aramboneParticipantRondo drove ’em all out of town, starting with Ray.
If Rondo was a good teammate, and Doc a better coach, the Celtics would have been considered serious contenders next year.
They were 20-23 with Rondo last year, until his injury ended a 6 game losing streak with everybody healthy. Some pg.

Professor RozayParticipantI just don’t see him in a Celtics uniform for to much longer…if not a trade in the summer…he will definitely be moved during the season..

Status QuoParticipantAt the end of the day, I really can’t say anyone is to blame. Ainge pigeonholed himself by signing KG to a contract with one of the leagues only No-Trade clauses, narrowing the options Ainge could have to trade him away, but he had to in order to keep Garnett from retiring last season. As far as Ray Allen goes, he can blame Ainge because he was dangled so much in trade scenarios throught the 2011-12 season. I think by now, everyone on the Celtics team and organization knew what they were gonna get from Rondo, so putting the blame on him for running Doc or Ray out of town is a waste of time. Rondo wants to win, is ultra-opinionated and competitive, but you can go to war with him in the playoffs and feel comfortable.

Tune SquadParticipantThis is all on Ainge. There are a lot of ego’s in any locker room and Boston was no exception, but if Rondo was clearly the problem then all Ainge had to do was deal one player (Rondo) who would have brought enough in return to still compete with the other pieces.
**For those who will say that Pierce and Garnett were too old (both still playing on an All-Star level), and the Celtics window had closed, need only look to the finals this year when really an aging San Antonio was only a couple game 6 official calls away from beating the Heat. The year before they took Miami to 6.
Danny Ainge has orchestrated this whole thing, when the solution was much simpler. He’s wanted to rebuild for a while and kept threatening it. He found his excuse. I like Bill Simmons but he should have know better than to put this on Rivers. Danny Ainge was hated as player by many, and I think before all is said and done, he won’t be a popular GM either.
I also think the deal with New Jersey was silly since those picks will most likely be in the twenties. There was lots of time before the season to move Garnett, Pierce and Rivers for better pieces. Even the pick from the Clippers will likely not be very helpful. he could have dealt Rondo for much more and kept the Celtic pride alive.
I feel awful for Celtics fans.

capecodderParticipantI believe the 2016 and 2018 picks could be very valuable…as a matter of fact, if the Celtics have the option of switching 2017 picks, that too could be valuable
My theory is…look at the ages of Pierce, Garnett, Terry and Johnson and the cap issues the Nets have….their window is one to two years tops…then they’re in trouble
PS…I hope they can beat the Heat….just wishful thinking

aramboneParticipantI think the Nets are in trouble This year. If any of these guys gets even a minor injury they won’t be able to sit out and rest it, but they’ll be seriously compromised by limping through it. These guys could easily limp into the playoffs as a 6-8 seed.
And KG hates Andray Blatche. He lobbied against Boston signing him last year. I dont think Blatche will re-sign with the nets this summer.
In an ideal situation, Pierce would play 26 mpg and KG 23 mpg. But with no depth, these guys might be regretting not retiring by March.
