MagikKnickParticipanthttp://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue….
Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner

HotSnotParticipantWow… If that letter is legit, it is COMPLETELY unprofessional and ignorant on so many levels. Lebron does not owe the Cavs or city Clev. ANYTHING. He is his own man, with his own dreams and ambitions. This reminds me of a girl your just not interested in dating… she’s buying you stuff, letting you borrow her car and telling you how much she worships the ground you walk on and the whole time your thinking… I like your friend Julie way better. Sorry. Your great and everything but you can’t beat what Julie has to offer. Please don’t stalk me or hunt me down…princess.
If the ping pong balls dropped differently seven years ago this conversation never takes place. If Clev handled the Boozer fiasco and multitude of bad signings, poor trades and draft picks over the last seven years Lebron would still be with you guys. Ownership and management is just not up to snuff. There was SEVEN years to build a real long lasting team around Lebron but season after season was patch work signings.
Gilbett could have taken the high ground and come out smelling pretty on the other side of all this… but after reading this letter I feel like he is such a child. Its truely pathetic. Go cry to your mommy Gilbert. boo hoo!

omphalosParticipantwow, if this is legit I’m impressed at the passion this guy is showing. I doubt they’ll win before the Heat, but I can see them winning one soon with this sort or rage. I’m very disappointed that LeBron copped out and went to Miami. This decision will tarnish the decision of LeBron. James is the reason Cleveland weren’t going to win a championship, because they had to be in win-now mode every season and couldn’t build anything legit. Can’t wait to see the first Heat vs Cavs game next season… if I had a LeBron jersey I’d burn it for what he has just done to the League. Any and all semblance of Parity is gone. I hope the Thunder rise up and take the championship from them sooner rather than later.

butidonthavemoneyOh come on…
He’s obviously going through a lot.
I’m sure he has had a little too much to drink and tomorrow when he sobers up, he will send out a retraction admitting that Cleveland will never, ever, ever win a championship.
Let the dude vent.

NashyMingParticipantCan Dan Gibert deliver on this though?
With Mo Williams? Antawn Jamison? Anderson Varejao?
They actually think they can win a championship before LBJ, Wade, and Bosh in Miami?
It’s great that the owner is getting passionate and personal on this, but he is a little over the motion and delusional about the situation.
It’s a sad day for Cleveland and a crazy day for the NBA.
Now, if only BC can complete a deal to get Beasley, TOR pick, 2 MIA 1st out of the Bosh S&T, I don’t freaking care who plays in Miami.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantMinnesota has Beasley.
🙂

NarcParticipantFirst off if he thinks that the Cavs will win a title, befote LeBron, D-wade, and Bosh….he must be smoking that good kush. That letter shows the amount of bitterness not just towards LeBron leaving, but the revenue that he’s taking with him. We all know that the franchise was in the attendance gutter before James got there, and unfortunately for Cleveland that’s where they may end up again. I feel so sorry for that city, because they had everything riding on this home grown talent. Its a constant reminder that they got the short end of the stick once again.

marcusfizer21ParticipantA letter driven with intense emotion… They shoudl have known that LBJ would go somewhere… Why else would he make an official announcement live on ESPN if he only decided to stay home in Cleveland? It would be a total waste of our time… But Dan Gilbert is not thinking clearly… He needs to drink a lot of tequila to go to sleep tonight..

JHong621ParticipantI think this is one of those letters where you crumple it up and throw it out after you write it, to make yourself feel better. I give him A for effort, but it is likely this letter will get him fired.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:29pm #349750

MagikKnickParticipantlol, Owners can get fired?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:30pm #349753

butidonthavemoneyOnly by Jesus or the Hypnotoad.
All glory to the Hypnotoad…

JHong621ParticipantWhen I said fired, I meant assassinated by Lebrons newly hired goons.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIf he ever called him the King? Bet he did on more than one occasion. This letter is so ridiculous, I truly hope it is fake. If it isn’t, this guy needs to check his ego. How have his guarantees worked out so far? Oh, right….
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 7:09pm #349827

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantHow many bodyguards does Lebron need when he steps into the state of Ohio? I can’t see him living there in the off season.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 7:18pm #349852

llperezi dont mind some of his statements adn him throwing a few insults. But he went over board for sure. Besides, what does he think cleavland is gonna do in the next few years? He should say, " i promise you that the lakers wont let the self appointed King win a title, becasue we sure the hell arent gonna stop him."
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 7:26pm #349862

IndianaBasketballParticipantDamn… He trashed LeBron. This whole situation has been VERY unprofessional all around. LeBron hurt a lot of feelings, which was bound to happen, but he could’ve went about this a different way.
Dan Gilbert is wrong for trashing LeBron like this though… Especially considered everything LeBron did for Cleveland. That organization was NOTHING before LeBron got there. His letter doesn’t calm anybody down… Just makes them have even more hate towards LeBron.

mrknowitall313Participantwhats funny is that it doesnt matter how he did it the fans would have still felt betrayed n this asshole gilbert would still b an asshole.
