The Cavaliers once thought that they would be able to sign another major free agent in addition to LeBron James next summer, but that is no longer the case.

The NBA’s salary cap will be $58 million for the 2009-10 season, and the league office has warned teams that the cap could drop to as much as $8 million next year.

Cleveland signed Anderson Varejao, Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker this summer, effectively using up their cap space.

Cleveland should’ve spent their money on better free agents. This could’ve persuaded LeBron to stick around. IMO Varejao, Moon, & Parker are all below average players at their positions. Cleveland will come up short once again & the King will realize that the future does not look good for him in Cleveland. Knicks, Nets, Miami & even the Clippers are going to look like much more attractive places than Cleveland.

It’s crazy that no one wants to play in Cleveland. You have an unselfish superstar who has carried this team by himself, but no one wants to come there to be his sidekick. If he leaves, that leaves them with a lineup of Mo Williams, Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, Varejo and Shaq. That team would be horrible. Shaq would be out of there as soon as Lebron bolted. I’m not a Cavs fan, but I always wanted to see him end his career there. Management has just always made a bunch of lousy decisions that have left them with no talent and no cap room. The team was built wrong…

I think if he really wants to go somewhere after next season, he should think about somewhere like Portland. I don’t ever see that happening, but he would be a perfect fit for either team especially Portland who needs a small forward. Too bad they didn’t draft that one guy while they had a chance…I think his name was Kevin Durant.

if I were the Cavs Gm, I’d trade him and big Z to Atlanta for Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, Maurice Evans and a 1st rounder. No way I’d let him walk for free. Joe Johnson could leave too, but I trust him resigning much mor than LeBron.

lbj is not going to be traded. besides, lbj probably will not leave cleveland, even if he does not win a title in 2010. he is basically tied to the city of cleveland and they will pay him the most money.

Trade LBJ? That would be the complete end of the franchise. Basketball wise, it would be a smart move to get something for him, but that’s assuming he doesn’t decide to stay. How do you think the fans in Cleveland would react to a trade? Even better if he got traded and says ” I was really looking forward to signing a longterm extension in Cleveland at the end of the season.” No matter if it is true or not, they cannot take the chance. There are very few guys you do not trade under any circumstance and the hometown hero, future hall of famer, in his early-mid 20s is not one of them.

They signed Moon and Parker for 3 mil a year…. So that’s 6 mil. BUT they did sign Varejao for 8.3 mil a year (I see the difficulty). He fail to realize that Shaq 20+ million dollar contract is coming off the books AND Big Z 12 million contract is gone too…

They can sign a FA to a MAX deal and sign LBJ back… They can sign LBJ last but they can’t go over the salary cap too much… Its a certain percentage you are allowed to do that to find your way around the system. But that’s not true. They are only 15 mil over the salary cap now…

You guys have to remember players from 7-9 years service can only sign starting off at 16.2 mil a year MAX… So the potential is there…

Most of the Cavs team outside of Parker and Lebron is overrated. After next year Shaq will leave, they have no real young talented players that would make Lebron want to stay. If he really wants to stay in Cleveland so bad he’ll sign an extension now.
