deshawynkeys91ParticipantCan you win in the NBA with a line up dominanted by Euro players?? and in light of the recent article about the indiana pacers being “Too White” can you win with a White american dominated lineup?? i ask this b/c i follow the Raptors and with the upcoming signing of h. turkoglu the raptors will start a lineup with three European players(a. bargnani, j. calderon and h. turkoglu). is there any other team in the league that starts three europeans?
personally i dont think this team will be able to do more than make the playoffs and again be bounced in the first round b/c of the defensive problems they will come across throught the year

Meditated StatesParticipantYes you can win games. Championships no. Not to stereotype but I have to, they would not play good enough D. A lot of the best foreign players are from Argentina and that is in south america so I say no titles.

rlabubbaParticipantThe Spurs won in 2007 starting T. Parker, M. Ginobili and F. Oberto. You can win with Europeans but you have to have the right ones (just like any other player).

joe2BAParticipantWhat a ethnocentric question! Wouldn’t a lineup of Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, Hedo Turkaglu, Mickael Pietrus, and Tony Parker (All euro borned and raised) win a ton of games and compete for a championship???? Dirk Nowitzki was the best player on a championship level team (the Mavs were one possession away from a championship), Parker has three rings and a finals MVP, and without Pau the Lakers would have not won a championship.
Could that lineup be constructed in the NBA today? NO. But it answered your question! The question shouldn’t be “can you win in the NBA with a line up dominated by Euro Players” The question should be “Is the European talent pool deep enough for a current team to build around them”. The problem isn’t that Europeans aren’t good enough, but is there enough depth in talent.

knicksfreakParticipantThe Knicks will probably start Darko with the possibility of Gallinari moving to the starting lineup. There is still always that possibility of Rubio…..

deshawynkeys91Participantrlabubba u may want to take a look at ur world map…. m. ginobili is from Argentina in south america and only t. parker was a key contributor on that spurs team f. oberto was on the bench in alot of key game situations
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 12:31pm #178513

Meditated StatesParticipantThat is in South America only Tony Parker is european out of those three.

deshawynkeys91Participantthanks knickfreak… i feel alot better b/c aleast the raptors lineup is not as bad as the knicks. imagine having darko in the starting lineup of any team that is enough to give up on a season… no wonder all knick fans can do is talk about the 2010 free agency that will end up seeing them land.. NO not Lebron… NO not Wade and NO not Bosh but maybe over pay for amare or j johnson. Now that’s not much to look forward to

gatorheelsParticipantdeshwynkeys91- I hate to tell you but after this season the Knicks are going to be better than the Raptors…you can take that all the way to the bank.
Calderon, Hedo, Bargnani, DeRozan….thats it…that is a fringe playoff team that will never contend for a title

BasketballGuru24ParticipantIf The Europeans Are As Good As any Playe, then i don’t think its a problem of winning a championship………you can’t forget that over 75% of players are North american…….so what are the chances of seeing a starting line-up clustered with european playerss……highly unlikely !! but possible
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 12:45pm #178521

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantLol you thank knickfreak and then you bash his favorite team. Anyway If you mean a starting 5 with all Europeans then I don’t think so.

deshawynkeys91ParticipantGatorheels u needed to understand something..
1. If the Raptors have a sucessfully season (playoffs and a good first round showing) i’m willing to bet that c. bosh resigns with the raptors.
IF NOT
2. the one thing ppl / fans have learned from this off season is that the man in charge of the raptors is not the same RETARDED that traded v. carter for nothing…. b. colangelo has a good head on his shoulders and will trade bosh and get back something respectable in return
so to respond to your comment about the knicks having a better lineup than the raptors that is HIGHLY UNLIKELY atleast for the next 2 -3 yrs unless they sign Lebron and another star level player
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:02pm #178541
deshawynkeys91Participantjoe2BA… come on your better than that.. lets not live in fantasy world b/c a lineup of Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, Hedo Turkaglu, Mickael Pietrus, and Tony Parker would not beat a lineup of Lebron , Kobe , Anthony , Howard and Duncan.. and i know u said the lineup couldnt be constructed so why bring it up.
And one other thing i noticed with all the players you mentioned they are all complimentry players and yes i know parker has a nba finals m.v.p to his name but no one would ever say he is the most important player to that spurs team and in regards to Dirk well he will never win a title or have another shot at one unless he becomes the secondary option on a team b/c as long as he is the go to guy the mavericks are doomed to one and dones.

gatorheelsParticipantdeshawynkeys91- Nope I don’t understand. Bosh might stay but I doubt it. Also the Knicks are going to get some real good free agents. Do you not understand that? New York is going to have a ton of money to spend even with the economy being so bad. The Knicks already have quite a bit of young talent. I don’t know how everybody else feel but I really think New York will be better than the Raptors after this season. I don’t hate the Raptors by the way..just giving my opinion.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:29pm #178566
deshawynkeys91ParticipantWhen will ppl ever learn… gatorheels just b/c a team has “a ton of money” (which in reality is not going to be a ton as the cap decreases) doesnt mean they will be able to sign the impact players that will be available in free agency next year.. how many yrs have when seen the same thing in free agency –> the players signs back with his original team b/c of wait for it……….. MORE MONEY
lets look at this from a realistic point of view…. lets take one of the top players from next years free agency group lets say ummm Lebron. why would he want to go to new york over saying with the cavs the answer NO reason and that make more money in new york is not enough to get lebron on the move… sorry
the only thing i see happening for the knicks next off season is missing on a number of the impact free agents and then using that ” TON OF MONEY” they have and wasting it on players like Dirk (who sorry is not a big time player in terms of important wins and coming to the end of a good career) or Boozer (big mistake).
and as for new york have young talent??? who exactly are you talking about??? w. chandler = m. barnes… who else Gallinari and 6’9 wing that can’t guard his position… who else i hope ur not going to mention j. hill who at best is going to be a “energy” type player off the bench for years to come ala jerome “junk yard dog” williams
i hope u now know why i dont understand why u dont OVERSTANDED!!

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantThis guy is smart, he barely post and he has a lot of points.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:35pm #178574

gatorheelsParticipantChandler, Gallinair, Hill, Douglas, Milicic is a pretty good supporting cast. Not to mention the Knicks may still have David Lee &or Nate Robinson. Add two good free agents to that lineup and the Knicks are better than the Raptors..sorry it is a fact. There are a lot of good free agents in 2010..not just LeBron, Wade, & Bosh. New York is a much more attractive market for big names to go to when compared to Toronto. Come on lets be real here and not biased please.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:37pm #178575

gatorheelsParticipantIt all depends on Bosh..u better keep your fingers crossed. If Bosh leaves the Raptors aren’t going to be any good..time to face reality.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:51pm #178582

Meditated StatesParticipantI repeat they can’t lose Bosh. They have to scrap their team if they lose Bosh.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 1:54pm #178583
deshawynkeys91Participantinteresting… Gatorheel and i’m not biased just calling it like i see it
Chandler, Gallinair, Hill, Douglas, Milicic is the young talent u speak of… first 3 of the players u listed have not played more than a handed full of games combined in the nba (gallinari, hill and douglas) so once again your going on simply believing that these players will work out as suppose to knowing… ok! and who is being biased??
secondly, i can’t believe that anyone that knows anything about basketball would dare mention d. milicic as a part of any kind of “GOOD” supporting case i think i would have taken your point alit more serious if u lefted him out. Chandler i’ll give a pass b/c he actually had a decent season on a team that played less defensive than the raptors and thats hard to imagine!!
lastly, in regards to “NEW YORK NEW YORK BIG CITY OF DREAMS.. BUT EVERYTHING IN NEW YORK AIN’T ALWAYS WHAT IS SEEMS” ……… the last time i checked a team that hasn’t maded the playoffs in how many years??? has little to no talent! When did that become a ATTRACTIVE MARKET?? the only players new york is going to attract is guys who are looking to get paid and not about winning..
so next yr around this time when the knicks are setting up press conference to show case there BIG free agent signings of c. boozer and a. iverson i hope u’ll understand what i was trying to tell u

deshawynkeys91Participantwhich young core would u rather have??
Raptors
c. bosh
a. bargnani
d. deRozan
j. calderonNew York
d. lee
w. chandler
d. gallinari
d. millicic (hahaha!)0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 2:30pm #178635

JNixonParticipantNo you cant. Not if those Euro players dominate your roster, no you cant.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 2:31pm #178637
NYKnicksuperFanParticipantgo fall off a zamboni or a snow machine or somethin then when u wake up in 5 years i will gladly tell u that the knicks have 3 rings with LeBron and Bosh and that the Euro i mean toronto Raptors have been bottom feeders for half a decade
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 2:34pm #178644

gatorheelsParticipantWow…
New York is still an attractive market.
The which young core would you rather have isn’t a fair question because you are talking about right now & I am talking about after this season. Don’t try to turn things around. Once the Knicks add a couple free agents next year you will be eating your words…u sound pretty dumb right now. You also sound like a true bigtime New York HATER.

Stanford hoopsParticipantlol..the knicks wont have a title in 2 or three years..stop smoking that stuff…..knicksfreak…what makes u think sorry a$$ darko is gonna start..even though it is the sorry knicks they do have david lee and al harrington who are both gonna start..unless u feel hes gonna start at center?..thats possible since the only other option is oliver miller..oh i mean eddy curry…..and its been proven that dantonis teams arent built to win titles because he doesnt have them play defense..just run and gun..

Michael.S.ParticipantThis is another stupid forum topic. period
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/08/2009 - 6:11pm #178914

knicksfreakParticipantDarko starting depends on Lee. Deshawn is just mad because we have a better Italian than he does. Bargnani sucks. Mark my words, Darko will have as good/ if not better season than Andrea. Have fun with your future of Calderon and Hedo after Bosh leaves and Derozan flops. I still cant believe you’re rubbing Bargnani in my face. HAHA. He’ a bust that had a so-so season last year. Poor man’s Okur.

joe2BAParticipantWill a European player become the “Best player on a Championship Team”
A lot of you seem to have short memories… Dirk Nowitzki was sooooo close. You can say one possession away a few years ago against the Heat. If Terry and Howard step it up, they could be very good with Gortat and Marion
Sure Parker has the rings and is a phenomenal player, but Duncan was always the best player on that team
Pau, second best player on the Lakers chamionship team
Sabonis, Kukoc, Petrovic, ext…. All very good players, but there has NEVER BEEN A EUROPEAN WIN THE TITLE AS THE BEST ON HIS TEAM
I will give you that.
Will it happen, damn right, almost happened a few years ago. Game is spreading way to fast and it is bound to happen. Just really tired of the label foreign players get for being week and soft. NOT TODAYS PLAYERS. Manu Ginolbli, Tony Parker, Nocionni, Nene, Pachulia, and Scola are some of the toughest players in the game. For every weak NBA foreign player I can name about ten american softies, who despite having the talent, don’t even have the mental toughness to make it to league. Just because a player is born in America does not mean he is a tougher player.
Stop Hating.
