BKKnicksfanParticipantNote: I know I’m going to get a BOATLOAD of negatives, but bare with me. I promise I’ll make sense with my thinking. Again, I don’t expect my points to go up, but I just want opinions.
The Knicks need to make a coaching change. Sounds simple? Not really. I think the Knicks need to find a opposite coach of what they have now. A conservative coach who can actually use defensive players. As a Knicks fan, D’Antoni has got to go. He blew up the roster, only to add 2 top 15 ( I’m backing off the Melo is a top 10 player stuff) players and still suffer. He cannot coach defense and New York is a gritty city. When NY was winning divison titles, it was DEFENSE. My mom still talks about the Pat Riley Knicks and how the big thing said was "D was the Key".
The question is who can the Knicks hire? Bill Simmons was talking about Phil Jackson, but I think the Lakers had a couple more titles there. I think he retires at the most. The guy I think the Knicks should go after is Doc Rivers. Unlike LA, Boston’s window is getting locked with Miami and Chicago around. Not to mention, Rivers played there, so there’s history there as well. The Knicks have unlimited pockets, with more coming on the way, since the stadium is getting upgraded and 50% ticket increase ( My guess? The 50 percent decreases because people aren’t happy with this team) The Knicks can throw Doc a godfather deal. Do I think he’s coming to coach the Knicks next season? No, not really. Do I think the Knicks can land him if they wanted him? Yes because we do need to mention, they have 4-5 pieces on this team needed to win. Plus if they decided to bring back Billups, it would help him because he won’t need to run.
Donnie Walsh has flirted with leaving New York. While Allen Houston is being groomed as a apprentice, I don’t think he’s ready yet. Let him age in the front office a little bit. What’s going on with Kevin Pritchard? People kill Pritchard for the Oden-Durant thing but did see the list of moves he did make successfully? People forget he got Roy, Aldridge, Fernandez, Bayless as young prospects. When the Knicks were god awful, they were always over the Lux tax, so like Portland, this wouldn’t be a problem to him.
My overall question: DO you think the Knicks can land a good GM and good coach if the job opens up?
