So as any fan of the NBA knows the 76ers have a crowded front court. Most notably they have three centers that were picked in the lottery in consecutive drafts Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, and Jahlil Okafor. Each center has question marks. Will Nerlens even be good on offense? Will Okafor ever be a good defender? Will Embiid every stay healthy enough to have an NBA career?

The 76ers seem confident that Embiid will be healthy as the team is looking at dealing Noel or Okafor. The problem with that is there really isn’t a team in dire need of a center. The teams with more questionable players at center, like Charlotte, don’t really have the young talent the 76ers are likely to be searching for. It seems unlikely that the 76ers will get back what they deem as fair value for Noel or Okafor. Bryan Colangelo has stated he isn’t comfortable starting the year with all three centers, but he wouldn’t make a bad deal just to clear up the log jam. I wonder if Colangelo is reconsidering what his bigs are worth at this point or if he’ll stick to his guns and possibly enter the season with all three centers. Perhaps the 76ers will reconsider playing two centers at once in order to maintain or increase their centers value.

Do the 76ers trade a center prior to training camp or do they keep them all at this point?

At this point I think it would be foolish for them to trade one of them.. Embiid is still a huge unknown with his injuries so say they trade Okafor then Embiid doesn’t even make it through a year with his leg injuries then what do you potentially have? Noel he maybe doesn’t progress and Saric who’s young and unproven.. Obviously there’s a lot of issues with fit and a lack of guard talent but if I’m philly I’m seeing which combinations work at the 4/5. They haven’t rushed this whole process after all these years no need to now unless some team decides to go all in for okafor and you got a can’t miss prospect lined up to replace him

Block….. But I still would not be in a hurry to trade either…… Actually I would keep Okafor altogether…..

But playing w/ Ben Simmons, Saric & Actual NBA guards will pump up the value of both Noel & Okafor to fair market value

Trades are all about leverage…. Wait until the trade deadline & when a playoff team needs a Center see what they offer….

But there is no rush — the 76ers are Loaded w/ 1st round picks w/ 2 in Each of the next 3 Drafts including 2 – top 10 picks in the Crazy Deep 2017 Draft – imagine adding Jayson Tatum & DeAaron Fox to this core…. of Simmons, Embiid & Okafor — it’s gonna look like a Nike All Star team

From what Colangelo is saying, it seems like a sure thing that they are trading one of them at some point. It seems to risky to bank on Joel Embid. The sixers aren’t winning the thing next year, why not see how that front court looks before you assume it won’t. And wait around for someone that thinks they are a player away from really competing by the trade deadline and pull the trigger if a good deal comes along.

January. And people forget that Okafor Only played about 10 – 15 games w/ Ish Smith.

Okafor played only 55 games last season B4 he got a Knee. A Center is dependant upon the Quality of his PG & Okafor’s PG’s w/ the Sixers for 40+ games were Isaiah Canaan, TJ McConnel & Phil Pressy — that is straight Ass

Golden State had the Death Line up well in 2015/16′ the Sixers had the #ASS Line up

I’m seeing picks on Twitter of Okafor working out & Lifting w/ Embiid & Simmons & other Teammates….. They have a Veteran presence & I’m reading reports that Okafor "Wants to Stay in Phila,  has lost 20 lbs & he is foaming at the mouth to get on the court w/ Simmons & Embiid to show what he can really do & this kid can do So much More than Only score w/ his back to the Basket. He Idolized Tim Duncan so Offensively he can do A Lot of the Skill sDuncan could do like Face up, Bank Shot, hit the open J, shoot Over or attack Bigs & Post up smaller opponents. This kid is Developing still

I guess to sum it up how can a Center / PF’s Value go Down when he is going to be playing w/ Ben Simmons at PG instead of TJ McConnel or Isaiah Canaan??? By the Trade deadline his Value will Climb & if someone Blows them away w/ an Offer — maybe pull the Trigger — we’ll see what happens

Their trade value only goes down from here. There will be less playing time, therefore lower production, therefore diminished value. They should have made a trade before they announced they were going to. Now they need to get the best value they can before the season begins. Then they need to stop telegraphing their moves.

They shouldn’t trade ANY of those 3, unless they can’t play together.

You can play each big 32 minutes a night, if you use two of those 3 on the floor at the same time.

I DOUBT they can get a top notch wing player back in a trade since those are valued more highly right now.

Keep the 3 bigs, keep Saric for now, and I would actually try to use four of their big five (headlined by Ben Simmons) at the same time as much as possible.

Then get a guard who fits in with those guys.  Probably through the draft.

The league is turning to $hit and its not 1992 anymore so trade value is less these days for premium big men. The NBA is now like NBA jam, just a tonne of 3 pointers. Teams have done the maths 3 @ 33% = 99 points. 2 @ 45% = 90 points. Each year they just keep jacking up more and more threes.

You got small forwards playing the 4 spot and 2 guards playing SF. All teams want now are 3 point shooters.

Okafor is a premium post player yet a lot of kids on here bag him calling him a “throw back” or “old school”. I love watching the skill of post players – McHale, Olajuwon etc. No wonder I watch more games from the 80’s and 90’s than todays current games

Its funny though, big men still get paid but not as valued – just look at the two teams in the Finals last year didn’t have star centres

The problem with figuring out value in dealing Noel is that he is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and everyone saw the deals given to Biyombo, Mozgov, Ezeli, Aldrich, and Plumlee 1 (i.e. backup big men who have not accomplished much). He will be a restricted free agent next summer, but how could Philadelphia possibly match an offer if Embiid (who will be a restricted free agent the following summer) and Okafor are still on the roster? For a team that likes him, it becomes a question as to whether they are better off waiting and saving the asset. If he is ultimately dealt, I would not imagine it to be for anyone the other team is heartbroken to see go.

With Embiid, it is hard to imagine there would be a team willing to give up anyone or anything that Philadelphia would accept. He hasn’t played in two and a half years. What GM would risk their job on a 7-footer with foot problems who has been out for that long? It is one thing for Philadelphia to continue betting on him, because there is no downside to seeing him through for the next two years. The price has already been paid. They can state that they are confident that he is, and will be, healthy, but his health isn’t hanging over the head of the new front office. If it goes bad, they call it an inherited mistake. That said, how could another GM possibly explain investing whatever it would take to get him should it go bad?

Okafor would be the guy who would seemingly get them the most in a trade where two teams would agree, but he is also the safest center of the three. If Embiid gets hurt again, and they trade Okafor, then they are over a barrel next summer with Noel. With Okafor, they still have three years on his rookie deal. If Embiid goes down, the long-term impact is not as great.
