IndianaBasketballParticipantIn an argument about who’s better between Rondo and Rose the other day, a couple of NBADRAFT.net users suggested that it’s arguable that Rondo is a better scorer than Rose and teams play under the screen against Rose just as much as they do against Rondo.
I disagree with both of those statements. Teams can no longer afford to play Rose under the screen as the following video shows.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAs you can see… His jumper is much improved… Better mechanics and more arch. More confidence. Teams don’t play him under the screen as much as they do Rondo… They can’t afford to. He’s now making them pay.

DanEboyParticipantThey way I look at it is if Rose continues to improve his jumper, he will be a defenders nightmare. You couldn’t play him too close because he can just blow by you, but if you play too far off he will just pull up on you. That is why explosiveness is a skill, it keeps defenses honest.
Not sure if I answered your question though.

JNixonParticipantTeams would much rather give him a jump shot than let him drive the lane. If I was a coach, yes, I’d dive the screens on Rose. This is one game, he’s not a consistent shooter at all yet, even though he has improved in this area.

quinceyhodgesyeah teams can continue to play under screens. he will hit them sometimes but he isnt ray allen or the dwill or chris paul. id rather take my chances with his jumper then him driving. especially since his 2point jumper percentage isnt much different then last year

Dabba23ParticipantThe only people questioning Rose’s jumper are those who don’t watch him on a regular basis. He had his jumper basically nailed down since the midway point of his rookie season, and has only improved it since then.

quinceyhodgeshes jumper is ok. not great but not bad either. but his drive game is more deadly. you can look at his 2point shooting percentage to know how good his jumper is if you havnt caught his games

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantRose has always been a decent mid-range shooter; it’s his range that’s been the biggest problem. It was a very smart decision on his part to develop a mid-range jumper instead of a three-pointer. I think that within the next two years, Rose will be a pick-your-poison type of guy who gets 20+ no matter what, if he isn’t that already.
