Still will be a lot of different line-ups and minutes will be chopped up in a number of spots. Really believe Tyler Ulis will get a lot of time with both Harrison twins on the wing. Dakari Johnson and Trey Lyles will also get a lot of minutes, with Devin Booker providing a floor stretcher on the wing. I believe Duke will play Tyus and Quinn Cook together a lot, though could honestly see Quinn coming off of the bench and starting Justise Winslow. Or swapping Winslow and Sulaimon. Actually believe that Winslow may indeed start and as Jeff Goodman said, maybe swapping Cook and Sulaimon at SG depedning on the match-up.

So, believe those are probably the starting line-ups, though could see some guys coming off of the bench getting almost as many minutes as some of the starters. Winslow and Sulaimon should play close to the same amount, believe Tyus will probably average more mpg than Cook. In Kentucky’s case, their front court is so damn deep, think they probably play with a number of different line-ups. In close games, could see them having Ulis, Harrison’s, Poythress/Lyles and Towns for shooting purposes. Cauley-Stein is their best overall defensive big, Johnson is their back-to-the basket guy. Marcus Lee is super talented and athletic as well, just can’t seeing him beating out the other five guys in the front court (since Poythress really is a PF).

What will be interesting is the minute split among these teams top 8. Last year, Kentucky had Julius Randle, James Young and both Harrison’s playing over 30 minutes per game. Both Harrison’s should stay around there, though might expect them to play less now that they have actual depth at guard with Ulis and Booker. So, lets look at maybe a top 9 breakdown of minutes:

    Duke

    G Tyus Jones: 31 mpg

    G Quinn Cook: 27

    F Justise Winslow: 23

    F Amile Jefferson: 25

    C Jahlil Okafor: 29

    6th: Rasheed Sulaimon: 22

    7th: Grayson Allen: 12

    8th: Marshall Plumlee: 10

    9th: Matt Jones: 8

    Kentucky

    G Andrew Harrison: 30

    G Aaron Harrison: 30

    F Alex Poythress: 23

    F Karl Towns: 23

    C Willie Cauley-Stein: 22

    6th: Tyler Ulis: 20

    7th: Dakari Johnson: 18

    8th: Trey Lyles: 14

    9th: Devin Booker: 9

Going to be tough to split minutes with these guys, though maybe gives some idea of the breakdown. Think that foul trouble ends up being a bit of an issue for Kentucky’s starting bigs at times. I know that it looks like the Harrison’s and Ulis take all of the guard minutes, though I believe Aaron Harrison plays at the three when Poythress first heads to the bench.

Also know this leaves out possible contributors in Semi Ojeleye at Duke (they may need a big forward at times, though have a feeling they may play some small ball with Okafor/Plumlee in the middle) and Marcus Lee at Kentucky (Just do not know how he beats out the other guys. He is talented, but Johnson is much stronger and more polished near the basket, Lyles is just way ahead of him in terms of skill set and court awareness). Chances are I do not have the exact minute breakdown, just wanted to give an idea and think this might give more insight into how they will work as teams as opposed to just listing who plays at the beginning of each half. The thing that makes these two teams (and Arizona/Wisconsin) so intriguing is their depth.

Cal said yesterday (or the day before) that he is going with the same platoon system that was used during the bahamas trip with the exception being one sub for each group.  10 out of the 12 will get around 18-20 min if they stick to the platoon system like they did on that bahamas trip, should be very interesting and could be very problematic for every team they play

    1) for Alex Poythress to play only SF and for Trey Lyles to do the same.
2)If because of foul trouble(@ C or PF) Trey could get a few minutes at PF
    3) Karl Anthony Townes will be a PF unless foul trouble for DJ and WCS.
    4) The Twins will play the same positions as last yr, because he trust Willis to play either F and Hawkins at both G spots.
5)Starters/bench will be determined by practice, example Lyles could take Poy’s staring spot or WCS take Dakari’s.

Cal has 2 6 man teams/lineups right now.
