Never seen him play, he averaged 3.9 ppg and 3.8 rpg in his freshman season at Duke and was injured his rookie season. Some people seem to be high on him on this site, I just wonder based on what and what’s his story ?

Also, how will he fit with Bagley?

    Thanks

He was the #1 player in his class since middle school, had an acl tear early in HS, came back and regained his #1 spot then tore his acl again (not sure if same knee) going into his senior year. His game kind of reminds me of a more athletic Jermaine O’Neal. He’s also apparently a good kid with his head screwed on straight. I’m pulling for him.

You’re obviously young. O’neal was a stringbean when he came into the league, and Giles is listed at 240lbs.

Young enough to actually still have his Topps rookie card, which lists him at 226 at age 18… harry giles still isnt that heavy at age 20.

Aren’t Giles and Bagley basically the same player. Giles a better on D, Bagley better on offense? Where does Skal fit in all this?

There’s definitely some similarities, though I’d say Giles is more offensively versatile and probably a better defender, where Bagley is the better scorer and pure athlete. That’s obviously provided both are healthy.

You know, I’ve never been high on Skal. Wrote on here that he’d struggle at Kentucky and got roasted for it. If Giles is healthy and he and Bagley can coexist it probably forces him to the end of the bench.

Word is Giles has been training the house down. Sacto finally appeared to have done a something right (by sitting him out). Lets see if he gets rotation minutes or gets DNPCDs with a handful of games playing 5mins or less in garbage time. They have drafted in bulk at these positions and are a bit overloaded now. They had to cut Papa and they now still need to play Randolph and find real time for at least 4 others at the  4/5- Skal, WCS, Giles and Bagley.

There should be a deal out there from a smart team, a deal that works for the Kings as well,  a savvy vet that they dont need for Frank Mason and Skal.  Orlando could use both guys and theyd fit with Bamba, perhaps for Fournier?

He has the passing feel combined with physical profile of a young Webber. The issue has always been the injuries. Who/what are they getting. Maybe a better comp injury wise _not skill wise) would be Antonio Mcdyess. Are you getting pre-injury athletic freak or post injuries spot minute, skilled solid team player. I would be cool with both, but IF he can regain some semblance of the athlete he was… Damn!

Players and management keep saying that they were surprised with his passing, and it’s a consensus among them even with the vets that he is the best passer in the team. I listened to a podcast with Doug Christie talking and he was saying the same thing, that people should watch out for him because Giles’ passing reminds he of C-Webb and Divac. Players and management never say these high things about WCS, Skal or Papagiannis (when he was there).

Couple that with his 1) tremendous athletic gifts (the Kings have been focused on his recovery throughout the season, using "advanced medical technology" to aid it, 2) He is gifted with the perfect NBA body 3) Willingness to learn while having Z-Bo and VC mentor him (I get a feeling vets love him also because his head is screwed right and always wants to learn) and 4) Elite ball-handling skills for a big.

I don’t know why, but I usually find myself rooting for underdog teams. My favorite team is the Suns because of Booker, but the following 2 teams are the Kings and Nets because I want to see them succeed so much. The way the Kings are talking about Giles gives me a hint they see him as a franchise player, and it really gets me excited.

And I love the C-Webb comp. He’s slated to play in summer league, and I can’t wait to watch him, Bagley & Fox play together.

Honestly don’t see the Webber comparison. Yeah Webber could handle it, face up and start the break, and he has an argument for best passing 4 of all time, but he did most of his damage on the block. He was also built like a tank.

Giles is way more finesse, outside oriented who’s more of a modern stretch big with a handle who can still get you buckets in the post.

Giles was a skinny 18 yo barely playing at Duke. When we see him next, after a year of NBA training and natural growth, expect to see him bigger and stronger. He’ll do some damage on the block as well as in the high post, and in pick-n-roll.

Giles was a man child in high school.  I thought he would be a stud at Duke, but his acl tears really sapped him of his explosiveness he showed in high school.  It was a shame, because he seemed like a really good kid and a hard-worker.  I don’t know if he’ll ever be the athlete he once was but with the strength and conditioning training he has access to in the NBA, I think he can bounce back and at least have a solid NBA career.

Ive been watching scouting for many years and don’t get sucked into the HS hype and mix tapes but Harry Giles sure impressed me.

I don’t know if those tapes were before or after his two injuries.  He was super athletic and dynamic around the basket prob where those Webber comps come from.

Witout his injuries he would of been a stud.  I really hope he can stay injury free.  Even if he is 80 or 90% of his former self that would still be good enough.

I really like him and hope he can stay injury free.  Harry Giles and the Kings need some good luck.
