I think he can still play, the problem he faced when he hit wall so quickly was that his style of play wasn’t condusive at all to aging. It depended so much on athleticism, and scoring.

He was my first favorite player in the league. If he has his life on the right track, he definately needs the money, I’d love to see him in a Gragic, or Bobby Jackson of the Kings way back when Role. He would be perfect leading the second unit of a team, bieng more of a shooter and passer than breakdown scorer. As a shooter alone, he is elite for a PG.

Can Iverson embrace the role of shooter? If by shooter you mean, shoot on every possession then yes, he can definitely do that.

But seriously, no. Iverson will not thrive as a playmaker of the second unit or as a spot-up shooter (his career shooting percentages are pretty low comparatively speaking). What he can be however, I think, is instant offense off the bench ala Flip Murray. I do think he is still capable to putting up 6-10 quick points in a game and I could see a team using him when their offense is stagnant or to rest starters at the start of a 4th quarter but still give the opposing defense something to worry about. I think if Iverson gets a chance it will be on a veteran team that could using a cheap scorer off the bench, but also has nothing to lose like San Antonio or LA. With either of those teams, he would be expected to fill his role as deemed by the coach and they would have no problem releasing him if he wasn’t able to do that. As a Spurs fan I actually wouldn’t mind seeing him signed for the minimum as he might provide a spark off the bench and I think the culture in SA is strong enough that it might convince AI to buy in, at least for a season or so.

If he goes to a winning team, he could definitely be a boost off the bench. Yes, he has digressed as a player and still might have the mentality of when he was elite, but that might have changed now. Like someone mentioned earlier, he might be 34 years old, but I’m sure he could be one of the best, if not best 34 yr old guard in the league at the league minimum. If he could embrace being a role player, I’m sure an elite team would be okay with picking him up.

He could help almost any team. The problem is the last time he came of the bench he started to cry and left the Grizzlies. What a great teammate!!! Instead of being the 6th man behind Conley and Mayo, showing them some tricks, he was whining.

trinajoe said it best. He has to realize that he isn’t a starter anymore. He also has to go to a contender. I could see him playing 20-25 minutes a game on a team like the Heat, who are in dire need of bench depth.

It’s in his head, and despite what statements his PR guy releases to the media, I still think he’d have a problem coming off the bench and playing a limitied role. He wouldn’t be the guy I’d want to embrace the role of a shooter off the bench because he needs tons of shots to score. He is a great scorer when given 20+ shots per game and 35+ minutes, but from a limited role I’d rather have a guy who shoots 45% from 2 and 3 and can get points without chucking as many shots as he can. Iverson is a career 42% 2 point shooter and 31% 3 point shooter, I’d take my chances on someone with a good head on his shoulders who could get the same amount of points in less shots.
