    Free-agent center Marcus Camby has reached agreement to sign with the Houston Rockets, a league source told Yahoo! Sports. Camby previously played with the Rockets during the 2011-12 season and has an offseason home there. He joins two other centers in Houston in Dwight Howard and Omer Asik. Camby yearned to sign with a title contender, leading him to the Rockets.

    The Toronto Raptors recently bought out Camby from the final two years of his contract after acquiring him in the Andrea Bargnani trade from the New York Knicks.

    Camby, 38, played sparingly for the Knicks last season, averaging a career-low 1.8 points. The Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls also had interest in signing him.

    *Not a surprise signing: Camby has a home there and is comfortable in the area. He also is looking to chase a title before retirement. This allows the Rockets to potentially use Asik as trade bait if he doesn’t find a suitable role (or is a malcontent) with Howard on the roster. I think Camby could still give a team a good 15 minutes a night at the 5 off the bench. Excited to watch the Rockets this year.*

    An Asik trade seems inevitable, that being said I don’t think Camby is going to be able to play many effective minutes as a backup. He didn’t show us anything in limited time last year. I almost rather have Gustavo Ayon at this point.

    An Asik trade seems inevitable, that being said I don’t think Camby is going to be able to play many effective minutes as a backup. He didn’t show us anything in limited time last year. I almost rather have Gustavo Ayon at this point.

      Greg Smith was the backup 5 the majority of the season, and they have TJones and Motie as well, so I dont think Camby will really be needed that much even if they do trade Asik. I do agree that this may be a sign that Asik hasnt backed off his trade demand, and I hope they can get sumthin good in return to help push them towards title contention.

    Damn, I thought he was going to Chicago. They need a quality veteran big and Camby would have been perfect.

    At this point in his career, Camby is a great locker room guy and a savvy veteran. I wouldn’t expect a huge role, maybe 8-10 spot duty minutes here and there, but he can still grab some boards, anchor a second unit defensively, and is an underrated passer in the high post.
