The Milwaukee Bucks traded Ersan Ilyasova to the Detroit Pistons for Caron Butler and Shawne Williams.

I like this trade for both teams especially the Pistons. Ilyasova can be a stretch 4 and is a good option especially if Monroe leaves in free agency which is being reported as very possible. Getting rid of Butler and Willias makes me think they are likely to draft a SF prospect such as Stanley Johnson or Mario Hezonja. Thoughts?

Yeah I think this is good insurance if Porzingis is gone by the time they pick, gives them an easy choice to make in Stanley Johnson, Hezonja or Winslow, whichever is left on the board.

Good move by Stan the Man.

I think it’s pretty clear Monroe is gone.

I am sure that Detroit is looking at Hezonja, Winslow, Johnson and Oubre now with their pick, they get a rely nice piece that fits next to Drummond and still lack that SF who can be a defensive pest and stretch the floor. I think Johnson will be the pick as Hezonja and Winslow will be gone and Oubre would be a reach.

I am really interested in where Monroe goes as well now, with the Knicks picking 4th I think he would be smart to have a good long look at New York. Anthony, Monroe and 4th pick (IMO Mudiay, Russell or Hezonja) there is a nice core to build on.

Detroit gets a stretch big to complement Drummond who will be a good pick-and-pop threat with Jackson and Jennings.  Milwaukee picks up a pair of players with nonguaranteed contracts that will be waived giving them more flexibility in the trade and FA market.  Plus, Ersan was a poor fit next to Giannis and Jabari.

(both in this thread and its evil identical twin) that THIS deal guarantees Detroit’s drafting of a SF?

I mean, wasn’t that always going to be the case? Regardless of this (relatively minor) trade being consumated? Seems like a moot point, actually, since Porzingis isn’t going to be available when the Pistons pick, anyways, so …

Oh, and if (by some miracle) Kristaps is still on the board, why would Detroit pass on him just because of a ham-and-egger like Ilyasova?

I think there is still the opportunity for detroit to sign Monroe. If they do they have a pretty nice big man group of monroe, drummond, and ilyasova. You can interchange all three. Their lineup would be quite deep at that point. Plus if they want to go small and have shooters on the floor the can make a small ball lineup of jennings, jackson, meeks, 1st round pick plus ersan. Lineup can be something like…

    PG: Jennings/Jackson
    SG: KCP/Meeks/Dinwindie
SF: 1st round pick (best SF that falls)/prince/tolliver
    PF: Monroe/Ersan
C: Drummond/2nd pick center (Dakari or Upshaw)
