The kid was having trouble with his test scores so why not make some cash in Europe. From what iv’e seen and heard I don’t think Lance will be an NBA baller. I’m sure plenty more will follow in Jennings footsteps and go the Euro route.

i live in brooklyn and have seen him play in person from the front row of a tiny gym. he will definitely be an all-star some day. what does it matter if the kid is a ball hog in high school? lance can get anywhere and do whatever he wants on the court, and has a complete game inside and out. if you don’t have any idea what you are talking about keep it to yourself.

I’m a fellow New Yorker, and the city tends to overhype it’s players too much, as you can see in Kenny Anderson, Rod Strickland, Felipe Lopez, Omar Cook, Kenny Satterfield, Curtis Kelly, Chris Taft, Julius Hodge, Russell Robinson, Curtis Stinson, Edgar Sosa, Lenny Cooke, Jamaal Tinsley, Ron Artest, Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair, and now Lance Stephenson. The only players that became big relevant names in the NBA, is Stephon Marbury, Ron Artest, Jamaal Tinsley, Kenny Anderson, and Rod Strickland. Other than that, the papers in New York and outside people, pumps these kids heads up too much. “Sir Lance a Lot”, was suppose to be the next LeBron James, to people in NYC, but to me, Lance Stephenson isn’t going to amount to nothing because he’s the biggest ball hog I seen in my life, I thought Kobe was once bad at that, this kid is ten times worst. Also he plays no defense at all, is known to have an attitude problem, lashes out on his teammates a lot, and he has a real thick body like Dominique Wilkins, so he lacks a lot of lateral quickness, which allows him to blow by people at the high school level with ease, but he’s going to have problems doing that, whether professionally or at the collegiate level, and he’s not athletic at all. The sad thing is, this kid got USC, Kansas, and St. Johns as the top schools he may go to, and you tell me he can’t even score high enough to qualify for St. Johns? That shows you how dedicated he is as a person. Future bust, mark my word down on it.

This is the type of guy that probably needs to go to school, but since he would probably just stick around 1 year, europe is a good option for him. I think he’ll find out like Jennings that its a lot harder than it looks to compete with those guys over there its a different brand of ball. But if he goes over there and has the right mind set he will be successful.

The guy has potential he gave OJ a run for his money some years back, the only thing I can add is he hasn’t seemed to progress as much as I thought he would have. He has gotten very big thats one thing I noticed, he had a good skill set the last time I saw him but I did notice that he was somewhat of a ballhog. That’s nothing new for him, though a lot of high school stars are hogs. But I did notice what Don said was true about some of the NY guys are overhyped not all but some. But NY is the mecca of basketball so I can kind of understand that to a degree. Lance can be as good as he wants to be from what i’ve seen if he just puts it all together. On the educational side it seemslike he just gave up on going to school to go over seas, wish he would think that through, not going as good as people thought for B.Jennings. But hopefully whatever decision he makes on his future he thinks it through and weighs his options and really thinks about going to school. I think he would be better served to go for at least a year or two. The draft will still be weak for the next couple of years so a year wouldn’t kill him.

i agree with don.. he will be a huge bust. shot is questionable, wow.. hes bigger than most hs players. what happens when he gets in the pros or even overseas. they are pg’s that are his size, and they hand check. hes not athletic, and not quick.. i like tyreke evans game better than his, and look how hes playing (even in a weak conf usa). whatever he does, i hope someone gives him some humble..

I’ve never understood the fascination with Stevenson. If he lived in Wyoming no one would’ve ever heard of him. He’s not that athletic, can’t shoot, has to dominate the ball to be even remotely effective and has to take a shit ton of shots to get his points. Did anyone see the McDonalds game? He looked like he didn’t belong out there. If he goes overseas he’ll be exposed and we’ll never see him again.

im pretty ure someone would have heard of him because he went to the all amercian camps and out played who ever was matc hed up against.. and he played bad in the first half but was in the running for mvp from his second half play..not that it matters cuz its a all star game..kobe didnt look that great it either…lances game has never been the question ..its his attitude..when he was trying out for that usa team going to europe the coachs said he was the bet player out there but his attitude kept him off the team

Bullsh!t. I have that game on tape and Kobe [along with Shaheen Halloway, Vasil Evtimov, Corey Benjamin and Lester Earl] were some of the more impressive players in that game. Stephenson relies on bullying other players with his size and handle to get his shot off. He can’t blow by anyone, can’t raise up over anyone, has to dominate the ball to be even remotely effective and gets too caught up in himself to help a team. The only reason he did decently in the second half is ’cause they stopped playing D. When the pressure was on he looked lost out there. The kid has no transferrable NBA skill, and if he goes to Europe he’ll get lost in the mix. Bank on it.

i dont have the game on tape i only watched it and although he may have impressed you he didnt inpress me..i have watched lance down in vegas in the big aau tournament and ill tell you this he did alot more then bull people over..he handles it nice he has a nice midrange and he knows how to score..he didnt bull grown men over at the rucker when he won mvp..and he didnt do it in vegas…there is ni oressure in mcdonalds game..its a all star game..but hey what do scouts and coaches and nba scouts who do this for a living and have experience who all say hes first round next year know. i guess you know more about the kid then the people who have seen most of his games and not just allstar games…ask maceo baston if lance can rise over anyone cuz he damn sure dunked on him at the ruckers as well as ron artests brother…the worst way to judge a player is through a all star game which he actually played well in

RAL GABLES, Fla. — The most dangerous combination on the floor for the East squad seemed like an unlikely pair, at least to the untrained eye at the McDonald’s All-American High School Boys Basketball Game.

    Derrick Favors

    Doug Benc/Getty Images

Derrick Favors took home McDonald’s All-American MVP honors Wednesday.

Lance Stephenson and Derrick Favors have developed chemistry while competing on the summer circuit the last four years. They hooked up at various summer elite camps and all-star games, taking mental notes on each other’s game.

Stephenson, a 6-foot-6 guard from Lincoln High in Brooklyn, N.Y., is known for his scoring, but Favors raved about his deft passing.

“He drives and dishes to the open man; he’s unselfish,” said Favors, a Georgia Tech-bound post player from South Atlanta (Atlanta, Ga.). “Lance is misunderstood sometimes; he’s very intense and wants to always win.”

It was a pair of Stephenson-to-Favors alley-oop dunks in the final 41.7 seconds which propelled the East over the West 113-110 on Wednesday at the University of Miami’s BankUnited Center.

The East leads the all-time series 18-14, having won five of the last seven contests.

Trailing by one point in the final minute, Stephenson beat a double-team and caught the West defense sloughing off the 6-foot-9 Favors along the baseline.

Favors netted 12 of his team-high 19 points (on 9-of-13 shooting) after the break and had eight rebounds. Stephenson stepped up his effort in the second half, finishing with 12 points, six assists and three steals.

Corey Benjamin made it as well. My point is the guy has no definite skill to make him appealing in the league. He’s ok at somethings and god awful at others. Scouts? Draftexpress has said on multiple occasions that if he’s not careful he’ll fade away. Look at Lenny Cooke. Cooke was twice the athlete Stephenson is and played better D and he’s nowhere to be found. If Stephenson goes to Cincy he’s obviously trying to get #’s and doesn’t care about winning. That’s fine, but his #’s won’t jump out at anyone and his shooting percentages will be awful. And, if he decides to go overseas that will be the end of his career. He doesn’t play the team game, has had everyone sucking his d!ck for his whole life and has a terrible attitude. None of that will fly in the Euroleague.

Also, this very site has him as the 47th pick next year, which blows a huge hole in your saying he’s a projected 1st rounder next year. Get your facts straight before you argue.

just because they have some one projected to be picked at a spot doesnt mean thats where they are going..if youve read these things and watched the draft youd know they are never right..and where was he good awful?..his skill is his ability to score..he overpowers peopel because on the highschool level he doesnt have to do anything else. but if youve watched him play against grown men then youd know he has skilsl to school other then just over powering people..you dont become the all time leading scorer in nyc history just because you over power people..you really think these top colleges like kansas wanted him because he has no skill?…nba scouts know what he can do.like i said before you cant judge a player just by watching his all star games..also kansas must not have cared about winning as well as maryland and the other good winning schools that tried to get him..you cant even argue about a guy you have rarely seen play..it makes no sense peoples you have no qualifying information to make judgement on the player

Where did I say he has no skill? I said he has no definite NBA skill. In case you’re wondering what that means, it’s that to make the NBA you have to standout in at least one quality in order to contribute. Stephenson doesn’t have a stand out quality. So you use the scout arguement, I prove you wrong and then you say who cares what scouts say? Pick a side and stay there. I have’t just watched his all-satr appearance. I’ve seen various summer games and one on ESPN. You can argue all you want but I’ve already proven you wrong once. We can do this all day.

Dude, are you retarded? I said NO DEFINITE SKILL. anyone who’s in the league has a standout skill, be it shooting, D, passing, etc….. You claim to have played overseas yet you can’t comprehend this simple fact?
