HitsterParticipantLooking at this year’s mock boards with Boston at number 5 and all the talk about other teams looking to sign major free agents in the summer. It occured to me that I have not heard much about Boston pulling a similar move that they did in 2007 when they were also 5th pick and ironically traded Jeff Green who is now on their roster for Ray Allen. They followed up by pulling a blockbuster trade to get KG and the Pierce, Allen, KG axis won the NBA title in 2008 as well as 5 divisional and two conference titles over the next 5 seasons.
With Boston having Rondo, Green and some young talent in place as well as having several draft picks due and cap space this summer. I was wondering if Danny Ainge might look to pull a trade built around the 5th pick to get Rondo a good running mate and then look to sign a top FA this summer.A lot might depend on what they would do with Avery Bradley but Boston could keep most if not all of their existing young talent, Crash Wallace could have a bigger role or be moved in 2015 etc.
Also they have picks due from the Nets, rights to a couple of stashers so Danny Ainge would have the firepower to pull a couple of deals. If they became win now, they would be able to add a couple of veterans to fill the bench easily.
I don’t know if Ainge’s mindset now is to rebuild via the draft and got Brad Stevens an excellent young NCAA coach in last year to replace Doc Rivers or if he might be tempted to try and pull another big 3 type team rebuild.
If Boston did get a top 3 lottery pick, I think they would draft and maybe look to add one good FA or even might put Rondo on the block as he expires in 2015 and could walk away. If they did trade Rondo this summer they would surely get some picks or talent back.
I won’t speculate who Boston might sign if they big another Big 3 rebuild but what do others think about the possibility of Danny Ainge rolling the dice that way again.

burgessfourParticipanta lot of young talent and more on the way. I see them sitting tight with what they have and getting a big fish in the summer of 2015. They do have a decision on Rondo. I doubt he leaves if it’s up to him, who doesn’t want to play for the Celtics (I’m a Sixers fan). I could see them getting a star in free agency next summer, and likely having the assets to get another via trade. It wouldn’t surprise if their next core group includes Rondo & Love.
