Kinguy11ParticipantYahoo Sports reported that Diaw has resigned with the Spurs for 3 years and $22.5 million.
When I first saw the headline I thought the Spurs were overpaying, but apparently the third year is only partially guaranteed, which could make the contract a valuable trade asset a couple of years down the line. Despite that, Diaw must have a savy agent or lot of demand around the league to command a close $8 million a year salary.
This does, however, limit the Spurs ability to chase Pau Gasol. They’ll probably try to lue him over with their mid-level exeption and promises of another championship, although I personally think that Pau will sign elsewhere for money as a result of this deal.
What do you guys think of the signing? Did the Spurs overpay or have they retained a valuable piece in their championship formula?

OhCanada-ParticipantBig part of this years championship run. No surprise that San Antonio makes another great move here. Kyle Anderson has so many great tutors around him that kids got next up in San Antonio.

DondiJohnParticipantRemember our reactions when Tiago and Manu’s extension contracts? Diaw is vital to the Spurs success because he’s a matchup nightmare for bigs and the best passer on the team

nick5354ParticipantI feel like for the majority of teams, it would be overpaying, but for the Spurs team and structure they run under Pop they are really able to use Diaw and justify his contract.

Mr. HookShotParticipantGood for Diaw himself also, considering he can stay with the Spurs. I have the feeling that for every other team he would have returned to his big fat self he was a few years ago. So he gets paid, stays in shape and on top of his game, and has the possibility to compete for a championship.
