d-ravParticipantWhat’s the man got to do to get recognition for his defensive ability. His breakout year last season, he had gaudy defensive stats of 2.5 bpg and 0.6 spg, yet for some reason was not deemed. This season, he upped his stats again, leading the league in blocks with 2.6, along with a decent steals per game statline of 0.7. Like last season however, it didn’t seem to matter much, missing out on the all defensive team again. Probably not deserved of a spot in the first team cause of Dwight Howard, and his team missed out on the postseason, but surely the second team. Tyson Chandler was named the Center for that team, with averages of 1.1 blocks and 0.5 steals. Starting to wonder whether the selected players are only from those in the postseason.

JRdaFilipinoParticipantthats dumb.. sure bogut is a good defensive player and lead the nba in blocks per game but the all defensive team is NOT based on stats alone.. for offensive purposes .. yeah, sure. but numbers on defense dont always tell the whole story. this example comes to mind.. bruce bowen.. a regular on the all defensive team in his prime averaged just 1 steal per game and not even 1 block per game yet he was so close to winning dpoy on a few occasions. cant judge a book by its cover, tyson chandler has been a defensive powerhouse this post season and his 2nd team all defensive team is well deserved

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSo What? Artest failed to make the team, coaches voted Kobe over him,but Phil Jackson always put Artest on the opposing team’s best offensive player…

Snubs15ParticipantKobe is a better defender than artest. Artest guards the opposing teams best player only to save Bryants energy for offense.
I also agree that bogut deserves to be on the defensive team. He plays D very well positional wise and i can almost guarantee he took more charges than Dwight and Chandler this year. Taking a charge is arguably a better defensive possession than recording a block and changing a shot because it guarantees your team just got a stop. Whereas a block can bounce back out to the other team and changing a shot doesnt also get you the rebound. He deserves way more than just one vote in the defensive team voting.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantTyson Chandler absolutely deserved to be on one of the teams. He was the main reason for Dallas’s evolution into an elite defensive team. Chandler doesn’t put up flashy block numbers because he has an extremely high defensive IQ and doesn’t try to swat everything (not saying guys like Dwight and Bogut do — everyone guards the basket differently). His absurd athleticism for a player his size, coupled with his length, makes it easy for him to cover as much floor as quickly as any big man in the league, and his speed in the open court also makes him a great fast-break defender. Without Chandler I don’t think the Mavs would’ve beaten the Lakers and their twin towers, let alone swept them.
