Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAge and injuries really did this guy in. Hard to believe that just a couple years ago he was still an All-NBA player. Now the pistons are basically paying him off to get rid of him. The athleticism that once defined his game has completely vanished and growing percentage of his shots are coming from the perimeter. He is shooting a putrid 36% from the field in the games he has played this year. He has lost his lateral quickness and become a complete liability on the defensive end.
Still, griffin is still a name and there will a market for his services among contenders. Even though the player you are likely getting in him more closely resembles later career Antoine Walker, there are still some useful things he can do on the court. Even though his finishing ability is greatly diminished, he can still be useful as a pick and roll threat due to his playmaking skills and ability to read a defense. He is a big with some floor spacing ability, even if his shooting percentages have been underwhelming the past few seasons. And against some second units he still has the ability to exploit certain mismatches in post situations.
Can this version of griffin still be a useful player on a championship contender and where would be the best fit for him? The nets currently seem to be front runners to land him.2+ - Posted on: Sat, 03/06/2021 - 12:03am #1247586
NorrinRaddParticipantImo, at this point in Blake’s career, he cannot help any team really get better regardless of contention or not. He can still contribute in minute ways, but as already articulated, he has way to many holes in his game and isn’t aging well. He is just a high well name at this point. About 9th/10th guy in a rotation tops. The league is pretty good and he isn’t the same.

sniperParticipantThe Nets are currently using Bruce Brown and Joe Harris as PFs and Jeff Green as backup C. Seems like they could find 15 minutes a game for Griffin … athough to be fair playing super-small isn’t hurting them at all so far.

CynthiaParticipantHe’s a great passer for a big man with a lot of options to pass to. He will just need to realize quick he’s only the 4th or 5th scoring option at any given time. With all the floor spacers on that team he will probably get around 4 assists, and the occasional open mid range shot. Solid 15-20 mins of production. He’s not what he used to be, but he definitely doesn’t make them worse, on a vet minimum it’s frankly a steal for an already stacked team.
