Is it Avery Bradley?….nope, is it Xavier Henry?…nope,…its Alec Burks

Probably not what many people would have predicted in October, but he averaged 16.8 pts 4.8 rebounds on the season and averaged 18.5 ppg in Big 12 play. At 6’6” 185 lbs he seems to be a great pro prospect at this point in his career, but then again so did former Colorado freshman phenom Richard Roby.

What do you guys think about Burks? and his prospect rank in comparison to Henry and Bradley?

He is projected to go 5th right now in the 2011 mock draft on this site so I guess it isn’t really a shock that he beat out the other two.

exactly..roby was doing the same thing and a man by the nameof donnie boyce who was on my brothers teamfor colorado years ago, as a freshman. im pretty sure bradley and henry wouldhave put upthose numbers and more for colorado. right now imnot sure what the hell this site is thinking of putting him 5th. gotta see how he plays next year and see if he can lead the team to more wins instead of just doing work on a bad team

Yeah, but Hassan Whiteside didn’t beat out Demarcus Cousins for any awards, it was more of a question to pre season expectations compared to production and after a year of ball where do you personally rank the 3, not what NBAdraft.net has for their 2011 mock.

In terms of a comparison to the type of pro prospect he is to me, I’d compare Burks to CJ Miles.

I talked about Burks in another topic and said the same things you guys did, he seems like a Richard Roby type to me. He’s getting top 5 hype right now for next season, but as a guy who watches a bunch of Big 12 games I don’t see anything about him that’s all that special. He seems to have some potential, but he’s not really that great a prospect to me. I could see him getting picked in the late 1st round, but he’s not even the best player on his bottom-dwelling team (Cory Higgins is). And he won’t be next year with Higgins returning for his Senior year. I do think that Colorado is going to be a surprise team next year though, which will get both of them more exposure.

I also think he is the worst defender of the 3, I think that is an NBA talent for sure, but I’m gonna say the same thing I said about Craig Brackins last year, He is not a top 10 pick he is in the 15-25 range, you can’t be too quick to jump on a talented guy putting up big numbers for a bad team and think he is the next great prospect, theres been a lot of guys who’ve not made it that have been in that situation, I have to see more than I have and I’ve seen and followed Colorado off and on all season.

Nice Donnie Boyce reference. He played on the same high school team as Michael Finley and Sherrell Ford. All three of them went on to become their college’s all time leading scorers. Impressive.

    Boyce at Colorado
    Finley at Wisconsin
    Ford at UIC

I used to follow them in high school. That team was sick but the Thornton team that had Melvin Ely, Antwaan Randle El, Tai Streets and Napoleon Kaufman was sick as well. 3 NFL players and 1 NBA player. Randle El could’ve made the NBA in my opinion.

If I thought it was going to be anyone I thought it would be Marquis Gilstrap of Iowa State. Projected mid-2nd round. 14.5 pts 9.4 rebs. Only player in big 12 play to average a double double at 15 pts 10 rebs.

What about Tommy Mason-Griffin???? I know Oklahoma was sub-par this year, but he looks like a good talent.

I think until he started to slip down the stretch, it would have been Ekpe Udoh. Big 12 had some impressive newcomers, to be sure.

My vote would have been for Xavier Henry, but Burks was probably the most consistent freshman in the country. He also really lifted his game down the stretch. Just a shame Colorado had nothing to go with their dynamic wing combo of Higgins and Burks.
