ItsRainingNegsParticipantSo this has been bothering me for far too long to not vent on here. What the hell is Danny Ferry doing? He starts off last year ridding the team of the horrendous contract of Joe Johnson and practically cleaning house for this offseason to put himself in a position to make a run for Paul and Dwight. That was absolutely genius. He enters the draft and drafts a future center in Bebe to pair with high potential Schroder. That was also genius, though I like Jeff Teague but still. Extremely impressive value while keeping cap room for the two.
Then what the hell happened? He signs an undersized power forward to pair with the out of position Al Horford and then decides to resign Korver to a 6 mil per year extension even though they have John Jenkins waiting in the wings to be their 3 point specialist on a much cheaper contract. Now they’re either getting the undersized and over priced Monta Ellis or swapping semi-impressive Jeff Teague with the even more overrated Brandon Jennings. What is going on with him? They could’ve set them selves up with Schroder-Jenkins-2014 pick-Horford-Nogueria and now they are again in the 8-10 seed range. Why Danny Ferry? You were in a perfect position to make the Hawks completely relevant in the next 5 years.
This may be extreme for all of the good he’s done, but he’s my vote for worst GM of this offseason. What’s your alls opinion and who’s your best/worst GM?

r377ParticipantYeh if Atlanta let Teague sign with the Bucks and they get Ellis would be a terrible mistake. They need a centre, why don’t they at least go after Dalembert ? He won’t cost much….
They also got nothing back for Josh Smith.
The Hawks have to match this…..
report—-Restricted free agent Jeff Teague plans to sign a four-year, $32 million-plus offer sheet with the Bucks.
Once it is signed, the Hawks will have three days to match. The trade winds have been swirling around a Teague-Brandon Jennings deal and this may be enough interest to facilitate that deal. Teague’s offer sheet isn’t too much above the qualifying offer of $3.5 million, so it’s reasonable that the Hawks match the offer.

kyrieTIME002ParticipantChris grant is the best gm this offseason and might be the best in the league. (Cavs)

arowsky205ParticipantBest GMs this offseason:
Christ Grant, Cavs- Loading the team with young talent and putting them in a position to make the playoffs, acquiring one of the best, if not the best, backup PG in the league, and getting Andrew Bynum for a great contract that still allows them to be flexible.
Gary Sacks, Clippers- Getting Doc Rivers, who I think is the best coach in the league, retaining Chris Paul, acquiring shooters, and keeping the bench stacked. (not sure if he was the mastermind behind all these moves, but the Clippers have done a great job)
Flip Saunders, Timberwolves and Neil Olshey, Trail Blazers-Both these guys loaded up really weak benches and have their teams in position to fight for the playoffs. Both teams would easily make the playoffs if they were in the east.
Worst GMs this offseason:
Danny Ferry, Hawks-I agree with you 100%, AC68Outlaw. The Hawks were stuck in the middle of the eastern conference and when Ferry came in it seemed like he had a plan to get worse to get better. He’s put them right back where they started and they’re locked into the team they have now. Just doesn’t make sense.
Don Nelson, Mavericks-They assumed they’d get a top free agent and struck out. Then they settled for long-term contracts with aging guys. Also they gave up several assets to move BACK a few spots in the draft and got a guy who’s now the third or fourth PG on the depth chart.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantI’m surprised you believe Doc is the best coach in the league. I’m on board with Pop 100% but I guess it’s just scheme preference.

arowsky205ParticipantPop is definitely a close second. But to me he made too many mistakes in the finals when he benched Duncan and then Parker. Putting the ball in Ginobili’s hands instead of Parker’s just doesn’t make any sense at all.

PabloFiascoParticipantWasn’t Danny Ferry the GM in Cleveland….just look at the crap he surrounded LeBron with back then…..nothing has changed
Best GM- Chris Grant
Worst- Mitch Kupchak0- Posted on: Wed, 07/10/2013 - 11:03pm #818451
ItsRainingNegsParticipantI can see Chris Grant but you can’t blame Kupchak for going all in on Dwight instead of signing, say, Iguodala and Millsap (btw that five healthy Nash-Bryant-Iggy-Millsap-Gasol). Well, on second thought maybe you can…

Toronto16ParticipantI don’t think you guys realize that there is a salary cap floor, and GM’s must spend a certain amount of money. I think it is 85 or 90 percent of the cap which is 58 million. Danny Ferry was going all in on Dwight and Chris Paul, swung and missed on both of them so he has to fill up the cap floor with these horrible contracts. Haven’t you noticed Mark Cuban does this every season?
I think we are too quick to rip these GM’s, but their hands are tied in a lots of cases and they are only following NBA and CBA rules.

B-ball fanParticipantIs it just me, or does a Dennis Schoder-John Jenkins-2014 draft pick-Al Horford-Lucas Nogueira line-up look like the worst line-up in the entire league? Only one of those players has any proven production. That team would put them in place for a high pick in the 2015 draft, but I don’t disagree entirely with making some moves to improve the team, such as signing Millsaps to a short, relatively cheap deal and re-signing a proven shooting specialist in Korver, rather than taking a chance with a late first rounder.
The Hawks are in position to build something nice in a few years, with smart draft picks and signings from here on out. Maybe Millsap doesn’t allow Horford to move to center, but he is a better player than anyone else the Hawks could have signed for his money. Nogueira may not even come over until after Millsap’s contract expires.
