I can’t believe he quit…he may be one of the all time greats. Not just in the NBA, but over all of sports. And I can’t believe Deron Williams *might* have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. And I can’t believe ownership is backing Williams over this. That’d be like…Joe Paterno quitting because of some primadonna QB. I mean, yeah, he may be an HoF’er some day, but he’s just 5 or 6 years into his career. Sloan’s been coaching THE SAME TEAM literally since before I was born. When (arguably) one of the most respected coachs in the history of the NBA bows to the wishes of one player, you know the league is screwed up. Hell, he even coexisted with Malone and Stockton for 15-18 years! I lost a lot of respect for D-Will today.

I don’t think he’s done. He’s going to probably take a year or two off. Phil Jackson is retiring, I can see LA giving Sloan a boat load offer to coach. Whenever he does return, he will not have a hard time finding a new team.

That would be crazy if Sloan coached LA. Honestly that would be the ultimate blow to Jazz fans, like the final knock out punch to just crus their spirits. Whats next Stockton goes to Coach the Bulls, and Williams gets traded over their for Deng and a pick?

As much as I dislike the Lakers, if Sloan does coach that team, I would be rooting hard for him because no coach deserves a title more than that guy. He deserves a title and it would be a sweet revenge against his Jazz.

Seems to perfect to not happen, also seems to perfect to not be set up. Throw in a little bit of Deron Williams drama to keep veiwers entertained, and give Sloan the storybook ending he deserves for paying the league with so much of his tme and effort. The way Stern works?

Jerry sloan PROBABLY stepped down because hes been coaching since 1988… longer than most of you have been alive… and thats that… i bet it had nothing to do with players and nothing to do with managers.. jerry sloan supercedes both… and with the coach that coached stockton and the mailman that should be enough for anybody…

i dont think hes necessarily done.. anybody can have a change of heart… but i GUARENTEE hes not gonna coach his arch rival lakers… even if a championship seems eminant…
honestly i wanna see larry brown and phil jacksons comments on this…

guarentee it… hopefully he has pride… if hes done now hes done forever… and if hes not, you need to think of more likely destinations than the lakes… such as the heat for example…
thumbs up for that statement tho.. but i think theres more likely title destinations than the lakers…

If Jerry Sloan can’t deal with personalities then why in the bleeping bleep do ya’ll think he could coach the Lakers? He would leave before the first practice. I highly doubt Deron is worse than Kobe, and Sloan is probably a control freak, so it’s either his way of the highway. Sometimes a coach just has to let his best players play… Like I said in another thread, Sloan probably just made a rash decision, and the way we’re depicting Deron to be when we don’t know any details is messed up, and if ya’ll rather lose Deron over Sloan then something is wrong. Deron has been the cornerstone of the Jazz’s success since he’s been starting.

Jerry Sloan is 3 years older than Phil Jackson so if Phil does step down this summer then would giving Jerry the job be a good long term move. I feel disgusted if it is player power that has forced Coach Sloan ( I know that he techically usn’t but out of respect for the mn, I’ll refer to him as this). Maybe as has been said after 23 years he had just had enough, he’s nearly 69 years old and probably wants to enjoy his retirement. But going now, does seem strange, surely see out the season and then announce it probably having pre-warned Kevin O’Connor and the owners that he was going to step down so they could plan for life without him.
That Coach Sloan had served for 8 years longer than the next longest serving NBA Coach and was the longest serving Head Coach in all major North American sports says something. The only major sports manager or Head Coach who has served longer is the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson who has been manager of Manchester United Football Club here in England since November 1986 and who is now 69 years old.
Also lest not forget that Coach Sloan was twice an All Star player during his playing days and that according to ESPN 40 current NBA players weren’t born when he took over at Utah. Rumours that Cleveland’s losing ran began prior to Coach Sloan joining Utah are as yet unfounded.

I wouldnt say the people of Utah are upset with Deron about ushering Sloan out…But i heard about 100 people have asked him to return all of those Donny Osmond albums they gave him when he signed with the Jazz….
