cward23ParticipantNE Washington, DC – Baltimore’s Finest, led by Memphis Grizzlies 2011 second round selection Josh Selby’s 42 points, cameback from an 18 point deficit to defeat Backyard 120-117. Donte Green of the Sacramento Kings nailed a three point shot with three seconds remaining to secure the win. Baltimore’s Finest runs their record to a perfect 6-0 in the Urbo Coalition. Baltimore’s victory spoiled an otherwise outstanding evening for the Backyard Squad but the game turned on a late entry from the boys up north.
The Backyard Squad of D-Nice, Deuce, Robb “Sky” Diggs, David “The Incredible Hulk” Hawkins, and Nat Burton shot the lights out and dominated the Baltimore squad for more than three quarters before running low on gas down down the stretch. Baltimore’s Finest suited up Josh “The Boy Wonder” Selby (Memphis Grizzlies), Donte Greene (Sacramento Kings), Jai Lewis, the former George Mason big man who helped lead them to the 207 Final Four, Reggie Holmes (Morgan State) and Story. The game ultimately turned in BMore’s favor with the late game entry of Terence “Quick” Whiters whose quicks, fresh legs, energy, defense and three point shooting helped Baltimore claw back into the game ultimately seize the lead in the fourth quarter. “Quick” Whiters led 3rd Eye to the Goodman League Title in 2007 and seized the MVP honors
Backyard’s D-Nice (32 points) was unstoppable early while performing his now you see, now you don’t magical tricks with the ball, swishing three point jumpers and making incredible no look passes. D Nice is one of the guys you hear about when people talk about great players who never got “the chance”. D Nice is NBA talented. You name it and he can do it. D-Nice is the best pure guard in the city. One on one D-Nice is virtually unguardable. Steal the ball? Forget about it. Reach and he’s gone. Play him tight and he’ll make the pass to the open man every time. I hope to tell his story this summer.
Josh Selby struggled at the point early on but as soon as he played his game which is scoring he, like D-Nice of Backyard, started dominating. Selby, more explosive than D-Nice because he’s playing on younger legs, is relentless. His mindset is score, score, score but Terence Whiters is the reason Baltimore clawed back into the game. Whiters gave BMore a bigger rotation of scorers and playmakers but the DC squad still almost forced the game into overtime.
Backyard’s “Sky” Diggs, Nat Burton, Deuce, “Hulk” Hawkins, and D-Nice powered Backyard to a 57-42 lead by halftime.
Baltimore came out of the haltime with a lot of energy while Backyard came out a little sluggish. Josh Selby and Terence Whiters relentlessly attacked the basket while getting to the free throw line. Selby started getting hot from the outside and nailed several shots from downtown. He and Whiters took turns sharing the scoring load until Reggie Holmes got warmed up. Baltimore tied the game at 90 apiece with just over six minutes left in the game after Terence Whites hit a three point shot. Baltimore seized the lead and two consecutive jumper by Reggie Holmes and never looked back until D-Nice hit four consecutive three point shots to tie the game at 117.
With three seconds left on the clock, Donte Greene nailed a long three point shot to pull out the victory.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWere you at the game, or is this someone else’s account? Just wondering, as you usually do not go this in-depth. If it is yours, good job, though it would be nice to know more than nicknames of some of the players. If not, if you could post a link or reference to who wrote the article it would be much appreciated. Sorry for bringing this up, I would do it to anyone whose writing appears to have changed drastically from normal. Were you playing in the tourney? Did you have friends in it? It would be great to get more information about who you are and what you do, so we maybe have some background on your experience as a player. I am asking this completely as a peer and not calling you out, if you have any questions for me I would be glad to answer them. Also, if you could say the name of the league (is it Urband coalition?) and give us some more info I would greatly appreciate it. Most of us do not belong to pay recruiting sites and I know I for one have minimal knowledge of Summer Pro-Am leagues that were outside of the NBA.

mikeyvthedonParticipantJust was wondering. No hostility, just kind of wanted to get an idea of where your knowledge base is coming from. I realize that sometimes this site does not accept certain links, but I always like people at least stating where they got their sources from. Any chance of you telling us what number you were for the NC Pro-Am League Game against Jerry Stackhouse’s team. Or a bit about your basketball background. I know I am interested.

Pass FirstParticipantThe goodman league indoors. Alot of the NBA and college hoopers didn’t want to play on the concrete so this venue was re-introduced to accomodate those guys.

hiphopismylifeParticipantCalling it the best league in the country is highly debateable. Indianapolis Pro Am League has over 20 NBA players. Lance Stephenson, Eric Gordon, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, Roy Hibbert, Bonzi Wells, Jeff Teague, Josh McRoberts, Zach Randolph, Ron Artest, Daequan Cook, Shelvin Mack. Also nearly the whole Indiana University and IUPUI teams are playing.
I love watching DC hoopers though.

hiphopismylifeParticipantYeah you’re hyping up Greivis Vazquez and Donte Greene but Eric Gordon and Zach Randolph are "low level". Yea. The only star you listed is Durant. Besides that theres no way that the NBA players you listed are as impressive.

kaceyParticipantThe Kentucky ProAm league I went to may go down as one of the lowest talent level leagues this summer.
Known players in the league:
Corey Brewer: Had some sick nasty dunks. Didn’t really take over any of the games.
Andre Owen: The game I saw him play he only scored four points. Didn’t really look to do anything.
Mark Davis: Texas Tech, played for 76ers, T’Wolves, Heat, and Warriors. About 39 years old, was one of the better looking players there. I think he plays in Finland now.
Trenton Hassell: Looked solid, but he was moving around like an old man after every game.
Jabari Smith: Played at LSU with Swift. Settled for outside jumpers all day, even shooting some three pointers.
Jeremy Evans: Rookie with the Jazz last year. Super athletic, contested every shot that came into the lane. Had a sick block where he tracked a guy down from almost 3/4 of the court and beat it off the backboard. Had some nice dunks as well.
AJ Slaughter: Had a scoring frenzy with about a minute to go in one game.
Deonta Vaughn: Didn’t do anything in the championship game. His team had the better team, but 3 bad calls by one ref pretty much screwed their team in the last 3 minutes of the game.
Some of the other players looked familiar, but I couldn’t remember their names. None of the guys with NBA experience took over a game. Every team there played as a team and had really solid chemistry.
