shipargosParticipantEverybody knows about Daye’s body, hes not at the same level of KD but i found many similarities in the combine numbers.
Weight
KD had a better weight at 215 to Dayes 192, that could influence the jumping ability disparity.
Both had poor no step verts.
KD had a superior step vert and that could be also Dayes poor body strenght and his recent injury.
The rest of numbers look very similar, even lenght. They are not athletic players in the combine set, due to lack of strenght, (look how Durant has progressed due to a strenght training)- neither could even lift the bench press. In terms of skillset, there is a large gap, I dont see Daye playing like KD someday, but i believe he has more potential that you can see with your eyes.
The big if, IF he could put 25 pounds at least we will expierence the carbon to diamond transmutation is a BKB player.

llperezHe could prove to be a steal. But whoever drafts him had better be willing to show patience and work with him. He rarely stood out while at Gonzaga, and I’m not about to start comparing him to Durant based on few combine numbers. Durant was dominant in college, and it has translated well into the NBA.

birdman113look at their college stats Durant 25 pts 11 rebs Daye 10 pts 4rebs (freshman year) Durants so much better than him its not comparable.

futureGM22Participantshipargos is not saying that they are equivalent in talent. He’s saying that their combine measurements are very similar so people shouldn’t use Daye’s lack of strength and athleticism as the sole reason he won’t be successful in the NBA. You can say he has inferior ball handling skills and question his toughness, but not athleticism by itself. Nobody is saying Daye and Durant are the same talent wise. However, they both are lanky small forwards that shoot the ball well (KD shoots much better obviously) so I think it is an alright comparison
Everyone knows Kevin Durant is a far better player than Austin Daye0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/21/2009 - 12:10pm #169806

JNixonParticipantI agree with future Gm 100%…you just have to say Daye is a “poor man’s version.” I mean the comparison is there, they have similar physical traits so you have to expect the comparison.

Tim49461ParticipantI blame the Wingspan for these guys….i love how everyone says OMG he can’t bench 185….Well considering most of you guys in here are about lets say 6′ u have about 2′ max before the bar hits your chest and push all the way back up…..NOW lets say u have a crazy wingspan like KD and AD with wingspan on 7’+ that is a extra foot they have to push that bar up…..So don’t gimme that..Haha i can do 185…

Mr.Duke 1426ParticipantYou cannot compare to players just because they have similar body types. Were you the one that said tyreke could be the next wade? Anyway, I’m pretty sure that everyone here that watches basketball will tell you that daye will never be as good or close to durant! Now I’m not saying he won’t be a good player, he can be a good scorer off of the bench. And even though daye and durant have similar bodies and combine results, durant is way more skilled with the basketball.

llperezthere is no debating that long arms hurt your ability to bench press. But to not even be able to do 185 once is pretty sad for a pro athlete. Especially for a forward who has been in college for 2 years knowing that strength was one of his concerns.
The problem I see with Daye is what does he do so well? He is tall and can shoot, but if he get’s pushed around, NBA players will be licking their chops to go at him. That’s why I suggested, that while he could be a steal, I don’t think we will see much of him for the first 2 years.

JNixonParticipantI wasnt the one that said Tyreke Evans was the next D. Wade, lets get our facts straight

He is far away from Durant and will never be KD, maybe not even close. But their bodies and accuracy can draw some comparisons, and also i said Daye is skilled and cannot simply attach his combine results with his possible sucess,

a2ParticipantThe body types are similar along with combine numbers but they are not the same player. Kevin was doing things in college Daye could only dream of doing. Kevin was dominant and Daye was not. Daye might turn out to be something specail soon but wil never be any where close to Kevin.
