tblazer_NZParticipantAtlanta Hawks Summer and Season Preview.
- STAY: Kent Bazemore, Al Horford, Kyle Korver, Shelvin Mack, Paul Millsap, Dennis Schröder, Mike Scott, Thabo Sefolosha, Jeff Teague, Mike Muscala (Non-guaranteed).
- IN: Tim Hardaway Jr. (NYK), Justin Holiday (GSW), Lamar Patterson (R), Terran Petteway (R), Tiago Splitter (SAS), Walter Tavares (R).
- UNSIGNED DRAFT PICKS: Marcus Eriksson (50), Dimitrios Agravanis (59)
- FREE AGENTS: Elton Brand, Austin Daye.
- OUT: Pero Antic, DeMarre Carroll (TOR), John Jenkins (DAL).
Mike Scott is a question mark with this arrest on drug charges.
Last season record: 60-22
Projected line up
1. Jeff Teague, Dennis Schröder, Shelvin Mack
2. Tim Hardaway Jr, Kent Bazemore, Justin Holiday
3. Kyle Korver, Thabo Sefolosha
4. Paul Millsap, Mike Muscala/Mike Scott
5. Al Horford, Tiago Splitter, Walter Tavares
This team lacks good perimeter defence due to the loss of DeMarre Carroll. My expectations are still that of a playoff team with home court advantage. They still lack a go to crunch time scorer and where lucky to survive the Washington series.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI think they are still one of the top teams in the East but they will miss Carroll’s defense at small forward. If Korver is starting at the 3 he will struggle to defend players like Lebron, Jimmy Butler, KD, etc. They have no depth at the position which will likely force Bazemore to play some small forward.
Splitter is a good pick up to play behind and at times next to Horford. I was also reading that Mike Scott could be facing up to 25 years for the drugs he and his brother were caught with.

ExumInfernoParticipantI don’t think they will win the championship but they will be good. By getting a lot bigger they have more options. Splitter, Horford, Millsap, that will be a very good frontline when they go tall. When they go small, Teague and Schroder will be hard for teams to run with when that is the backcourt.
Muscala has become a better player than expected, with more range. The big part that people will watch is Hardaway, and if he shoots better and can defend the right way. With the Hawks, and how they function as a team compared to the Knicks, Hardaway should have better outside looks and might get to at least 38% on 3s. On defense, not sure how that will work but maybe he starts getting more steals and can learn to at least send his opponents into Horford when they go by him.
How many players have NBA relatives? It seems plenty of Hawks have brothers, fathers or someone with a link to the league. Horford, Millsap, Teague, Hardaway, Holiday, that wouldn’t be a bad lineup for them to use sometimes and they all have NBA ability in their family.
Atlanta, around 4 or 5 in the East. If they are bigger, more rested and healthier when the playoffs hit, the Hawks might get to the conference finals.

Arc12345ParticipantAs an ATL native, I was pretty disappointed in the off season after a record setting year.
I know we won a lot of games, but I still think this roster needs work. Everyone says it, but we really don’t have that go-to player.
I like our bigs (Horford, Millsap, and now Splitter, with Muscala thrown in). I think they can hold their own with just about anybody, but again none of them are the go-to players. Very very good pieces though.
The wings need to be revamped. I wish we could’ve gotten a star on the wing, and I’m a little annoyed we traded Oubre because I was impressed with his summer league (although it’s just summer league). Hardaway isn’t the answer to me and Korver only gets older. I wasn’t that upset about losing Carroll, because he wasn’t the answer I wanted on the wing either.
I like our depth at PG, as Schroeder and Mack are very solid. I like Teague, I really do, but he’ll never be CP3, Lillard, or Curry level in my opinion. After passing on CP3 all those years ago, I just have extremely high standards of what I want in ATL’s PG. I really wonder if he’s the PG we need to be successful, but they seem incredibly content with him but I’m just not content to be honest. His shooting is not where it needs to be, and again, he’s just not a go-to player. I think it would help him tremendously if he had more help on the wing though. Then I’d probably be happier to have him.
I wish we could’ve gotten Paul Pierce. That would’ve been perfect.

BiggysmallsParticipantIn response to the post about Korver guarding the elite wings: A. Nobody stops those guys. B. Korver won’t defend those guys. Hardaway would. Not that he’d do a whole lot better, but he or Bazemore would defend the elite wings.
Atlanta can contend with the group they have, but their margin for error is really small. Everything is based on chemistry and if that is even slightly off, they can look very ordinary.
They need Teague to play like first half of the season Teague in the playoffs and hopefully Schroeder can take another step. Millsap and Horford are solid, though they didn’t look great in that Cleveland series.

HitsterParticipantThe Hawks still have a very strong team despite losing DeMarre Carroll, they flipped their pick via the Nets for Tim Hardaway Jnr who is 6 years younger than Carroll and still on his rookie deal.
Tiago Splitter has championship winnimng experience and gives the Hawks a legit 3 man frontcourt rotation too.
I don’t see them winning 60 games again but they should be a legit 50 plus win contender and a likely top 5 seed.

ExumInfernoParticipantJason Richardson has now joined the Hawks. The deal isn’t guaranteed but it does look like they have one open roster spot.
