McDunkinNew head coach Larry Brown is already making a splash at SMU .
On Friday morning, he landed his first commitment for the Mustangs: Arizona transfer Josiah Turner.
“It’s a great fit for me,” Turner told Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com.
Turner had a tumultuous first season with the Wildcats, getting suspended multiple times before being dismissed from the team for off-court issues. He was also arrested by campus police last week and charged with extreme DUI. As Goodman has said, though, if Brown could handle Allen Iverson, Turner should be a walk in the park.
Turner, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Sacramento, averaged 6.8 points during his freshman season for Arizona. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

orangeshadow83ParticipantBefore the season I though Turner was going to be the best freshman PG…wow was I wrong. His Freshman season was a huge dissapointment, but with that said this could be a great fit. Hopefully Brown can get Turner to start thinking straight and live up to his potential. Someone with his talent should be a first round pick and if he doesn’t make it to the NBA it will be a huge waste of that talent,

mikeyvthedonParticipantThe rumor and the confirmation. Para’s was the rumor and McMustang’s was the confirmation. Either way, this had been a rumor for a while and it finally has come true. Another something coming through the grape vine is that Crandall Head, brother of Luther and transfer from his older bro’s alma mater of Illinois, might be at SMU also.

Seems like Turner was a bit of a headache for Sean Miller last year. It is cool that he is getting a second (or whatever number it is) chance under a fantastic coach in Larry Brown. If he uses it right, could mean big things for both he and Larry’s plan to turn around SMU. Not surprised Larry Brown is drawing big names, will be really interested to see how long he lasts at Southern Methodist and what he can do there.

Wahoo757ParticipantI was the first on this site to bring up Larry Brown and how he will transform the SMU program into a nationally prominent team. This is just the beginning. I’m expecting a big recruiting class, perhaps including Dallas native Julius Randle.
