joe2324Participantthe celtics could potentially win a championship this year without a true superstar like the cavs or warriors, just a bunch of hardworking guys who play smart and tough on both ends of the court. Adding a lottery pick this year in a deep draft and potentially next year along with other picks, I don’t see how this team isn’t set up for the next 10-15 years for success.Thank you Brooklyn.

negguaryParticipantthis team is set up for the most immediate and long term success in the league, and this is coming from an adamant sixers fan who believes in our future! But to be able to have the number 1 seed in the east currently, and being able to bring up young stars, not mid level talent but potential superstar talent in that culture playing meaningful games from day 1 is ridiculous! I really hope my boys put all the pieces back so the sixers and Celtics can bring the 80’s back with the rivalries!

frogmanParticipantHopefully Isaiah Thomas doesn’t see your post or he will go on some rant about how he is underappreciated. They are set up beautifully for the next decade. Especially after screwing Brooklyn they will be unbelievably deep next year after getting another very high pick. They will have to pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal for a Jimmy Butler type over the next season or so. I love their collection of players but you can only play five players at a time.

MopgrassParticipantI agree that they’re Butler or some star away. I figure they’d have to trade Jaylen Brown or their pick. If they keep the pick, I have no idea what they do. The top 5 projected picks on this site are either PG’s or SF’s. That’s replacing IT2/Smart/Rozier or Crowder/Brown. I guess Jaylen Brown or Josh Jackson could play SG, but it’s not ideal. They have too many good players. It’s a good problem to have.

BleedGreen808ParticipantBrown has played a lot of 2 guard this year. He has a really good post game which has allowed him to attack smaller defenders from that position. In the past I have mentioned that after the 2018 season Boston will have a decision to make with IT, Smart, and AB being free agents. If BPA this draft is a point guard you take that player regardless of need. Plus Rozier wouldn’t stop me from drafting Fultz or Ball.
Also I would note that Boston is not limited to just trading for a star. Ainge can open up max cap space this offseason to go after Hayward or Blake Griffin. Hypothetically if you get Hayward now the starting lineup includes IT/AB/Hayward/Horford and a 5th starter. Then off the bench you have Smart, Brown, Crowder, 2017 Brooklyn Pick, Ante Zizic, etc.

Evan_MilbergParticipantDynasty? What have they done other than take over first place in the East for a day? Yes, they have a great structure in place with lots of draft picks, young talent, a great head coach and GM, but until they win make some noise in the playoffs and win when it matters, let’s hold off on the dynasty talk.
That said, they’re having a great regular season and I for one DO think the Celtics have a bona fide star in Isaiah Thomas. Getting real tired of fans and media types saying the Celtics don’t have a "real star," when Thomas is third in league in PPG and has established himself as a guy who can take over in the fourth quarter.

machu46ParticipantWe’ll see. The Celtics are a good team, but I don’t really see the team as a title contender as currently constructed. I think they’d probably get swept by the Warriors or Spurs in the Finals if they got past the Cavs.
It really depends on what happens in the next couple of off-seasons. They’re going to have to give a massive contract to Isaiah or they’ll have to trade him. I don’t think he’s worth the contract that he’ll get and obviously trading him will make the Celtics worse in the short-term (though I guess this depends on what he’s traded for).
They’re in a good position, but I’m not confident they ever become a title contender unless one of these draft picks turns into a franchise player. That’s not to suggest the Celtics aren’t good. I just think that’s the reality of the NBA landscape right now. You have to have an incredible team to outbattle the Warriors. I think the Celtics are the #4 team in the NBA at best right now and I don’t think anyone outside the top 3 has a chance at winning the title.

HitsterParticipantWe all talk about them doing a deal but they could add two superstars via next two drafts thanks to Billy King and the Nets, it’s not as if they are win now with a superstar player whose window is closing. Ainge and Stevens seem content to let these players develop.
They are already a top 5 NBA team albeit a bit behind the very best teams but add say Fultz and Porter/Ayrton to that roster and it looks scary.

OhCanada-ParticipantThe Celtics are a threat this year and will be for many years down the road. They really play to the tune of thier fans which can make them a deadly team. They have tons of depth alot of guys that deserve larger roles.
They will struggle in the Playoffs when the pace slows down. Even the 1st round could be tough for them. If they get matched up against Indiana I wouldnt count out an experienced Pacers group.
I also think Isaiah Thomas attitude is annoying. He seems conceded and unapproachable.

HitsterParticipantJust a total wildcard idea lets say Boston take a great young PG in the draft, could they flip Isaiah for another All Star, lets say Jimmy Butler?
Isaiah might not be as fire proof as he seems.

machu46ParticipantI think this is the obvious move to make honestly, though I’m not sure anyone would trade a superstar for another star. Generally if a team is trading a star, it’s to a team that’s trying to make a run themselves, so they’d be giving up young assets/picks for him. If they can convince a team to trade Butler/Paul George for example for Isaiah, I think it’s a no-brainer.

D7H7NParticipantThey should’ve traded for a rebounding role player to bring that energy off the bench before the deadline. Toronto traded for PJ Tucker and he’s been better than Carroll. I would have a lot more confidence in Boston if they had made some sort of acquisition.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantThey’ve never even won a playoff series under Stevens, so I’d slow on the dynasty talk.
I don’t take them as a serious threat this year. But they are in a position to be in the contender mix for a long time going forward if they have some lottery luck and draft well.

Dell87ParticipantJust as long as Boston doesnt pull a Detroit pistons move……………………………………………………………….. ……….
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/28/2017 - 6:54pm #1094665
Dell87ParticipantWin the chip with 5 good but not great players then draft a bust. Ex. Darko. The pistons screwed up and drafted Darko instead of Melo, Bosh or Wade because they already had Prince Wallace and Hamilton. Wether we win the chip or not, we have to acquire the best possible talent wether it be by draft or trade
