I’m strangely intrigued by Sacramento’s young pieces. I really like Fox, and see him ending up somewhere between Reggie Jackson – Mike Conley. A nice, starting quality point guard. I like Buddy Hield. He was a flame-thrower from deep during the 2nd half of the season…. and he seems to have put on some size. I think he’ll have a nice year. I like Bojan as well. He flashed some nice secondary playmaking, and appears to have a little Wally Sczcerbiak in his game with his efficiency & pop. I REALLY like Harry Giles. He’s got a lot of tools, and could be a difference maker on both side of the floor if his legs hold up. I’m 50/50 on Bagley. He seems to have a high floor due to his motor & finishing ability…. but if he can develop an outside jumper, improve upon his already decent handle in open space, and defend, he could be a good building block as well.

If I’m the Kings, I am shopping WCS hard this season. He’s not in my long term plans, and if they couls somehow get a pick in the late teens early 20’s that would help ease the pain of losing their lottery pick.

They have drafted a huge number or added via trades pool of young players. Last season they seemed to possibly change their starting line up more than any other team as Dave Joerger shuffled his pack trying to find the right mix. I rate Dave as a coach so hopefully he can get something out of this young core.

Fox should be the long term PG, Hield I’m still not sure whether he is a starter or a good 6th man. They have a crop of young bigs from which we’d hope Bagley will emerge as a player his draft position merited. One out of Skal, WCS and Giles may need to be shopped and having no draft pick next year could really hurt them.

But with good cap room they may be able to add a pick or two to lessen the loss of their own first rounder.

I don’t know. There’s definitely some talent there but no one that really jumps off the page as a guy you can build around. I feel like doncic had a chance to be that type of player, but I have a much harder time seeing it with bagley. I still feel like that could come back to haunt them down the line. I love fox’s mentality on the court, but he needs to become a reliable outside shooter to have any chance of becoming an upper tier pg. With his build, I don’t know if he’ll ever be a great finisher around the rim. Giles needs to prove he can stay healthy before you can really say he’s going to be a big part of their future. Hield and bogdanovich are probably best suited as role players and are both kind of specialists imo. Guys like Justin Jackson and skal I don’t really see as being impact guys and are probably borderline nba players. 

There is something to work with here, but let’s be honest. For a team that so consistently drafts in the lottery they should be a lot further along in their rebuild right now. This has consistently been one of the most poorly run franchises in professional sports and there have been a ton of questionable moves that have set them back. Even if they do get something good going, it’s hard for me to believe management won’t find a way to somehow screw things up.

is the key for me. His health will determine who stays, who goes & what they do with Skal & WCS.

Giles has me smitten. I turned on a game the other day, i believe it was against Utah, and they were getting blown out of the building. But man, when they gave him the ball he was making plays. I saw some Marc Gasol in his offensive game, not in terms of physical profile or athleticism, but moreso in the way he sees the floor. On both sides of the ball. He’s a smart player, and he legitimately tries on defense both with his own man & within his team’s help concepts. He’s vocal. I listened to a bill simmons podcast with Jason Tatum, and Jason said that Harry Giles was easilly the most talented player within his junior high school class. Like, not even close.

He has a lot of upside. And I really, really hope his injuries are behind him.

 I actually like their recent picks that they drafted outside the lottery, namely Giles and Frank Mason Jnr. I think they’ve both shown better than average talent that you get at the spots they were picked at. Bogdanovic can play and for mine, Doncic was the pick to pair with him. 

All the other guys – meh.. WCS, Skal, Bagley, Hield and Fox.. Will that group ever get you into playoff contention?

 I know this is a guy that isn’t getting much attention, but I really liked what I saw from Waylen Gabriel this pre-season, he has a good motor, and is a real effort guy, I can him developing into a good bench guy with a similar skillset to kenneth faried, as in high energy, good defense, and rebounding.

 

I can see career stats of 9 and 5 for him!

 Its a nice collection of talent but really every NBA team has that. I dont think the Kings are the team that is going to be converting that talent into a group that makes winning plays anytime soon. They are still a few years away and a few pieces away from being competitive.

 Every NBA team has guys that can play, at least a little. The question is, do they have a star, a player capable of being one of the 10-15 best players in the league. And in today’s game you need multiple guys with at least the potential to be in the top 20-25 players to really have a chance.

If you ask me, Sacramento is one of a handful of teams in the league that essentially does not have a single player that has a realistic chance of being one of the top 10-20 players in the league. We don’t really know what Bagley is yet, but other than him, I don’t see a player on the roster that is even capable of cracking the top 100.

 Bit of hate for the Kings.  Compared to what a mess they have been lately they look to be on the right track.  I think they can prob win 35 games this year and look to go 500 next season and possibly compete for a playoff spot.
