    Cleveland trades: Luol Deng

Houston trades: Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas & first round pick

Cleveland gets value in return for Deng. Houston gets a top 5 SF that will help them make a push for the playoffs. They where interested in Josh Smith. Isn’t Deng better?

I think this trade is fair for both sides.

    Why would Houston do this???

They get Deng for a half of a season he’s not that big of a game changer

Why do they do this? Asik wants out, is basically refusing to play, Domo doesn’t play either, also requested a trade. That first round pick will be late in the draft anyways. Morey doesn’t care about that pick. He’s fine with2nd rounders. If you can take those three assets, that literally mean nothing for Houston, and turn it into Luol Deng, who, could definitely resign if he likes winning,  healthy locker rooms and no income taxes, then it would be a total win for Houston. Why are you assuming he wouldn’t resign? The only reason he won’t in Cleveland is because they suck in every facet. Houston is an upcoming team that will win, and, from the looks of it, is fine behavior wise.

They do it to try and make a run at the title. Omer Asik isn’t getting any playing time and neither is Motiejunas. Deng could start at the 3 and Parsons can play at the 4 or the other way around as Deng has the length to play the 4 for long stretches.

I kind of like the trade, gives Houston some depth/versatility for a playoff push. I don’t really see them throwing in the 1st round pick though, especially when they’re most likely losing Deng at the end of this season. This 2014 draft has talent throughout the first round. I believe the mock has them picking Adreian Payne w/ the 24th pick. Now as that would be an ideal pick up for the Rockets, I don’t believe he will still be available when Houston picks. Either way though they should get a solid player towards the end of the first round.

i don’t think this is as bad as i first thought.  in the end, i think the rockets need to offload asik’s contract to any taker.  although i doubt they re-sign deng (for flexibility to re-sign parsons after next season), i think it opens the door for a veteran taking a year long contract to make a championship run this offseason.  the only thing i don’t like about the trade is i think terrance jones is really developing and acquiring deng would get rid of 2 disgruntled player, but may add 1 in jones in return.

I wouldn’t mind this.  We would make a playoff push and both Parsons and Deng can play the 4.  Luol Deng would be our best perimeter defender and would hopefully add a defensive mind-set to an average defensive team.

Motie doesn’t get much playing time and he doesn’t fit our play-style and tempo and Asik wants out.  I could do without the draft pick however.  Luol Deng will leave at season’s end and we’ll be out a draft pick in the 25-area, where NBA ready seniors and juniors are usually drafted (Adreian Payne).

Long term, it’s better to keep our pick.  Short term, we trade for Deng for one playoff run.

This would be a bad trade/resign because they already have Parsons and Harden at the SG and SF spot… Parson fit well with them. Deng would be another high paid player on that team. Parson is cheaper and has potential. salary cap of Harden, Howard and Deng would put them in salary cap hell. And Deng would not be efficient at pf either.
