“And with the ninth pick of the 2015 NBA draft, the Charlotte Hornets select, Devin Booker from The University of Kentucky.”

The Heat are now on the clock.

    Draft order so far
    1.Timberwolves: Karl-Anthony Towns
    2.Lakers: Jahlil Okafor
    3.76ers: D’Angelo Russell
    4.Knicks: Emmanuel Mudiay
    5.Magic: Kristaps Porzingis
    6.Kings: Willie Cauley-Stein
    7.Nuggets: Justise Winslow
    8.Pistons: Mario Hezonja
    9.Hornets: Devin Booker

Here are the results of the pick:
    Booker-14
    Johnson-13
    Oubre-6
    Turner-3
    Payne-1

Really close voting their, could you imagine being in the draft room with only minutes to make that pick!? Pretty much a BPA vs fit on that one. Oubre was also making his case with 6 votes.

Kelly Oubre. Rumor has it Heat are pretty interested in his upside… I guess every team is though.

I want them to take Oubre too. It’s the perfect landing spot for him and he’s worked out for them too, which I don’t think Stanley Johnson has done. They’ll probably take Johnson though since Riley hates projects.

I would love for Johnson to fall to the Jazz, but the unselfish part of me has to admit he would be a great fit for the Heat.

I see a lot of potential in him, great size, good blocking shot instincts, good touch.

    Let’s add a bit of weight and let’s see…

    I don’t like Stanley Johnson’s shooting form.

just curious riley, did you count the pick where the guy said "booker but only because i really want johnson to fall to the heat at 10 becasue thats my team" as a vote for booker? Kinda lame to openly admit you are picking one guy over the other becasue you want the better prospect to fall to your favorite team. I know we are all entitled to our opinions but i would have dismissed that vote.

ANyways, heat would be smart to let deng walk and i think they should go johnson here.

Plus a couple of other votes seemed quite "vague", actually.

So are you, like, calling for a recount or something?

I only count the vote, if I can clearly tell who they are voting for, and no I did not count the vote of the guy wanted the Hornets to draft Booker because he wants the Heat to take Stanley Johnson.

     Stanley Johnson.

Deng and Wade’s futures are both up in the air and Miami needs a shot of youth on the wing. Its a close call between him and oubre but I think Johnson is just a little more developed right now and is less of a risk.

Assuming the Heat keep Wade, Dragic and Deng, they will need to keep lanes to the basket open.  Whiteside is an important player, but maybe they can finish games with Bosh and Kaminsky as they can both shoot from outside.

Heat are in win now mode, so Kaminsky and his age and shot fit well.

Nothing wrong with the Stanley Johnson pick that is being made though.

I read somewhere on Bleacher Report that a lot of GM’s think Stanley Johnson’s offensive game is limited. I know that he produced at Arizona, but if a player is causing GM’s to worry about potential, he will most likely fall in the draft. I think Miami will look to back up their bigs. Chris Bosh is said to be healthy again, which is huge for Miami, but health concerns with him make me think they will be looking for a PF. My money is on Trey Lyles. A guy who can stretch the floor like Bosh, with boatloads of potential.

The Heat are blessed that the Hornets went with the less skilled,  less athletic, less defensive minded Booker over Johnson. It’s Christmas in Miami! They now get a better, more NBA ready player with far more potential in Stanley Johnson who will quickly be groomed to replace Deng at the 3. Also, if Wade leaves this summer he can start immediately at the 2.
