I really don’t think that Boston need another PF with Sullinger and Olynyk, but the BPA to me is between Lyles and Portis.

I think that the guy who fits best would be Jerian Grant, potential starter and can play alongside Smart or Thomas or Bradley.

Tricky. If I’m Boston in this situation, I am 100% trading up, trading down, or trading out. So therefore, even if there’s no deals directly on the table on the night, I’m taking Trey Lyles as the BPA by far, and worrying about how to trade him a month or two down the line – if I can’t flip him straightaway.

This is a tough one because I really like the fit of Portis in Boston. However, if Trey Lyles is on the board he is the better prospect.  I’d be surprised if he was still on the board at 16 and if he is I think Boston should pick him.

No doubt the Celts could use a PF, Bass is probably gone. But Sully can take that starting job. They’d really mostly be looking for depth there. Evan Turner filled in alright as SF, but the Celts are hanging their hat on persistent defense, and they are willing to accept offensive faults to get it. As raw as RHJ is offensively, he’s still a huge defensive upgrade over Evan Turner right off the bat, and Turner wasn’t exactly a particularly useful offensive player himself. They like him already can probably snag a high upside PF like McCullough with their 28th pick. I’m thinkin RHJ all the way.

No rim protectors are on the board and no one really that either fits or, more importantly, can play a part in their rebuilding project. So you try to take the best prospect available to hopefully package in a trade down the line. I’m split between Lyles and Looney but I’ll go with Lyles since he’s more polished.

Portis, sully can’t play all the minutes with his weight, so Portis can come in and help right away, i feel Portis is better fit for the team than Lyles…

Trey Lyles (BPA), but I believe if this is the situation the Celtics will trade up (using their other pick as well) or down.

     Bobby Portis.

The question was whether Portis could play center and if Lyles could play small forward.  Maybe both can do those things, but Portis has the size and stats that make him look like someone who could play in the paint for Boston.

This gets tricky. Celtics need rim protection but are unlikely to find that here. Portis, lyles and grant are probably the best available players but I don’t think any is a great fit here. They do need outside shooting and athleticism on the wing which is why I’m going with Anderson here if they keep the pick.

Sully and Zeller are in the last years of their contracts.

Portis can just about replace both/either of them if he had to.

Looney, RHJ, and Jerian Grant are all tempting picks here, as is Harrell.

Even though nobody is voting for him I like Rondae hollis-Jefferson here. I will put money on a team in the top 18 or so snagging him, Hes a vet for a college player, athletic, can score, can defend. Useful piece for any team.

I just have a hunch that Boston is the team that made the promise to Martin.  It seems it must be a team picking 14-18.  Alex Kennedy believes it’s the Bucks, but that goes against everything that John Hammond believes in and he isn’t a fit for what Jason Kidd is looking for either.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.  Danny Ainge gets sold on him being an Iggy type guy.

Bonus points: Boston buys a 2nd round pick to draft Danny Ainge clone baby Pat Connaughton, just like Danny Boy but with better hops.  AKA Air Ainge.

Trey Lyles. Brad Stevens was involved in the recruitment of Lyles after decommitting from Indiana, so he is quite familiar with Lyles being an Indianapolis kid. Lyles fits in well with Boston. Learning from Stevens would do him well as well in becoming the player he wants to become at the next level. To be honest Lyles at 16 is a steal even if some people aren’t sure what to make of him, he played out of position at Kentucky and with so many options surrounding him he wasn’t able to fully show what he is capable of. As a Pacers fan I would love for Lyles to be the pick at 11 and play in his hometown, so Boston fans should be thrilled if this were to happen at 16 barring any trades.

     This is the nightmare scenario.

If the C’s could trade say Sully and their later 2nd for the Wiz pick at 19 (who are looking for a young PF) then I’d feel better about taking Portis here.

This is the absolutely nightmare draft night scenario for the C’s.

I think they go shooter here. Hunter is probably a tad early.

So I’ll say they reach only 3 or 4 picks and go Justin Anderson, Virginia.

He will not fall in the top 15 for sure and may drop out of the top 20 on draft day. Too slow to guard any bigs but smart and savvy enough to play the high post if there is a beast down low to protect the rim. Perfect Celtic IMO.

This team is building an identity with gritty guys who go all out every play. They haven’t been shy about voicing their displeasure with Sully, so nothing is guaranteed with him. With no capable Centers left on the board here they go with Portis who fits right into everything they’re doing in Boston.
