As a Jazz fan…the thought of this turns my stomach. Yet…it’s seeming more and more likely that this scenario could play out on draft day. Monroe will be gone in the top six, and Udoh could go 7 or 8 (to the Pistons or Clippers). At that point, if the Jazz are still going to draft big…Aldrich would be the next in line. The only way at that point, to avoid such a calamity, would be if the Jazz liked a smaller player that was still on the board, better then Cole.

Aldrich is everything that we need in the frontcourt. Defense, defense, defense, rebounding, shotblocking and defense.

NBA journeyman. Your drafting a guaranteed future journeyman center with a top ten draft pick. A TOP TEN DRAFT PICK!!! Your not picking in the teens, or in the early 20’s, your drafting 9!!! Your not just drafting someone who can walk a straight line, and chew bubblegum at the same time. Though I do debate whether Cole could in fact do both those things at the same time, because he’s missing half his teeth and isn’t very coordinated.

You have never watched him play have you?

A dominate defensive center is what the Jazz need. Have you noticed that every team that has made it to the finals in the past few seasons has had a dominate defensive center?

So what he doesn’t score a lot of points. As long as he gets put-backs and D-Will is setting him up, he will be decent. Not that the Jazz need scoring anyway.

Any intelligent person on the site well tell you that Aldrich is going to be a stud in the NBA. On the Jazz, he could average 15, 12 and 3 when he replaces Memo.

Agreed to some degree. He might average closer to 10, 10, and 3 for a while because of the other options on the team, and his offense is unproven/needs work. Also, assuming Booze leaves, he will be playing alongside Millsap and Kirilenko a lot, and will not get as many rebounds because of it. That said the other team will get even fewer. His is good for 10 – 12 points off rebounds and assists from the pgs. If he gets those type numbers consistently, and seals off the lane he is more valuable than the 9th pick. He would complement Memo as Memo is offense and Aldrich is all defense (right now).

I’m glad you don’t evaluate talent for me!!! Aldrich will be a backup, roll player at best. Have you watched him shoot, his shot is terrible, the form of his shot is worse than Boozer’s and that is pretty bad. He doesn’t have the mobility to create anything for himself. He doesn’t have any hops, He doesn’t weigh nearly enough to bang with NBA centers, he may have guts and desire but that won’t cut it, The only thing going for him is he tries hard and he has long arms that have allowed him to be somewhat effective in college but the pros are a different game. He weighs 234 lbs or something close to that, he is 6’10 , which is too short be compete considering his lack of athleticism, KK weighs 265 +, Fes 300 both are about the same age as Aldrich and both have more potential than he does.
What is it he does so well that you love him so much.
The only reason I could see the Jazz taking Aldrich is if they have decided to give up on Fes.
Aldrich would be doing exactly what KK has done for the last couple of years, riding the bench. KK is a bette offensive player, more mobile, bigger, taller. more potential.
Where have you read this BS that Aldrich is going to be a stud in the NBA.

He doesn’t need to shoot, he doesn’t need mobility to create for himself he just uses his stength and hook shot. While I don’t think he will be a stud he will be a starter and a pretty good center.

Where did you get your eye for talent? The only draft pick I would be more upset with than Aldrich would be if they pick Hayward.
Aldrich doesn’t have much strength, he weighs 234lbs, only 10 reps, where is his strength?
The NBA is a lot different than the NCAA. bigs are a lot bigger, stronger, more athletic in the NBA.

Aldrich is going to be a 10-15 year guy who plays his heart out every play. And thats all the Jazz need is a big who will work hard play D and rebound. And the guy is not dumb! I think i remember hearing he was getting a 3.4 GPA. And so what if he does not become a superstar? He will be good and Udoh is more then likely going to be a bust! I would rather have a guy who i know what im getting instead of a guy who may never reach half his potential!

Didn’t the Jazz get spanked by the Lakers in the playoffs because they have no Bigs? I know Okur was out – but he’s not a traditional center anyways – and personally I have little use for 7 footers that prefer to hang out behind the 3 point line.

At worst, Aldrich is a B Haywood/J Pryzbilla kinda dude – who should be a 10/10/2 guy fairly early in his career. He may not be the sexiest pick, but I think he’d be a smart, safe pick for Utah.

I see Aldrich as a poor mans Andrew Bogut with less passing abillity and size.

Never underestimate this dude… I tell you right now JazzSLC… If he does get chosen by Utah, then they know what they’re doing… He’s going to provide that low post needs especially when Okur remains unhealthy… I like Aldrich because of his size and strength… Yes, you can say he doesn’t have the athleticism that a guy like DeAndre Jordan or Dwight Howard possesses but his basketball IQ makes up for that… He’s going to help Utah sooner than later..

Is dominant. Far from it. And yes…I watched Kansas play probably close to a dozen times in all during Aldrich’s “glorious” career…I’m very familiar with his game. And to say I’m not impressed about what he can bring to the table as a pro in a tremendous understatement. Pryzbilla could eat his lunch. The really good centers won’t even know he’s on the floor trying to guard them. I can see Gasol running around him like he’s not even there.

Seems like a great pick. If the Kings were at the 8-10 spot, I would want them to pick him.

Off Topic but, what do people mean by “Poor Man’s Bogut” or “Rich Man’s Lewis”? I don’t know what it means.

Anytime someone uses the term “Poor Man’s” to describe a player it is an insult. It is saying that they are similar in some respects as the player mentioned but inferior. In essence stating that you can’t afford the Lamborghini so here’s a Pinto instead.

Thanks. I don’t think Cole will be like Bogut. Bogut is a good offensive weapon , Cole just seems like what Jon Brockman could have been if he was taller. A banger who can alter shots in the paint.

I can’t believe all the Aldrich fans, what is it that you like about this kid? He will work hard, I will give him that but he isn’t strong like alot of you are saying, he is short for a center, he has a terrible shot, He has a long wingspan that has allowed him to block shots in college but I’m not sure it will translate over to the NBA.
You guys need to listen to the Jazz top scout Walt Perrin’s evaluation of Udoh, he has alot more going for him than Aldrich believe me.

Aldrich is 6’11.25" with a 9’3.5" standing reach. He has a very strong lower-body. Nobody pushed him around in college.

Whiteside, Udoh, Monroe, Davis, Sanders — all of these players were pushed around in college.

If Aldrich is too weak for the NBA than so is everybody else in this draft range… (Besides DeMarcus Cousins and Daniel Orton)

The guy can block shots, run the floor and is tough. He’ll be a more mobile version of Ostertag who, like him or not, was a valuable contributor to the Jazz for years. Yes, he has an orthodox shot, as does Boozer, but that shot is damn near impossible to block from straight on. He’ll be a good defender to match up against traditional centers.

Your right everybody else is too weak except Cousins and Orton, and the biggest thing your missing is Aldrich is a center and we need to fill Boozers spot and draft a 4, and there are several 4’s that are better than Aldrich. He is only 6’11 1/4 with his platform shoes he wore. He’s 6’9″ barefoot, if you give him what most everyone else got for their shoes he would be 6’10” 1/4., That’s pretty short for a center. If he had great skills and athleticism for his height then maybe you say OK he can make up for his lack of height and skills but he doesn’t have those qualities and he just isn’t good enough to use the #9 pick on, when there are other players more talented , more athletic, and that would fill a greater need.
I wouldn’t mind drafting Aldrich if there weren’t talented, quality players available at the 4 spot that fill a greater need for the Jazz. Until I see more from Aldrich, I’m not buying that he is better than Fes or KK, if fact until I see different I think would sit behind them if we picked him. Like I said unless the Jazz decide to not sign Fes, drafting Aldrich doesn’t make sense. Of course I’m not sure some of you guys are into making sense of your choices.

Why are you trying to fill the 4 spot? Is Utah going to lose Boozer and Milsap?

It is very likely that the Jazz won’t resign Boozer. For several reasons, First he is going to want a raise and want near max money, to sign him would put the Jazz way over the salary cap and cripple management as far as making other moves. If the Jazz signed Booz to the kind of contract he wants they would also have to pay dollar for dollar in penalty because of being over the salary cap, that would end up being like 15 mil more, Booz isn’t worth that. Second , Although Booz is very good, he has shown he can’t matchup against Gasol, Garnett, Duncan, etc. so resigning him would keep us in the same ol same ol hole we are in now plus cripple us financially. We need to address the fact we are short and not long enough at the 4 spot, both Booz and Milsap are good but too short to complete with the taller, longer Gasol’s, Garnett’s and Duncan’s of the league.
All that being said is why I hope we draft Udoh, or Monroe, both would play the 4 and are taller, longer and very skilled. Udoh likes defense and is a very good shotblocker.
Patterson is a quality 4 but not quite as tall or as long.
