I love the NBA, and I love this forum. This site is one of the top 4 destinations for me when I get on the www’s.

What I love most about nbadraft.net is that we all love basketball. Not just the product on the court, but front office moves / draft processes / stats / X’s & O’s…… the whole boat. Furthermore, most on this forum have insightful & well-thought out takes on not just their favorite teams…. but many other squads unrelated to their fandom. Very cool.

    I’ve had many opinions over the years that i’ve shared on this site. And one things for sure, for all of the positions I’ve had that turned out to be right…. i’ve had an equal amount of takes that would have got me fired as a GM! Haha. Some of my hits & misses;

    • Prior to draft, labeled Hasheem Thabeet as an overrated stiff – HIT
    • Elfrid Payton would be the next Gary Payton – MISS
    • Mario Hezonja is too 1-dimensional to be a top 5 pick – HIT
    • After rookie contract, Ben McLemore will be a top-10 shooting guard – MISS

The point I’m trying to make is, I’ve been wrong about sht and I still feel comfortable sharing opinions on this site because ya’ll seem to appreciate thoughtful content, and aren’t jaded by a misguided thought or two.

I’ve seen a thread like this in the past…… and whoever came up with it…. shout to you. But let’s re-initiate.

What are some of your imfamous "I told you so" moments, and on the flip side of the coin… takes that turned out to be brutally off?

When I told iggy that Derozan would develop into a much better player than Richard Jefferson and would be the greatest Raptor in team history. Hit!

WHen I argued Dragan Bender would be successful no matter what due to his pedigree and work ethic. Miss!

Theres so many for me I have like 10000 posts.

I thought Joe Alexander would be a stud. One of the freakiest athletes ever in a league of freaky athletes. But… he had multiple injuries and showed a lack of will = BIG MISS

Kristaps Porzingis- I said he wuld be a stud and was looking good… until the dunk on Giannis changed everything. = TOO SOON TO TELL

Michael Redd- Thought he was a big steal in the 2nd. Boy was I right. = BIG HIT

Mudiay- Saw him in HS many times, thought he was a game changer. He destroyed other 5 star players like they were nothing. WTF.

Victor Oladipo- Said he would be a stud. Was one of 2 best perimeter defenders in his class with carzy hops and plus offensive upside. Took him a minute, but he panned out big time.

Russ Smith- Really thought he would be a career 2nd unit microwave/defensive pest. Good (great?) one on one defender, handles, and a nasty streak. Problem was possibly overblown accusations of boneheadedness and improv. I loved him and still do, but NBA-wise =HUGE MISS

Until now I don’t know why I was so high on James Young and that he could be a legit 20 ppg scorer. BIG MISS.

I never bought in to the Thon Maker hype. He is the epitome of a player who looks beastly on specific highlights but if you actually watch a full game of his in the NBA or in HS even, he lacks so much feel for the game. HIT

Trey Burke would be the next CP3. MISS. I actually thought he had a nice showing last season in NYC though and could compete for the starting job.

Mitch McGary would be David Lee 2.0. MISS

I was higher on Caris Levert than a lot of people, and he is turning out to be a real baller. HIT

I thought Jaylen Brown would be a stud. Hit

Thought Kendal Marshall would be better than Lillard. Big miss!

I thought the Spurs were  old and washed up after 2006. Miss

Preficted Draymond would be high level NBA player. Hit

I was spot on with Devin Booker. I thought he was projected way too low. Everything about his offensive game said he was going to be really good. I wanted the Heat to take him at 10, but I thought he should have gone higher.

Kristaps Porzingis will be the second best, or even the best player in his draft – HIT

I thought Earl Clark from Louisville was gonna be the next Rudy Gay, and Terrance Williams the next Gerald Wallace – BIG MISSES

Had faith in Jahlil Okafor being the anti to the smallball movement – so far a MISS but he’s wayy too young and talented to not at least play the Al Jefferson/Kanter role off someones bench

I always thought Terrance Ross was overrated coming out, he was a dunker/3pt shooter ONLY with really low BBIQ – HIT

I still compare Thon Maker to Jermaine O’Neal…he was basically two yrs away from being 2 yrs away when he was drafted so this one is still PENDING

Wendell Carter being a top 3 player from this draft – PENDING

Definite miss for me. I really liked him when he was traded to the Magic from Phoenix……

Lottery selection (#14 pick) with career 4.4 pts on 40.3% FG….. Yuck!

Earl Clark was a complete enigma, he had all the tools but could never put it together. Saw him play at Louisville a few times and it was crazy how fluid he was, handles like a guard at 6-10 and could really pass but he was just too passive and it seemed like his confidence was shot once he got to the league

said Hejoza all time overrated as a prospect and should not be a first rounder – hit

said Bender should not be a lottery pick, too soft and unproven and too project – hit

said Fultz is overrated, nothing speicel and should not be a top pick – hit

said before the draft Draymond is overlook bigtime and would be great player – kinda missed(he became a generational talent type player)

said Even Turner is the next big thing at SG position – big miss

I remember busting my buddy’s chops about this seemingly slow, left handed Argentinian guy that everyone was so hyped about. I told him that guy would never be a star, he was a 10th man at best. Some guy named Emmaule Ginoble I think his name was… 🙂

    Miss!

Hassan Whiteside, whose stock was rapidly declining before the 2010 draft, would prove everyone wrong and end up being a top 5 player in his draft class (Hit – you’ve got Cousins, Wall, George, Hayward and then Whiteside)

Otto Porter would be the best player in the 2013 class (Miss – there’s the Greek Freak, Oladipo, McCollum and Gobert)

Jimmer Fredette, while good in college, would not be worth a top 10 pick (Hit – but also kind of a miss because I also thought he would at least be a career rotation player)

If Jan Vesely and Kawhi Leonard were both available with the 6th pick in 2011, the Wizards couldn’t go wrong with either player, but Vesely would likely be better (MAJOR miss)

The Bulls should’ve taken Beasley over Rose (Miss due to Rose’s early NBA career, but also kind of a hit given who has more market value right now)

The Magic were dumb to take Dwight Howard, a high-risk/high-reward player, over Emeka Okafor, a proven college talent destined for NBA stardom. (Miss)

After Darius Miles rookie year I predicted he would be a generational – type talent and that clippers squad would win a ring! WOW!

On a side note: Vince carter was drafted 2 years before Darius Miles…. let that sink in!

Eric Gordon vs OJ Mayo – Back when this was a major topic of discussion, I always said Gordon was the better player and would have the better career.

Brandon Roy’s career – I predicted his career would fall apart, due to injury, when he was at the top of his game.

Gordon Hayward – I was the only user on this site who believed he’d be a high level NBA player. I had to argue with several users who thought Xavier Henry, Luke Babbitt, Damion James, Quincy Pondexter and even Devin Ebanks would be better. There were users who actually had him as a second round pick.

LeBron’s ability to make great players better – I was questioning this long before it became an actual conversation in the media, on social media, etc.

I thought ORL should take Omeka Okafor over Dwight Howard smh.

I thought Evan Turner had superstar potential & it was actually close between him & John Wall.

The Wall vs Turner one is a good one. I remember thinking that since the Wizards had Arenas, it didn’t make sense to go with Wall even though he was the better prospect. Glad the Wizards knew better.

Some of the draft sleepers I like to hang my hat on.

I’m a stats guy and Paul George did everything in college. Over 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in his final college season. I thought he would go a little higher on draft day and his career has gone as expected.

Markannen has a lot to prove still but after one year in the league he has shown that he can contribute in a big way. My taller less athletic Gordon Hayward comp is probably a long way off but he seems way ahead of Ryan Anderson who he was most often compared to.

Knox and Sexton are two rookies who I think will be big hits in the league. They had some people projecting them outside of the lottery which I thought was absurd. No surprises seeing them top 10 and I think both could be top 5 at their positions one day.

The dumbest wave to pass through this site was the Bismack Biyombo hype. So dumb.

He was getting compared to Kevin Garnett, Ben Wallace and Dwight Howard.

I remember BTPH would have to constantly kill Biyombo threads. Thats when I realized he/she is likely the most informed user on this site.

I compared Biyombo to Joel Anthony. HIT!

To be fair, Biyombo was a pretty valuable contributor on that 15-16 Raptors team. Got super overpaid afterward, but he showed that in the right situation he could have a big impact. I don’t know why anyone would compare him to KG, though. Their games are nothing alike and his offensive ceiling was never that high.
