Someone tweeted that Amare Stoudemire should come back stronger and quicker next year.  Amare responded with a gay slur.  Look, this has got to stop.  The whole homophobic cultrue in this country has gotten embarrassing.  Stop being ignorant and insensitive.  I know these guys are superstar athletes, but many aren’t superstar people.  Unfortunatley kids look up to these guys just because of their athletic prowess.  Their should be a mandatory fine for all gay slurs spoken and a mandatory suspensions during the season.  Welcome to 2012.  Hopefully we’ll live in a world of tolerance one day, but for now, grow the f up Amare.

Not everyone has to like gay people. I have no idea what he said, but he can certainly say whatever he wants too.

Wow that is crazy considering all the name calling most of the poster in here say to each other and you are trying to single out a group and say no one should say anthing about them. lol that is funny.

Something I don’t get… An athlete says the N word on twitter, nobody cares…  An athlete says a gay slur and in comes all of the organizations…

In my opinion everyone needs to grow up, don’t use slurs against ANYONE, and if someone does, GET OVER IT.

I hope the world ends in December, that way we don’t have to put up with either side of this crap.

How come it’s considered HATE to call a homosexual a fag but its not hate to call a Muslim a terrorist?  Basically the media plants seeds into peoples heads about what’s ok and what’s not.  Like Pac said…how hypocritcal is liberty

apparently someone tweeted to amare "you better come back quicker and stronger next year to make up for , this past season" and amare responded with "f*&k you i dont have to do anything f@g"

On a personal level, I could care less that he said this. However it’s not smart to say the least. The NBA is all about public image and you better beleive he just cost himself some money from mr stern. When you are in the public spotlight and your words and actions reprsent an organization and a league, you gotta be smarter then getting trolled on twitter

@mookie, if you call a homo sexual person a f@g, that is hate. In this case amare was just saying it to some dumb fan so its not really a hate word since it wasnt directed at a homo sexual. But calling muslims terrorists is also hate, im not sure where you heard it wasnt

Llperez…i agree it should be offensive and considered hate but trust me when I tell you people don’t care.  I have alot of Muslim friends and I was with them at airports, having em as roommates and goin to school.  I cant tell you how many times I seen in front of cops or homeland security my friends vein called terrorists and we don’t need "your kind" here in America and officials did nothing.  There was even once when I was at a friends and someone broke their window yellin and screaming at them call in em terrorists and that he’s gonna kill my roommates.  The cops were called and never filed a report.  Stating dude was intoxicated.  He went to jail and I swear within2 hrs he was released and back to living 2 houses down talk smack

Mookie of course officials did nothing for calling them names. We have this thing called the Constitution with a Bill of Rights. You should read the first one on that bill.

Just because you find something unethical doesn’t mean it is illegal. They are VERY different, and they should remain VERY different.

It really saddens me to see how unaware people are. They want the government involved in everything. "He called me a [insert any word that upsets you] arrest him."

This is a little off topic, but this country was founded on the power of the people, and government here to represent us and keep us safe, not run our lives.

In the past the norm would be to say the NBA shouldn’t be able to fine him, it’s his right to speak his mind. Now I see this sh!t? !

sooo sports ninja…i’m out of touch with people huh?  Im a psychiatrist.  A licensed practicing physician.  And I’m out of touch? I guess when I take the stand to give a psychological assessment of someone as an expert..im really out of touch.

now on to your other statements…when someone’s life is threatened its my job as a physician to do something about it.  Threatening to kill someone while shouting you terrorists after breaking their window and continuoulsy trying to break down the door  to come in  isn’t hate??????

Im cool with everyone and open minded.  But racisit is racist and a hate crime is a hate crime.

    People are missing the point.

Someone asked why people get upset at the word f@g but not when someone uses the n word.

Look at the context he used the gay slur in.  It is clear that he is automatically putting a negative conotation with that word when he calls him a f@g.  Most people today use the n-word almost in a brotherly fashion "What up my n****" and so forth while f@g is used as a derrogatory statement towards many.  I have had friends whom not only take offense, but get rather depressed that a word regarding their sexuality has such a negative meaning in the world.  It’s the same thing with retarded.  Around your group of friends their is no problem with the word but in public you have to be more considerate.  It can really bother someone who has struggled with the REAL LIFE mental disease.  Like I said use these words at your own discretion around people you feel comfortable around.  But when you’re a public figure (ala Amare) you have to take public perception into account and that is why it was wrong.  Just be sensible people and be respectful.  It’s not that hard to alter your vocabulary by a couple words.  Words can do damage man.

For me this just shows bad judgement on Amare’s part…Professional athletes can’t get away with anything so he should have known not to put himself in a compromising position like that …damn near everyone says "fag" lol including me, and in that context it doesn’t even mean gay person…w. that being said that fan is gay for leaking that message lol

Mookie- did you have to take a comprehension reading test to become a psych? I hope you listen better than you read.

Find a line where I said you were out of touch with people.

Secondly-  "I cant tell you how many times I seen in front of cops or homeland security my friends vein called terrorists and we don’t need "your kind" here in America and officials did nothing. There was even once when I was at a friends and someone broke their window yellin and screaming at them call in em terrorists and that he’s gonna kill my roommates."

Read your first sentence in that quote. I responded to that sentence, not the "once" story that followed.

Man can say what he wants. They were never slaves or killed relentlessly fo being gay. Its not a civil rights issue its not. They were never told to ride the back of the bus or drink from different fountains. You and them need to give the discriminated oppressed talk a rest. They are not victims.

     I think its completely overblown…

players are human beings, they should be able to say whatever they want. This country has become so sensitive to so many silly comments and words that have no substance behind them. Its f@g…everyone hears that word all the time and no one is offended. Hell, alot of gay people aren’t even offended. Their is a lesbian in the hip hop group Odd Future, where you have Tyler the Creator and others using gay slurs all the time…but it doesn’t actually mean anything at the end of the day. Get over yourselves, Amare can say whatever he wants.

calling anybody anything negative is hate.  I can’t stand these stupid moral derisions.  I am pretty sure if I called on you posters on here stupid that would be hate.  It definitely would not be love.  Young people quit falling for this media agenda.  Some of you are following this like all of a sudden this new stuff is true.  This stuff was not going on in the 80’s 90’s.  This whole movement is a bunch of BS.  He was dumb was saying what he said but at the same time, people get mad and say dumb stuff all the time.

I don’t care how much money you make, it does not change the fact that you are a imperfect human prone to poor judgement.  Most of the poster on this site would have said worst and more frequent stuff than he did.
