Since the Bucks declined Joe Alexander’s option for the 2010-11 season, he would welcome a trade out of Milwaukee.

“They made it pretty clear that they don’t see me having a future here,” said Alexander, the No. 8 pick in the 2008 draft. “So I’m assuming a trade would definitely be one of the options.”

Alexander then was asked if he would welcome a trade.

“I mean, yeah,” he said. “If they don’t want me, if they don’t see a future with me here, that really is the only other option.”

John Hammon said “absolutely” there’s a chance he could be re-signed for next season.

“We’re hoping that once he becomes healthy he can help our team,” Hammond said of this season. “His job is to help us win games. And we hope he is capable of doing that.”

I dont know if Alexander is in a bad situation or if his skills don’t translate to the NBA like we thought it would….I haveta believe he can play in this league….Look at his combine numbers, he put up the best numbers in the history of the combine and has a good mid-range game….Perhaps a change of scenery would suit him but he needs to produce soon or he will be a bust

yeah but combine numbers dont always trasnlate to the nba..jordan farmar also had great combine numbers but hes a average nba player…..joe has always been considered very raw in my book with his only nba ability being his ability to jump high..other then that everything else is below average

i thinks the bucks were using him wrong, they pretty much signed hakim warrick to do his job, alexander is not a small forward he’s one of those hybrid athletes, i think that on the right team he can be a good player, he can play in the post, has a nice mid range game, his athletic and maybe the most important thing with him is he’s tough, he’s a hustler.

Let’s go back in time when Milwaukee drafted Alexander, please note that management knew he was a long term project. Even though Alexander had lot’s of potential, many people questioned Milwaukee taking him so high because he lacked experience.

Joe Alexander’s been playing basketball only for a few years so he doesn’t have the understanding and knowledge guys who’ve been playing the game almost all of their lives have. In light of that, I’m wondering why Scott Skiles gave up on him so quickly. Is it because he doesn’t think Alexander isn’t good enough? Is there a personality conflict between the two of them? Or is there something else in play such as financial matters? Hmmmmmmmmm, I’d really like to know.

As for the comment about his low basketball IQ, that might be the case, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I believe his understanding of the game is hampered by his lack of experience.

Whatever is going on, I think it’s clear the young man has a ton of potential and some team with more patience might really benefit from Milwaukee’s lack of interest in him.

I also think it’s interesting when Milwaukee is praised for taking Brandon Jennings and criticized for taking Alexander.

Oh okay, I get exactly what you’re saying. I didn’t understand the point you were trying to make in your original post, but now I get you. I agree. I’m a big believer in waiting to see a body of work before making any judgements. We now live in a basketball world where everyone wants to predict outcomes as early as possible.

The answer to your question is obvious, one guy’s done nothing while the other looks like a ROY candidate. I guess it was more of a rhetorical question in that we always look at the short term view as opposed to how someone does over a few years. In other words, last year the Milwaukee GM was taking heat for drafting Alexander so high and this year everyone is showering praise on him because he took Jennings after other teams in the top ten passed on him. I think my point is that unless they do something truly stupid, we need to judge a GM on his body of work over a few years before we criticize and/or praise them and that includes Hammond in Milwaukee.

In my opinion, Minnesota fit the criteria this year for doing something stupid. Why in the world would you take two PGs back to back when you have so many pressing needs on your team?

As a Mountaineer, I hate to see all this going on with Joe. I think that he defiantly needs a change of scenery though. My thing is, right now, nobody is going to trade him unless they are looking to add a million dollars to their FA money for next year. As of now, nobody who signs him is going to resign him next year. I think he needs to get healthy and show he can play before he starts asking for a trade. Right now, I cant think of a team that would want him. To most people, he is an athlete and nothing beyond that. I would love to see this guy go the Celtics and learn to play behind Pierce. Since Pierce is getting older, his minutes need be reduced and as of now, they really dont have a SF. Danniels is more of a SG and so are Giddens and Tony Allen. Walker will eventually try to replace him but I dont see it happening. Another team I would love to see him play for is a team that really values guys that play “out of control.” Im not talking about a team like the Warriors because they truly are out of control. A team that loves guys that tend to play too fast for other teams,the prime example is, the Suns. Not the Knicks because they, like the Warriors, are truly out of control. He needs a team that is fast with structure. Alexander, not having the greatest IQ, needs to be told where to go by a guy like Nash or Hill. They could turn him into Sean Marion and truly utilize his skills.

There’s a million guys oozing potential who if they were “only in the right situation” would break-out. About 99.9% of those guys oozing potential are in much better situations than Alexander is right now, and will continue to be in a better situation than him next year. This guy is a dime a dozen…Nothing stands out with him really except he can dunk. He should be playing in Europe or on the And1 tour, lol.
