Reptilian MonkParticipantAl Horford has reached a verbal agreement to a 4 year, 113 million dollar deal with the Celtics. Great move for the Celtics, Horford is a great veteran addition, former All Star to a good young defensive minded Celtics team on the rise. This deal puts them in the top group of teams that can challenge the Cavs in the East. Great Move, Appealing to somone like Durant as well.

machu46ParticipantThe East is still a one team conference unless Durant follows.

HitsterParticipantHorford has given them an interesting shot at KD,already a 48 win team, add in Horford, Jaylen Brown to that and it gets stronger. KD pushes them to possibly 60 wins. Could KD’s thinking be that out East the Celtics would probably only have Cavs to contend against rather than a loaded Western Conference.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantDont forget they also have the Nets pick next year in a very strong lottery AND in 2018. If they hit on ONE of those two draft picks, look out…

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHorford is a nice addition. The thinking here has to be that hopefully he can convince another star to want to join them via free agency or trade within the next year (although I still don’t think this improves their stance much in the kd sweepstakes). Horford alone makes them better but won’t put them over the top in the east. They are still firmly a level below the cavs and the other elite teams in the west but they will no doubt be in the conversation for the teams expected to challenge for the 2nd seed in the east heading into the season. Although he is getting paid superstar money, horford does not have a superstar ego and is a great teammate who should fit in perfectly with the culture in place in Boston. However, it’s important to remember that horford, while a solid player, is not the type of player that will put them over the top and has reached the point in his career where he has peaked and will not likely get better or even continue to play at the same level as this contract plays out. Factor that all in (along with his injury history), and it’s a slightly risky but calculated move for the Celtics.

circumlocution75Participanthere comes the But — He’s 30 – 6’10” – averages 15 pts & 7 rebounds the last 3 years – he did develop a 3 pt shot at 29 which is impressive
But, I think Atlanta is very happy to have Dwight Howard replace Horford.
Now if Kevin Durant signs with Boston – then I think the Al Horford signing is an All time great signing
& even if KD does not sign with Boston, Horford is an Upgrade – but he’s not a Huge upgrade – & w/o KD Boston is still in that pack of 3 or 4 teams WAY behind Cleveland.

llperezHe’s nice and improves the team. But I’m not popping champagne to sign him for 28 mill a season making him one of the top 5 paid players in the game.

OhCanada-ParticipantThis is great I’m so happy. Even know divisional competitions is being phased out I love the fact that the Atlantic is becoming more competitive. Brooklyn signed Evelyn Lin and Booker T to get thier studio more views. Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens are slowly getting the Celtics back to contention on the East. Toronto will need alot of improvement to still be the #2 team out East this year after losing thier low key hero Biyambo. I’ve watched this sport all my life routing for T-Dot but I’ve never had this type of jitters and anxiety to see how well we would do against competition.

ChoppyParticipantI want to hear T-Rex’s thoughts on this signing… How will it impact the great Kelly Olynyk?

Hype MachineGreat signing. Al Horford plays at a difference making level.Hawks not necessarily worse if Howard is healthy and motivated.
I grade this an ‘A’ for the Celtics
‘B+’ for the Hawks for smart, almost portland-like scrimmaging during draft and free agency period when things could have gotten ugly.

kobyzParticipantReally wanted him on the wizards where he would have been the perfect fit and need, and would have solve a lot for them being able to play in big lineup as a four along with Gortat or smaller more spacing lineup at the five long side the Morris tween…

machu46ParticipantI get that Horford is a good player; I’ve always thought he was underrated. But then I see all these media guys talking like this signing is on the level of LeBron signing with Miami and stuff… I just don’t get THAT level of excitement. One of the NBA writers with SBNation was saying that this "changes everything" for the Celtics since they finally got the star player they’ve been looking for.
I like Horford, but I have a hard time seeing him as a star at this point in his career. I see him more as like a #3 guy on a contender. It’s a nice addition but they certainly aren’t title contenders without Durant. With Durant, I still think they’re #2 in the East, and in my estimation, they’d probably be #4 or 5 in the NBA, but I’d still put them a tier below the Warriors, Cavs, and Spurs.

BKGingerSnapParticipantFor those of you complaining about the size of the contract, remember, before the Hordford signing, the Celtics had about 13 players on the roster and 55 million in cap space so its not like they could spread the money around to a bunch of people. Hopefully the remaining 28 million in cap space is used up on Durant. Otherwise they should just roll over the space till next season.

nill650ParticipantGood signing, should fit well into their Mediocre system just like he did in ATL.
Boston is better for it, but he is no allstar, regardless of some clutch performances here and there during his career, I think Boston Faithful are going to be disappointed if they think this makes them a contender
