Danny Ainge was in Greece to personally scout Greek basketball player Giannis Adetokoubo. After watching him play, Ainge told the media that Adetokoubo is like a young Scottie Pippen.

In the latest installment of “Catch a Rising Star,” Boston Celtics president Dany Ainge traveled to Greece to get a first-hand look at Giannis Adetokunbo, the 6-foot-10 point guard who is moving up draft boards by leaps and bounds.

Ainge was in the house — and got heckled by Lakers fans — as Adetokunbo scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and had two steals in the championship round of the Greek A2 league.

Ainge also saw the CSKA – Panathinaikos Euroleague game, and was quoted by Greek media as comparing Adetokunbo as reminding him of a young Scottie Pippen.

Also, the latest words in Greece is that Adetokoubo’s agent is being told by NBA teams that he will probably go in the top 5-10 of the draft if he stays in.

I’m not doubting this guy can play, but if Ainge really thought he was that good he would not say it to the media, he would keep his cards close and hope he slides.

Is he really 6’10? I had it in my head that he was a 6’6 SG type guy.

The Pippen comparison is interesting, maybe he just means defensively?

There have been reports in Greece of him being measured at 207 cm and also being measured at 208 cm. 207 cm = 6’9 ½” and 208 cm = 6’10”

you also have to remember a young scottie pippen wasn’t exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread. He had defensive potential, he was long, and athleticism…but I dont believe anyone would have thought he would have developed into arguably the greatest defender of all time. So when he gets compared to a young scottie pippen I don’t believe that the comparison is being thrown around too easily.

I have watched some full games of Adetokoubo, and I must say he is project, not much further along in his development than many of the players in the All-America game on thursday. He is completely untested against top competition. He has a lot of talent, but he has a lot of work to do to become an effective NBA player.

With that said, he is probably one of the most talented players his age in the country and can only get so much better playing where he is now. Jumping to the NBA is probably the right move. I just hope his growth isn’t stunted by riding the pine early in his career.

For me it is really hard to evaluate him as a player, the Nike Hoop Summit would have been a good stage to see how he coped with the rest of the players in his age group…it will be interesting to see what team takes him in draft.
