Turnabout is fair play. The Charlotte Bobcats took a chance on Kwame Brown, a failed high lottery pick whom Michael Jordan drafted for the Wizards, so now the Wizards have done the same with a former Bobcats flameout. According to two league sources, Adam Morrison has accepted a training camp invitation to the Wizards.
Morrison, whom Jordan selected with the 3rd overall pick of the 2006 draft, is hoping to work his way back into relevance after being an afterthought the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Morrison’s career hasn’t been the same since suffering a season-ending knee injury before his second season in Charlotte. He has career averages of 7.5 points and 2.1 rebounds, but has missed 83 games in Charlotte and Los Angeles the past two seasons.
He has won two championships with the Lakers, but in an interview last July, Morrison expressed a desire to get back on the court. He worked out for several teams in Las Vegas, including the Wizards, and an individual workout with Coach Flip Saunders. “I haven’t played basically in two years, so I’m just looking for a place to get some quality minutes and try to get back in that rhythm again,” Morrison said in Las Vegas.
Morrison worked out for the Boston Celtics last week, but selected the Wizards because he hopes to find that rhythm in Saunders’s offense, according to a league source. The same source said Morrison worked out at Verizon Center on Tuesday.
The Wizards have just 12 players under contract and president Ernie Grunfeld has mentioned that two or three roster spots could be available in training camp. The training camp roster has yet to be completed, but Morrison, big man Sean Marks, Cartier Martin, Lester Hudson, Mardy Collins and Kevin Palmer have all accepted invitations. Second-round pick Hamady Ndiaye will also participate after taking the Wizards’ non-guaranteed tender.
Training camp begins on Sept. 28.

knicksfan7ParticipantBTPH, I am loving the updates. I just don’t see that if Morrison makes the team him getting minutes consistently, even if it is only 10 minutes per game.

McDunkinBTPH…your kind of making me useless around here since you have been taking my update job man
and i think Morrison should really give Europe a shot to show teams that he still has it on offense

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIf he can get in the right system Morrison can help a team off the bench…
but the Wizards are stacked at small forward…

Raef LaFrentzParticipantCrud..
I wanted the Wolves to get Mr. Morrison. 🙁
But that’s okay that the Wiz are giving him a shot. I hope he wows at training camp.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI don’t think it is complicated what the Wizards are doing. They’ll let Ndiaye go to camp and battle Marks for the third center spot. They’ll see if either Hudson or Collins can offer anything as a fifth guard. The same for Morrison and Martin as the third small forward. It is probably an uphill battle for Morrison as Martin was with them last year, but it seems like his best option. Unless Morrison somehow shows himself to be a better shooter than he has over the past five years, I don’t think he’ll make the team.

goneParticipantI like Cartier Martin more

ghettosermonParticipantI think it’s pretty clear with their play in summer league that Lester Hudson and Cartier Martin are near locks for 2 of those spots. As for the 3rd spot it’s up in the air but I highly doubt it’s Morrison. The Wiz are already a young run and gun trigger happy team they have no need for Morrison and his zero defense. N’diaye might have the edge because he is a draft pick but Keivn Palmer might sneak in there even though they are guard heavy because of his defensive potential.

JNixonParticipantN’Diaye looked lost in the Summer League. He’s also not good offensively. If I’m the Wizards, I keep Martin or Hudson. Morrison has a chance though over Martin. It will be an interesting (maybe if you like 12th man battles) battle between the 2.

ghettosermonParticipantThey could send N’diaye to the D-league instead of having someone like Morrison rotting in his suit at the end of the bench.
