I’m going bold, and saying that the Jazz will find a way to get Jameer Nelson from the Magic to play for the Jazz this offseason. I don’t how it will happen whether it be via a 2 or 3 team trade, claiming off the waiver wire, or Magic waive him because they can’t find a way to trade him, and then Utah picks him up, but I do think strongly that Jameer Nelson will come to the Jazz in some way. And here’s why:

Jazz are always wanting to build their young players behind some solid veterans. Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap mentored Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors. Brandon Rush somewhat mentored Alec Burks. John Lucas III mentored Trey Burke. Richard Jefferson and Marvin Williams mentored Gordon Hayward. John Lucas III is having a little of a falling out in Utah. He didn’t really do too well in his first season with the Jazz. The Jazz struggled putting him in at starting PG for the start of the season when Trey Burke was hurt. And then shortly before Trey Burke returned, Jazz picked up another young point guard off the D-league in Diante Garrett. And he became the backup PG to Burke instead of Lucas. So the Jazz need to find someone else to mentor Trey Burke, and ultimately new draftee Dante Exum.

I reckon that Jameer Nelson would be a great veteran for Trey Burke and Dante Exum to learn from. Neither of those players will of course become the next Jameer Nelson, but just to learn from a veteran that can pass the ball well, and has had some playoff success and some growing pains in the NBA is very valuable for young guys to learn from and ultimately have success too in the league.

Okay I admit, this post will probably garner some negs from a lot of people, but that’s going to happen with any bold pick. So I’m willing to sacrifice some negs in making this bold pick, but I seriously think it could happen.

the reason the young guys didn’t get minutes had to do with coach corbin. with him gone I think we will see a change in that.

IN Utah would be absoloutly crazy…. I do not believe he is a free agent we need in Utah… Utah needs a PF, a SF and a backup PG (Not Jameer that would take too many minutes away from Burke and Exum), but somebody like Andre Miller… Anway one of the worse ideas I have seen in a while…

The Wizards want to bring back Andre Miller this offseason. And he is someone who I thought of over Jameer Nelson. But when I saw that he would be likely be re-signed by the Wizards, I decided to look elsewhere with who would be a PG to continue to develop Burke and start mentoring Exum. And Nelson was that guy. He was second on my list of players who could be the guy after Miller. But now that Miller will likely re-sign with the Wizards, Nelson got bumped up to number one. Now if Miller does end up spurning the Wizards for the Jazz then that’s great and I’d be really happy for the acquisition but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Okay I didn’t think I’d get negged on that last comment. I know I didn’t list a source, but that was because I thought you guys would see I made that "assumption" and try and find the proof of that for yourself. It wasn’t that hard to do. The article I got my "assumption" from is from ESPN, so you would think that most people would know about it, but I guess not. Here’s your proof.

Okay that may be a little rude, but do your homework and look, don’t just assume that I’m wrong.

I know its bold and not many people are going to agree with me, but I’m going against the grain here and saying that Jameer Nelson will be the player that Utah gets to help out Exum and Burke. If it doesn’t end up being him, I’ll still be happy because I know Utah will do their homework and find some veteran that some team is willing to unload. And the Jazz will capitalize and bring him in and he will work wonders coming off the bench and mentoring Burke and Exum. (Maybe even Burks too!)

Getting Nelson isn’t crazy.  As long as he’s number three on the depth charts and there only to mentor.  Seems like a true veteran that has playoff experience.  Orlando might even give you a second round pick to take him.

Exum needs as much time playing the postion as possible and IMO he will start out backing up Burke with Garrett being the 3rd point.  I can see the idea of having a vet back up point but I don’t see it happening, maybe if they can get one for cheap they would pick him up and let Garrett go but I’m kinda doubting it.  It will be interesting to see if the Jazz try to get a vet 3 or if they will just start Hayward at the 3, he started most of last season at the 2 and IMO that is his best position but Burks and Exum will get PT at the 2 so I’m not sure how much Hayward will play at the 2 this year. Right now Hood is the only true 3 besides Hayward, Burks could play some but I don’t see him there much.

I watched more of Exums games today and IMO he will take some time to ajust, he has potential but he’s not there yet IMO, time will tell and summe league will be interesting.

This isnt at all crazy. A veteran court general PG has always been a staple in Utah Jazz rosters. Mo Williams, Derek Fisher, Earl Watson, Breven Knight, Jamaal Tinsley, John Lucas and thats all recently within the last 5 seasons. Jameer Nelson would be a good mentor for Exum and Burke. Half the people on this site compared Trey Burke to Jameer Nelaon.

I think Fisher was like 8 years ago.  Either way, they don’t need a vet taking away minutes from Burke or Exum.  Those dudes need to play.

Theres nothing wrong with an 18yo rookie who hasnt played competitive ball in a year to sit back and watch how the vets do it. He can play 16mpg as a backup and make him hungry for a starting spot.

Throwing a rookie into the fray without proper preparation can damage his confidence and health permenantly. Plus Exum isnt NBA ready…most Jazz fans dont want to pay thousands for a seasons pass to watch young players develop (i.e. lose).

Why would Burke need to learn behind Jameer Nelson when he solidified his status as starter last year?  This idea makes no sense.  Would he be the 3rd string benchwarmer?

Because I think we can all agree that Burke and the rest of the 2013 draft class has not fully developed yet. Yes, I agree that Burke solidified his status as a starter last season. But I also think his success happened because the Jazz as whole last season had a very bad team. It was a very young team, yes with a lot a promise, but as a whole they definitely struggled in their first year in being together without the veteran presense of Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson, Mo Williams, and Randy Foye.

And like someone earlier said in this topic, getting a veteran backup pg is a Jazz staple.
