PrometheusParticipantThe most readily glaring change evident in the 76ers unsucessful month of February lies with Evan Turner. The month of february has yielded a major reduction in both his role on the team and statistical production.
In 11 games in February, Turner’s averages are as follows: 20.4 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 2.7 apg, 4.9 rpg, .378 fg%, and hes only been to the line 6 times in these past 12 games.
In these past 12 games the 76ers are 5-7 and Turner scored 10 or more points only once. He has lost an average of 6 minutes per game. Meanwhile during the month of February, Lou William’s Minutes have increased an average of 4 per game, Iguodala’s minutes have increased by around 2 minutes per game. And, Thad Young’s minutes have increased by around 2.5 per game in this month.
This is a pretty major reduction from his production in 17 January games; 26 mpg, 10.8 ppg, 2.8 apg, 6.4 rpg, 0.490 fg%, where he averaged 2.7 freethrows per game.
Turner’s February numbers are alarming considering it finally looked like he was getting his game together in January.
Other players who have taken noticeable statistical hits from January to February are, Elton Brand (11.3ppg – 8.7), and Jodie Meeks (10.2 ppg – 7.5)
Heres another interesting fact, when Nikola Vucevic averages 20+ minutes per game, the 76ers are 7-2. In February, they are 5-7. When Vucevic averages 20 minutes, they are 4-1.
All of the above information seems to be contributing to the 76ers decline, however, the real reason the 76ers haven’t been winning starts and stops with Spencer Hawes.
It is well known that the 76ers are 12-2 with Spencer Hawes in the lineup. In games where either Hawes or Vucevic play a major role, the 76ers are 15-4. They haven’t lost a game with Hawes in the lineup since the 3rd game of the season, a 99-102 loss at Utah. Their only other true center is 36 year old veteran Tony Battie who hasn’t done anything worth noting this year. Their record without Hawes or Vucevic playing a major role is 5-10. I think it’s safe to assume that this 76er team under Doug Collins NEEDS production and quality minutes from the center position. The main problem, is that both Hawes and Vucevic haven’t been able to stay healthy this season.
Hawes has missed 19 games this season (sixers are 8-11 in this span) those wins came against; Cleveland, Charlotte, Chicago (without Rose), Orlando, Detroit, Charlotte again, Washington, and Atlanta (without Horford). Hardly a good resume. The losses come against Memphis, Minnesota, Dallas, Orlando, the Clippers, the Spurs, Miami twice, the Nets, and the Knicks.
On paper, the 76er’s only high quality wins without Hawes in the lineup are against Chicago, Orlando, and Atlanta, however, the bulls didnt have Rose, Atlanta didnt have Horford, and Orlando didn’t have Jameer Nelson and had Chris Duhon running the point. These wins don’t look as impressive now do they?
The 76ers need Spencer Hawes to win.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantWe need to play ET more, I think Et can be a star if he is given better oppurtinies… This is dougs last season, and Iggy isnt a star. i hope our new management looks at reality, gets a young coach (Timmy Legler) and we build around Jrue,ET, Thad, Vuic and Lou… Go Sixers

FastAndFuriousParticipantIf Lou Williams had some passing in his game or was 4 inches taller(6’6) dude would be one of the best players in the NBA, I really think his offensive game is at the highest level, he just isn’t a complete player, too little to be a 2 guard and not enough PG instincts to be a 1.
Sorry a little off topic lol I just think Lou is a great player just can’t reach his true potential because he has no position.

the microwaveParticipantTim Legler? lol… On what Merit? Hes an analyst, and has never been a coach.. I personally do not equate Tim Legler to Mark Jackson…. I know Legler personally he lived in my area for a long time in Galloway Twp, NJ.. I know he went to Lasalle and is a Philly boy in that respect, but why Legler? I am also a HUGE Sixers fan as are you , but please sell me on this perspective cause Im not feeling it..

HitsterParticipantPhilly are going through a form dip but they are still top of their divison and 4th in their conference, if you consider where they were at the end of the 2010 season, Coach Collins has done a very solid job.

Mr. 19134ParticipantI have been saying this all year and I have been going crazy about it lately. It’s obvious the less minutes he get’s the less production he has because his role is less significant. And everybody praising Iggy saying we can’t trade him and yadi yada yah look what is happening when you give him back a larger role and more minnutes the team returns to mediocrity.
This charade has gone on too long, either start Turner or trade him while he still has value it’s not fair to him for people to think he’s a bust and what not when really he’s not getting a chance and I’m not talking about throwing him in there at the end of a blowout and having him force shots that are off. Turners best asset is his ability to control the flow of a game and affect both sides of the court. He needs to start and get 30 plus minutes to understand the impact he can have on this franchise.
I know an All Star lies in Turner but Collins is killing that side of him by sitting him on the bench. I’ve found myself rooting for the other team now when Turner’s not in the game.
As long as Iggy is our best player we will never make it out the first round. And Turner will never develop being the 9th man off the bench playing 20 mpg if Collins thinks he will then his position should be reassessed too honestly.

Mr. 19134ParticipantOh and what are you talking about the Bulls didn’t have Rose? Rose played the first 3quarters and Iggy and Turner guard him pretty good. But Rose was giving up easy baskets on defense and the Sixers were winning by like 30 going into the 4th so he sat on the bench for that period.

Ghost01ParticipantAgain, 19134. EVAN TURNER IS NOT AN ALL STAR. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS. DENG DIDNT PLAY THAT GAME SO IT WASN’T 100% CHICAGO.

the microwaveParticipantHawes didnt play either.. So it wasnt 100 % Philly LOL.. Whats your pt? Get your head out of your own ass..

PrometheusParticipantWhoops…you’re right they absolutely did have Rose for that game, my bad…temporary lapse in judgement…still Deng is one of their most important players, so the win still doesnt look too great…Either way, the main point of writing this thing was to show just how badly this team has needed Hawes to win this year, and to state how Collins is showing absolutely no confidence in Turner.

PrometheusParticipantDoug’s gotta start playing Turner in crunch time too so he can gain confidence. I’v had enough of watching Iggy jack up ridiculously long 2’s and 3’s like hes going to magically start making them.

Mr. 19134Participant@Prometheus so what the Bulls didn’t have Deng? The Sixers were without Hawes and were playing Lavoy Allen against Noah and Boozer. And Lavoy Allen went 7-10 from the field because the Sixers completely picked apart their defense and it wasn’t even close. The Bulls have been winning all year while missing players, they’re like 9-2 without Rose so they are more then deep enough to compensate for Deng missing and that’s no excuse to get spanked.
@FvckSwagg
You need to take your emo @$$ somewhere else with that wack is. What you think it’s cool to have three 6’s in your name? Does that make you feel bad or something? Do you worship the devil? I bet you typed that with black painted finger nails. God bless your soul.

PrometheusParticipantThe whole point of my argument was that the sixers had 3 quality wins without hawes in the lineup. It just so happens that in each of those 3, a key player was missing from the opposing team…Its just a random fact you can interperet it however you want to. The point was to evaluate the Spencer’s value to the team, it really doesnt have anything to do with how the bulls play when down a key player.
