Hey folks, got my hands on the measurements for the USA’s U18 Team (thank you, USA Basketball). 24 players trying out in Colorado right now to play in FIBA Americas at the U18 level , where they will host the event from June 20-24. Number of top incoming college freshmen and some top US high school seniors trying out for this one.

Marquese Chriss, Chase Jeter and Glynn Watson are the lone 1997 participants, with the rest being born in 1996. Know also that the U17 team is playing in the World Championships in Dubai, so if you notice a glaring omission from the tryout, 1997/1998 born players will be vying for that starting July 24 (the event is August 8-16). Posted the measurements on every players profile, unfortunately they did not distinguish whether the heights were with or without shoes. Nonetheless, hoping this gives some current information on a number of intriguing prospcts.

Guards (height, weight, wingspan, standing reach)

    [Player: Antonio Blakeney], HS Sr.: 6’3.5, 177.4, 6’7.75, 8’3.75

    [Player: Isaiah Briscoe], HS Sr.: 6’3, 219.7, 6’9, 8’4.5

    [Player: Jalen Brunson], HS Sr.: 6’1.5, 194, 6’3.5, 8’0

[Player: Tyler Dorsey], HS Sr. (Arizona commit): 6’4.25, 178, 6’3.5, 8’2.75

    [Player: Tyus Jones], Duke Fr.: 6’0.75, 191.2, 6’5.25, 8’0.75

[Player: Malachi Richardson], HS Sr. (Syracuse commit): 6’3.25, 198.8, 7’0, 8’7

[Player: Justin Simon], HS Sr. (Arizona commit): 6’4.25, 192.1, 6’11.25, 8’7.5

    [Player: Allonzo Trier], HS Sr.: 6’3.25, 193.5, 6’6, 8’4

    [Player: Kameron Chatman], Michigan Fr.: 6’6.75, 217.6, 6’11, 8’9

[Player: Marquese Chriss], HS Sr. (Washington commit): 6’8.75, 210.2, 7’1, 8’9.5

Explain why it has to be without shoes? I’ve stood next to Stanley Johnson, I don’t think he’s taller than 6’7 with shoes, but that’s all I’m basing that off.

Side note: Starting to feel old when we’re talking about guys born in 1997. Not looking forward to the day that the first 2000’s player is drafted in the NBA.

I’m pretty sure that Malachi Richardson’s height is off since he’s listed  6’6" on espn and clearly looks it

He measured at 6’5.5 in shoes last summer and is probably closer to that. Sometimes these things are not exact. Having just seen Myles Turner, seems like he is easily 6’11. I really think they measured them in shoes, that seems to be what they do, but I think some of them were not exactly scientific. Even so, if Malachi is not 6’6, his wingspan and reach are both solid for either wing spot.

Just curious but can you please explain why those three 1997 born players were invited to try out for this team instead of the U17 team?

That they maybe had conflict of schedule as far as going to Dubai. Think that would be a pretty hot ticket and that they would want to be a part of that. Know Jeter was awesome this spring, Chriss had a monster Pangos All-American camp (though that was after he was given a tryout spot) and Watson is a true PG who they probably wanted to check out as a possible back-up. Who knows, maybe they all could get invites to the U17 camp as well (Jeter is still on the roster, though I am guessing they will update it officially soon)?

This is also an "Americas" tournament as opposed to a National, so players might have felt a tad less obliged. Am guessing also that their are a few other events or obligations going on. Nike Elite 100, NBA Top 100, Adidas Nations and Nike Big Man/PG camps all coming up during the tournament. So, am not part of the selection committee, though feel they got a good group of players who should do the job over 5 games. Solid highlights from the 1st day, as well:

Think it is safe to say Jaylen Brown is making his presence felt. Heard he has looked awesome, this video sure shows some evidence of that being the case.

Keep an eye out for Allonzo Trier. Hell of a player, incredibly dynamic scorer and a highly intelligent kid on and off the court
