As some of you know, covered this event the last few years for NBADraft.net and am anticipating doing the same this year! Fantastic event, lots of talent and the atmosphere is much different than a typical "All-Star Game", because you are playing for higher stakes in the USA vs. World format. Here is the press release from USA Basketball:

    http://www.usab.com/mens/hoopsummit/14_hsum_game_announcement.html

As far as the US Rosters are concerned, I have heard two of the players who have accepted invites are Myles Turner and James Blackmon. The rest of the rosters should be announced soon, though in my excitement over this event, made my roster predictions, lol. Here are the guys I see as possibly filling out the roster for Team USA in the 2014 Hoop Summit:

C [Player: Jahlil Okafor], [Player: Myles Turner]

PF [Player: Cliff Alexander], [Player: Kevon Looney]

SF [Player: Justise Winslow], [Player: Stanley Johnson]

SG [Player: James Blackmon], [Player: Kelly Oubre]

PG [Player: Emmanuel Mudiay], [Player: Tyus Jones], [Player: Joel Berry]

All of these players have either played on Team USA in some manner or were invited to a developmental camp, except I believe Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay is just a player I would like to see in person and I do believe would be someone who gets chosen. The two years I have gone to practices USA has only had 10 active guys, though could see them wanting one more PG in Berry, but usually just have that 5-on-5 as opposed to the World, who tend to carry an extra player.

As for the World team, had my predictions for that as well on this thread:

    http://nbadraft.net/forum/2014-nike-hoop-summit

Gave a number of possibilities for the World side. Thinking for the USA, guys like Justin Jackson (North Carolina), Theo Pinson (North Carolina), Rashad Vaughn, Devin Booker (Kentucky), Devin Robinson (Florida) and Chris McCullough (Syracuse) could also have a chance. If they want a local guy, they mean even look at Kameron Chatman (Michigan commit, plays HS in Portland).

I believe the only repeat for the World team will be Karl Towns (Kentucky, Dominican Republic) and he will be joined by fellow top HS prospect, future front court teammate Trey Lyles (Kentucky, Canada). Lyles was invited last year and bowed out due to injury. Beyond that, the one underclassmen I predicted for the game was Ben Simmons. I am not thinking a 1997 born guy gets an invite this year, though I would never say never.

Certainly a few possible candidates in Thon Maker, Georgios Papagiannis and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, just thinking those guys might be more likely next year, when they are in the age group of a majority of US HS Seniors. Think Wiggins was a special case and Towns had Mens National Team experience.

As always I’m really excited for this game, especially because there is a good chance there will be a Turkish Player for the World Team with Kenan Sipahi.

Age limit is 20 so all players born after April 12 1994 are eligible and considering all eligible players, this would be the ideal roster imo.

C Karl Towns (Dominican Republic), Jusuf Nurkic (Bosnia & Herzegovina)

PF Trey Lyles (Canada), Kristaps Porzingis (Latvia)

SF Damien Inglis (France), Marius Grigonis (Lithuania)

SG Dante Exum (Australia), Mario Hezonja (Croatia), Brandone Francis (Dominican Republic)

PG Kenan Sipahi (Turkey), Sdyr Ndir (Senegal)

I really hope Dante and Hezonja will play but I doubt it tbh. Exum has nothing to gain from participating and Hezonja probably won’t get clearance from his club. Would be awesome though.

Team overall is extremely talented and it should be a great matchup, especially under the rim.

I don’t know Sdyr Ndir but I just took him from your roster, because the european PG class in this age group seems kinda weak. Is he any good?

Heard he was really good at Nations. Yeah, not sure about the International PG’s that are eligible and heard Sidy was very quick, so seemed like a great fit. Think that having Schroeder and Exum last year was such a massive advantage for the USA. Having been to 5 of the last 6 Hoop Summit games, the USA guards usually out quick the World guards. Last year, not so much with quick as hell Schroeder and Exum being much faster than the Harrison boys.

Again, as I said in the other post, do not see Exum playing. Just think it really serves no value for his draft stock. He would have to play out of his mind well to move up any higher, guessing he passes on it. Hezonja as well, think he is playing for Barca and not sure about entering the draft in general, so unless he changes and mind, decides he is hell bent on entering this year, doubt he makes it. Was really hoping for him last year, think Wiggins would have been hyped for that match-up again (they played each other in 2011 at the Jordan Brand Classic International Game, Wiggins won MVP, held Mario to 6-19 shooting).

Well, if it is even close to as talented as last year, should be another fantastic game. Do not think they get better than last years bunch, had three first rounders, a couple possible top picks in the draft, talent and size beyond that. The US should have more size this year, just hope the World keeps it competitive. Think they will if they get close to the team both either of us has listed.

I don’t think Mudiay was born in the USA. He may actually be eligible to play for the world team.

But, Kyrie Irving was born in Australia and you didn’t see him playing for the World squad. Think that Mudiay does have American citizenship as well and if you want to establish a connection to USA Basketball, you do not play for the World team in this game. It is one thing to play for Team Africa at adidas Nations (he did in 2011) and I am pretty sure the Nike Global Challenge is not officially a USA basketball event.

The Hoop Summit, well, if you are playing on the World team, do not think it is what is best for your future if you plan on playing for Team USA in the future. Hence, his inclusion on my USA roster as opposed to the World team. Karl Towns chose Dominican Republic, Trey Lyles chose Canada, not sure that Mudiay chooses DRC. So, eligible, yes. Think that he chooses to play for the US if he wants to be part of the future of USA Basketball, which I believe he probably does. Do not know for sure, just think that once you choose allegiances, think it pretty much ends your eligibility to play for another country.
