Here is my list of 1st rounders from the 2010 draft that will see limited to very little playing time this season (besides Udoh ofcourse due to his injury)

    1) Elliot Williams, Portland
Why? He is stuck behind a very crowded backcourt and he doesn’t help out extremely well from the perimeter as he is more effective with the ball in his hands. I think with Miller and Bayless ahead of him at the point and Roy, Matthews, and Fernandez ahead of him at the 2, we wont be seeing a whole lot of Williams this year.

    2) Kevin Seraphin, Washington
Why? Seraphin has a big, athletic body but he is raw offensively and is a little less prepared to contribute immediately then Trever Booker. Keep in mind, the Wizards also just added Yi Jianlian and Hilton Armstrong…and they have up-and-coming frontcourt starters Blatche and McGee.

    3) Gani Lawal, Phoenix
Why? Lawal showed us how turnover-prone and out of control he can be during a couple summer league games. That being said, his hustle is amazing and his passion is needed on every team..But, the Suns will be looking more towards Turkoglu, Childress, Earl Clark, and newly signed Hakim Warrick for immediate offensive replacement after Amare booked it for the big apple. Lawal will be a last resort option if all else fails

    4) Daniel Orton, Orlando
Why? He’s not good. He showed us just how un-deserving he is of playing in the NBA during the summer league as he disappeared on offense, picked fights, and committed tons of silly fouls. The Magic don’t have a lot of big bodies but he will be the last man off the bench and should only see the floor if Anderson, Bass, or Gortat go down with injuries

    5) Greivis Vasquez, Memphis
Why? Vasquez may not even make the team- he is still unsigned and his play in the summer league warranted his current predicament. If they do sign him, he will be stuck behind Conley and Law as the 3rd PG…he cant shoot well enough from the outside to spell OJ mayo at the 2 and newly acquired Tony Allen will retrieve all backup 2-guard minutes

I think vasquez plays over law. Law is close to not even being in the NBA

gani IMO will beat out Clark because of his hustle. He’s gonna earn some minutes

on a side note I have the move skilled and just better player yi beating out mcgee. I’m just not Completely sold on a third year athletic big dominating d leauge guys. I need proof(preseason) before joining the bandwagon that anothy Randolph and Deandre Jordan started after good summer leauge

Flip already said that his only solidified position is Mcgee at the 4. Anyways Yi will probably start the season at the 4 with Blatche recovering from the broken foot. Anyways starter title is just a formality because Yi will get plenty of playing time. Blatche and Mcgee are extremely foul prone. Mcgee is the starting Center no doubt.

I’m sure the hype will have him starting but last year he was foul prone with a low definsive iq. Flip has already made a mistake saying That instead of saying everyone has to earn there spots. I’d love to be wrong though since the wiz are my home team

Yi didn’t exactly set the world on fire on a Nets team where he had every chance to be a stud. He’s a nice first big off the bench but I wouldn’t want him starting. He’s too soft. You’d probably have to move Blatche to Center with Yi. I’ve heard that Flip wants to move Yi a lot and would consider in some sets having him at the 3. Yi is the perfect backup 4. He and Blatche really bring similar things to the table.

No yi didn’t set the world on fire but he played better then mcgee so what does that say about mcgee? And yi has been playing hurt for the past season and a half

Other then mcgee being a forsure starter what have I questioned since you say I question ever move?

I’ve said yi was a good pick up
said wall was a good draft pick
    flip good pick up coach
keeping agent zero a good idea

McGee wasn’t even starting last year. Who can put up good stats while only playing 16.1 MPG. The stats he averaged last year were good for when you only average 16.1 MPG.

He averaged 1.7 blocks per game last season. That was good for 11th in the league last season and he averaged the most blocks shot per 36 minutes. Just imagine, if he got more PT last season, he might have led the league in blocked shots.

Yi was a starter. Of course you’re going to put up better numbers than somebody who’s only averaging 16.1 MPG.

And Now that McGee is starting and he finally has a true PG(Mr. Wall), look for him to have a breakout year.

Mcgee didn’t start because he wasn’t good enough to start. He got the time he got because he wasn’t good enough to get more

you can’t go by if someone hot this minutes they would average much mote points or reb etc. If I average give ppg in ten min that doesn’t mean imma put up 20 in 40min. Look at Sergio rodrigez stats after getting more min with the knicks compared to the kings

it wasn’t like mcgee was on the bench because he was hurt or he had a allstar infrint of him. Will his stats be better. Probably but don’t base that on summer leauge where he’s a third year NBA player vs guys who will be in the d leauge or at the end of the bench in the NBA

Avery Bradley- He is buried and that is probably for the best.
Eric Bledsoe- His head was completely swimming in the summer league.
Lazar Hayward- They collected small forwards.
    Daniel Orton- Obvious.
Larry Sanders- System play with Skiles having a young big man who will make mistakes or options like more minutes for Drew Gooden or the occasional Jon Brockman.
Quincy Pondexter- It will be hard for him to carve out a niche when the best he can develop into is a poor man’s Trevor Ariza. Well, now they have Trevor Ariza.
Dominique Jones- It is a loaded roster in Dallas, and unless there are injuries to free up minutes I just don’t see it happening.
Ekpe Udoh- Obvious initial reason, but also when he gets back there is still the issue of David Lee, Brandan Wright, Vlad Radmanovic, and Andris Biedrins. Plus, if Nellie gets canned (entirely possible) there goes his biggest supporter.

I am also hesitant about Xavier Henry. I just don’t get the squabble between Henry and the Griz. It is hard to believe it can possible turn out well.

Gordon Hayward dominates the lotto picks here. I don’t care where he is on the depth chart (currently behind either Raja Bell or C.J. Miles). Sloan does not play rookies, and Hayward is nowhere near ready to contribute for a playoff team.

    "Sloan does not play rookies"

    Wesley Matthews?

Hayward will get about 20 minutes a game, he will make some shots and be a solid role-player.

I actually think Bradley could play a Tony Allen-type role in being the lock-down defender off the bench and providing some athleticism so he could get some minutes. Celtics proved this season they could do pretty badly regular season and turn it on in the playoffs so expect Doc to rest his Big 4 (counting Shaq here) during the regular season.

I could see Bradley getting some court time defending PGs while Daniels guards a 2 and actually plays the point.

Babbitt will get minutes too. Portland lost Webster and Outlaw, so who is going to come off the bench at the 3? Sure, Matthews could play some 3, and Roy could too, but Batum is fairly injury prone also so I do think Luke will get 10-15mpg his rookie season.

Jordan Crawford anyone? He seems like a lesser version of Jamal Crawford, but like Pondexter, they have the real thing. Unless this trade situation goes sour I can’t see him getting minutes, the Hawks have good depth at the guard position with Teague, Bibby, Crawford and Johnson.

Matthews starting was unprecedented, due to a ton of injuries. Millsap played 18 minutes, and Deron only started 47 of the 80 games he played in (and it wasn’t like he was playing behind an all-world PG). Relative to the average coach, Sloan hardly plays rookies.

I don’t see Aminu getting many minutes because he isn’t ready for the NBA (and I’m not sure he ever will be) and I think playing behind Griffin, Gomes and Butler will mean there won’t be many minutes to go around.

I don’t think Larry Sanders will see more than 15 mpg next year. He’s not very polished or strong right now. I agree he won’t play much.

Jones has a chance to get limited minutes because of his ability to slash and score and he can defend both guard spots, but we’ll see how that goes in terms of his PT next season.

“I actually think Bradley could play a Tony Allen-type role in being the lock-down defender off the bench and providing some athleticism so he could get some minutes. Celtics proved this season they could do pretty badly regular season and turn it on in the playoffs so expect Doc to rest his Big 4 (counting Shaq here) during the regular season.”

With Ray Allen, Wafer, Daniels, Delonte West and even Nate Robinson sharing minutes at the SG spot, and Rondo, Robinson and West sharing time at the PG, Bradley will have to really set the world on fire to see more than extremely limited. He’s not Tony Allen either, not nearly big enough to defend top SG’s like Allen has done. Bradley is more like a young Delonte West right now, and they already have West on the roster now so…..

“Babbitt will get minutes too. Portland lost Webster and Outlaw, so who is going to come off the bench at the 3? Sure, Matthews could play some 3, and Roy could too, but Batum is fairly injury prone also so I do think Luke will get 10-15mpg his rookie season.”

10-15 mpg isn’t very much time. Matthews, Batum and Roy will all see a good bit of time at the SF spot, and Babbitt really isn’t that good right now. Not much about his game seemed to translate in SL (other than his mid-range game), and McMillan isn’t going to like that he is a poor defender.

So Sloan plays rookies but he doesn’t play them alot. I think it has less to do with Sloan and more to do with how Utah is almost always pretty good with good vets on the team
on top of picking lower in the first round which usually means the talent is lower then earlier in thr draft

I thought Avery would play more as well untill the signed west who can play backup one and two and is a good defender

The reason all recruits wanna go to Kentucky is because Coach Cal is so good he can get Daniel Orton into the first round

I don’t think Calipari did anything special to get Orton to the pros…..if anything his stock was hurt by playing at UK because he would have played a lot more and put up better numbers just about anywhere else in America….

I can’t see Babbitt getting any minutes.

I mean, with Roy, Matthews (will play both 2 and 3) and Batum, where is he going to play? The minutes aren’t there at the four either.

Numbers wise it prob hurt him. I’m
not sure he gets drafted higher with another college because his game would have been exposed just like in summer leauge and workouts. He has able to hide his weaknesses at Kentucky bhe wouldn’t be able to do that on other team

I don’t see Darrington Hobson getting any burn with the log jam of wings & maybe Tiny Gallon either with their heavy rotation now of forwards.

“Power forward Keith “Tiny” Gallon, whom the Milwaukee Bucks chose in the second round of the 2010 NBA draft, has yet to sign on the dotted line. Mark Cornstein, Gallon’s agent, told me, “We’re exploring all possibilities.” And one of them is playing in Europe.”

Keep in mind this is regarding first-round picks, Gallon doesn’t fall into that category, there are plenty of 2nd rounders who won’t get minutes.

@J-Nixon: I either hadn’t considered West when I wrote that post or he hadn’t been signed yet/I hadn’t heard about it yet. I do agree that this doesn’t bode well for Bradley, especially given his injury.

As for Roy playing at the 3, keep in mind Roy has shown an aversion to playing that position in the past even when it meant better team success. I just don’t see him eating up too many minutes.

Something to consider with Babbitt was that he received a lot more attention in the SL than he will during the regular season, he could be a solid role player providing some shooting off the bench. I still can’t shake the feeling he’ll get minutes.

babbit would see less shots and the attention equals out because the players are much much better with better coaching
