NbanflguyParticipantWe are already 1/3 of the way through this weird shortened season. What has happened so far that has been most surprising to you. It can be in a good way or a bad way.
Could be a stat: Like Tyson Chandler shooting over 70% from the field
A team: Timberwolves above .500, cavs almost .500, knicks, mavs, and celtics slow start, etc
A emergence of a player: Rubio, Irving, Nikola Pekovic, J Lin, etc
Dissapointing player: Amare, Wes Johnson, etc
It could be anything really. What has happened that you did not see when you looked into your crystal ball before the season started?

TyroberParticipantYou kinda picked everything I wanted to say.

BlazermannParticipantI actually thought the Knicks were going to be good foolish me.:/

FastAndFuriousParticipantIn all honesty, there have been some suprises so far, but the biggest suprise to me has been Jeremy Lin easily.

baggin13ParticipantGood for the emergence of players like Pek and Lin. It shows that jsut becasue you don’t have the attnetion like some of your peers, you can still ball and play the game at a high level. Lin may be a temp, I hope he isn’t, but seeing him score at a high level and help NY win without Melo will always make me smile.
Also Denver, maybe I am a Melo hater, but they are a solid, or dare I say better team without him. Wasn’t sure how it would fare for them without JR, Chandler and Martin, but they are ballin, didn’t see that coming

orangeshadow83ParticipantHonestly Denver Philly and Indy are suprising me by how well they are playing…I felt the Knicks would be much better than they are…but the most suprising to me is how well Rubio is playing. I did not expect him to contribute the way he has so soon.

Kinguy11ParticipantFor me it’s the Knicks, Mavs and Celts slow start, along with Utah and the T’Wolves plying well.
Playwise I didn’t think Jason Kidd would play so bad, considering his previous season. Finally, the great games from Jeremy were somewhat of a surprise but, (I’m surprised this hasn’t come yet) Andrew Bynum playing so well since coming back from injury was a huge surprise. I thought he’d play as expected but he’s really surprised me with his great game at the moment.

FastAndFuriousParticipantIsiah Thomas outplaying Jimmer in Sacramento is a suprise as well.

Wavy BagelsParticipantThe biggest suprise has been Rubio without a doubt. His court vision is out of this world. Looking like he’s going for a 10-assist per game rookie season when it’s all said and done.
The biggest disappointment has been the Knicks. Ironically, lack of a PG has hurt them tremendously, and STAT ‘n Melo have yet to mesh well. Tyson Chandler is doing his job, though.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe T-Wolves being above .500 is surprising and Rubio’s play is somewhat surprising as well. I didn’t think he’d be this good so soon.
I expected the Knicks to be a lot better than they are right now.
Other than that, nothing really has surprised me. I expected teams like the Pacers, Nuggets, teams with depth, etc to be good during this grind it out season.

HaleParticipantRubio being this good this early. No doubt in my mind that’s the biggest surprise to me.

CoolidgerParticipantI think everyones touched on most of the standout subjects, and I agree with most of them.
A few other surprising players who got off to really hot starts who I see missing include Ryan Anderson, Spencer Hawes & Byron Mullens, the latter of whom was buried on the deep OKC bench the past 2 years, and is getting some run and turning into a solid and consitent centre. It kinda reminds me of what Primoz Brezec did for the Bobcats a couple years ago, when he averaged around 12 points or so.
As for dissapointments, surprised Stephen Jackson isn’t getting mentioned more.

BiggysmallsParticipantI’m suprised at how well Denver has done, not without Melo, but no JR Smith and Wilson Chandler, I thought that would really hurt their depth, but theyve been just fine.
I didnt expect Cleveland to be as good as they have been, I figured Irving would do fine in Byron Scotts system but I did not see Cleveland being competetive.
Obviously Rubios play has suprised everybody, David Kahn said it best in a recent interview in that he seems to have skipped that big learning curve that jsut about all rookies, especially euros go through, and he just seems like he is never out of control.
I thought Tyson Chandlers presence would make Amare better defensively similair to the way Bynum makes Gasol alot better, but that hasnt happened and it has really hurt his offense due to the lack of spacing for Stoudemire to operate.

Scottoant93ParticipantGood
Bargs emerging into a more complete player and improving greatly under casey too bad for injuries
Cavs being respectable decent this year.
Pacers emerging
Players such as lowry, rubio steppong up
Bad
Derozen being a complete non factor fir the raps
John wall struggled and is doin ok now but not improving to the 20 and 8 i thought he would be
Though derrick williams would be better then he has shown but hes a rookie

khaled_a_dParticipantstat: Vesley FT% ,I expected it to be bad,but not that bad
Also Dirk being 17PPG his worst since sophomore year while shooting his worst FG% and 3PT% since his Rookie season
As for good stats:Rubio stealing is way better than I expected,Irving FG% is just amazingA team: Timberwolves ,Clippers being that good, expected the Mavs(my fav team )to be better
A emergence of a player: Rubio, Irving, Nikola Pekovic, J Lin,Also Bismack being better than I expected and showing he has the potential to be good
Dissapointing player: Wes Johnson for Sure, thought Vesley will be better than that,Kidd also is having awful season,he should just retire after the end of it

NYK2010ParticipantKnicks have been a mess but w/out a PG those lofty expectations of being great were crazy.
Losses to bad teams at home really hurt them.
Fields, Lin, Jeffires, Shumpert, Amare, Walke are playing a lot better.
They obviously aren’t as bad as their record those games against the Bulls and Celtics proved that.
As for Lin he proved he’s at worst a very capable backup and should be more. I like how he pushes the ball and penetrates and he seems to play the game at a faster pace.
The Mavs are in transition a little and the Celtics are just older plus injuries hurt them.

BA30ParticipantRubio has been a professional basketball player for like 30 years already. Not surprising that a "rookie" with his experience is playing well. That being said, he still can’t shoot.
Biggest surprise: Philly/Indiana records, Melo being a completely selfish player in NY and effectively making them a poor team…oh wait, that isn’t surprising at all.

DuncanRulesParticipantIrving being so good!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 1:20pm #633553

HaleParticipant@BA30
I didn’t expect him to be very good at all, so him being as good as he is was a big shock to me.
