We all know know lebron James has the MVP wrapped up but how great has Kobe been this season for LA? Battling thru injuries and drama this guy has been through hell trying to get this team on track and is now fighting for an 8th seed in the playoffs. The heroics he’s shown this season has further cemented his legacy as 1 of the greatest to ever play this game. My question is if the lakers do not make the playoffs will you look at Kobe Bryant’s legacy differently? Does his status as an all time great diminish? For me the answer is no. I still in my mind believe Kobe is a top 10 player all time.

It only diminishes his legacy if they dont make the playoffs and dwight leaves. If dwight stays next year they have a chance to be the best team in the western conference. Everyone on that team is hurt. So its hard to say it hurts kobes legacy. But if dwight leaves it proves Kobe is a selfish person that cant have another star on his team. Yes Gosal but he’s mentally wired different than your average american star

Naw, the guy is putting the team on his back right now despite being 34. That’s not going to tarnish his legacy even if he just misses the playoffs.

That being said I think the Lakers get in as the eighth seed.

While you say this will not diminish his legacy, it’s something that undeniably will be brought up from time to time when comparing Kobe to the all-timers.

The only way his legacy could be tarnished is if we eventually find out that he was on PEDs his entire career.

I don’t necessarily agree with your statement. I think Kobe could play with another star. I mean obviously he did it with Shaq even though they broke up. But to add to your point I don’t think a lot of players could win a ring with w
Dwight not just Kobe. It was magnified that Dwight was in LA and that they have expectations so maybe we should be saying Dwight can’t play with a star or in a big time city with basketball expectations

I really don’t see how they’d have a chance to be the best in West next year.

Yes- they got off to a bad start, but they haven’t been playing at an elite level at all this year. All of their “hot runs” came against bad-mediocre competition.

They will be a year older, which doesn’t favor Nash, Kobe, Metta, or Gasol.

They still won’t be able to guard anybody, and they have no money to spend on anyone.

I’m not at all worried for Kobe’s legacy, it really doesn’t mean that much. He is playing on a terrible team and doing the best he can. Then again, they aren’t beating anyone good. Kobe had these “unbelievable” games against New Orleans and Portland, games a team fighting for its playoff lives should win, not need to super-human heroics.

^now that’s just disrespectful-Kobe Bean Bryant is a first ballot hall of gamer 5 time NBA champion paired with the best center in the league who beat lebron 4-1 in the conference finals with a bunch of scrubs on his team.

All they have to do is get healthy and add the right pieces which they always try and do. The LA Lakers are the best franchise in sports.

Best franchise in sports??????? They aren’t even the best in the west. Spurs are a better organization. None of the LA drama they never miss the playoffs and have the highest winning percentage in sports since Duncan was drafted.
And when Dwight beat lebron in the playoffs lebron had scrubs too. I doubt the lakers will be the best in the west next season an old team getting older and will prolly play less defence there if dantoni gets players that he wants for his system which will prolly mean they will be undersized

Lol I’m talking about history. The spurs are a blip on the radar compared to the lakers. Gail Goodrich, Jerry West, Wilt, kareem, magic, worthy, vlade, Kobe, shaq, pau, and now Dwight….compared to…Duncan and David Robinson. Duncan’s 3 compared to Kobe’s 5.

How many banners? It’s not even close lakers are a way better organization.

He’s missed the playoffs/first roundd exits a few times before, in his prime even.

This wouldn’t make a difference, especially since it’s at the tail-end of his career.

    I don’t like Kobe.

But if you don’t respect his game or legacy you don’t know SQUAT about basketball.

All of you are saying that his team isn’t good. The reason I asked about the legacy was because he has stars and HOF on his team. But thanks and i def believe it has more to do with the injuries and coaching than his play. As for the person saying that Kobe only had good games against bad teams check again. Kobe had some of his best games against the thunder spurs and other big teams

Come on guys, Kobe and the Lakers could definitely be one of the top seeds in the West if Dwight comes back… and they hire Phil Jackson again.
