CodySLCParticipantI hate to say i called this, but i did. Not a bad trade either for the Jazz. Yes we lost our best player, but he wanted out anyways. The rumors must have been true, so instead of waiting around another year and trying to make Deron happy we traded him. Word is he’s not happy about it either. Now he’s he Nets problem. I wounder what kinda player Harris come become in Utah? Favors will be a big lift as the first big off the bench. And hopfully can devolpe into a beast? Thoughts?

ilike.panochasParticipantFavors’ upside is a bit overrated to me, he looks very similar to Serge Ibaka and could be a good player but I can’t see him being a all-star PF. DHarris is a good PG. The 2 1st round picks should help the rebuilding process, this years class is weak, but next year is looking strong.
I think the Jazz could have gotten more for DWill. I’m sure there are other teams besides the Nets that would have had interest?

sheltwon3ParticipantWow I was wrong. I found that Deron Williams does now want to be there. This could end bad for NJ. Dolan still trumps Mikalov.

sheltwon3ParticipantComparing him to Ibaka is a huge compliment. Ibaka is only 21 and very productive. Ibaka could be an All star if he continues to improve. Kevin Love made it as an All star this year over Lamarcus Alridge. I am sure if Ibaka can get minutes and put up block shots and rebound with monster dunks, he has a chance. There are no set big men in the West that will make it year after year if even Duncan playing less than 30 minutes is an All star. Let’s be honest i there were better young forwards and centers in the West, he would not have made it in regardless of what he has done in the past.

ilike.panochasParticipantThat was actually generous to compare Favors to Ibaka, Favors isn’t even near the shot blocker that Ibaka is.

CodySLCParticipantHarris and Favors are both nice young players. Favors is only what barely 20? Plus those should be some pretty good picks as well. D Will wont take them out of the lotery. His attitude was starting to become poisonous in the locker room im sure. He wanted out, now he’s out. He can take his &$#%#&@!y attitude and poor leadership skills to NJ. And complain more their about being on a lottery team.

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you that Deron Williams is good as gone. The fact he got traded for 40 cents on the dollar should open your eyes about him and Sloan, he was pushed out.

SwatLakeCityParticipantFirst let me assure you that this trade was made not because Dwill forced Sloan out, but because Dwill wanted out of Utah. You could see it in the way he played. He was not happy with Utah. Now he will be even more upset because Jersey is worse off than Utah is. Ironic, and funny.
But I have a question if Favors has the potential to be an allstar I would want him to develop and rather quickly too. He certainly isn’t gonna do that sitting on the bench. Could Millsap be traded inorder for this to happen like say in the offseason?

CodySLCParticipantHad nothin to do with Sloan. It had to do with him wanting to leave anyways. Look at my old post and see the trade i made on the trade machine. Almost the same deal that went down. I figured if he wanted out the Jazz wouldnt wait around.

He argued with Sloan in front of the media among other things. Note, these are YOUR beat writers on twitter saying this. I’m not making anything up. If you think Williams had nothing to do with Sloan leaving, you’re crazy.
As for the deal, you took 60 cents on the dollar and made a impulse trade. It’s a nice deal, but you should have waited till summer IMO.

CodySLCParticipantSloan was old and was gonna leave soon anyways. Deron had something to do with it but wasnt the only reason. Anyways as a Jazz fan i like the trade. We got some good talent and some high picks. Now Deron can have fun pointing the finger and racking up losses in NJ

So pushing him out because he was old makes it right? Also….you really think Deron Williams is gonna struggle in New Jersey? I’m willing to bet New Jersey has a better second half record then Utah.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThis is what happens when you force a legend out, throw a basketball at a teammates head during a game and act like a diva all season… You get traded from a playoff team to a team that’s headed nowhere.
I bet Williams will miss the Jazz and his former teammates now…

The lake show2Dwill was the last straw for Sloan. He wasn’t the sole reason Sloan left but he was part of it. Sloan was already considering not coming back for the past couple of seasons and the Dwill thing just pushed him over the edge. It would have been the same if any other player did it. After the arguement he went to management and asked to suspend Dwill, Management didn’t agree and he said he is no puppet and will just quit then and thats what he did

The reports about Williams’ issues this season are legit. Or else the Jazz wouldn’t have moved him like this.0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/23/2011 - 10:45am #498146

The Nets are 17-40 right now and are the 6th worst team, I dobut they jump over 4 teams…so that’s what I mean when I said you should have a top 10 pick.
I’m sorry, but you clearly don’t know how good Williams is and/or being bias about him because he wanted to leave Utah.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI realize its under the bridge, indianabasketball, but this is a topic that I am really irate about because it just seems stupid that a star player would force Sloan out who had been with the Jazz for 23 years and dwill was only their for 5. Surely, he’s had problems with star players before, why didn’t he just quit then. For example with Malone? Yeah Malone respected him but so did DWill.
But if its true that Sloan asked management to suspend Dwill and they didn’t then maybe management needed to handle it better and start paying attention to their players more. Maybe if Greg Miller wasn’t owner of the Jazz this wouldn’t have happened. Not saying that he needs to leave but his style is a little different from his dad’s (the late Larry Miller) Larry Miller would always pay attention to his players. For example I once read that Larry often came to practices to just sit and watch and when he Coach Sloan and Malone get into a fight he would sit back and watch and then after practice he would go and ask both Sloan and Malone if everything is alright. Greg does not do that. I don’t even think he comes to practices anymore. He kind of owns the Jazz like he’s a third wheel and maybe his influence rubbed off on the rest of management so maybe that is why they didn’t handle the Dwill situation correctly.
Just a thought. Anyway back to what we were talking about beforehand, will Millsap get traded like in the offseason for maybe a SG?

sheltwon3ParticipantThat makes no sense if Utah was going to trade Deron Williams anyway then why would they let Sloan retire like a week or so ago. There was more to it than that. The media does not have all the answers. They just found out about this Deron Williams trade that went down. Most of the stuff the media people do is hearsay and gossip. Eventually so of the truth will leak out.

The lake show2Utah wasn’t gonna trade Dwill though thats the thing. They traded him because he must have really let it be known that there was no way he was gonna resign with them. I’m pretty sure Utah either didn’t think Sloan would really quit or they didn’t mind if he left because they wanted a change. And with Sloans fan base there was no way they were gonna force him out.

Counting StarsParticipantUtah has an extremely passionate fan base – reports are that it’s hard to hear the whistle at the Energy Solutions Arena because of how loud the fans are. And with Williams looking more and more like the reason they lost their hall of fame coach they’ve loved for 23 years, he had worn out his welcome. A growing percentage of the fan base didn’t want him and this avoids a drawn out saga like the Carmelo one we just saw some resolution on.

butidonthavemoneyI’ve been a Jazz since forever, and I did NOT think we had the balls to pull off a trade this season!
I love Derrick Favors, but I don’t think he’s a future all-star. If he just rebounds and plays hard then Utah fans will love him. Devin Harris is overrated and we should trade him to the Blazers for Pryzbilla and a future pick.
Can we re-sign Sundiata Gains? Make it happen KOC, you devilishy awesome man, you!

butidonthavemoneyJAZZ PEOPLE!
Do you remember when Saer Sene had a pre-draft workout with the Jazz? Karl Malone was in charge with that workout and he said that he would have loved to work with Sene over the season. We didn’t draft him, but would Malone coach Favors one-on-one?
He said that he would love to be a part of the Jazz (of course that was with Larry Miller and Jerry Sloan), and he was only a phone call away.
MAKE IT HAPPEN, KOC!
Malone + Favors = BEAST

Counting StarsParticipantThe Jazz did just bring Jeff Hornacek in as an assistant coach. Why not bring back another great Jazzman from the past? I think there is some relationship repair to do with Jazz fans after losing Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson to apparently side with a prima donna point guard who they just dealt away. And I think learning from one of the best power forwards to play the game can only do Favors some good.
And Nomoney, the first thing I thought of when I found out about this trade is in one of your anti-D-Will rants you said trade Williams to the Nets for Harris.

I miss Gaines too. How sweet was that game winner he made?

BKKnicksfanParticipantThat Favors-Malone idea is great.
Utah should really look toward getting alot of guys PT and tanking to miss the playoffs. Minnesota owns Utah’s pick (top 16 protected) and you can use that pick right now. If I’m Utah, Favors is starting and Milsap is coming off the bench.

Counting StarsParticipantFirst off, with or without Jerry Sloan, I can’t see Utah tanking. Ever. They’re just not that kind of team.
And I don’t think you want to bench Millsap. You just got rid of one unhappy player, don’t create another.

CodySLCParticipantYa Millsap is to productive and has earned that starting job. He had to wait for Boozer to leave before he got it also. Favors probably will start sooner than later but it wont be this year.

– When I mean tanking, I mean starting your younger player to keep your draft pick. Happens all the time and would you rather have two lotto picks or one lotto pick? Thank you.
And I don’t think you want to bench Millsap. You just got rid of one unhappy player, don’t create another.
– Are you slow? I never said bench him, I said move him to the bench. Let Milsap be the 6th man where he’s more productive and allow Favors to develop.

butidonthavemoneyWe won’t tank, and we won’t start Favors over Millsap (even though it makes a lot of sense).
Also, Utah owns their own first round pick. We traded the Memphis first round pick to Minnesota. The one we got from the Ronnie Brewer trade.
CodySLC – Favors is 19 years old.
Word on the street (ESPN) is that Utah is interested in Hasheem Thabeet, but won’t trade Kirilenko or Millsap for him. That would be interesting.

BKKnicksfanParticipantCool with me, it doesn’t matter. My Knicks are going to the playoffs. I’m giving my 2 cents on it.
I hope you guys make the playoffs, so you can lose that pick and then draft Jimmer Fredette with New Jersey’s pick ( or do what everyone expects you to do). This is the EXACT reason why Utah’s been what is has always been, average. You guys wanna play the right way, the safe way. That’s the reason why this deal won’t benefit you guys. Why? Because IF Derrick Favors pans out, IF you get solid players in the 2011 draft, they will always leave, because your team doesn’t have the BALLS to be daring.
Tell me I’m wrong…

Counting StarsParticipantThat is not how the Jazz operate. Corbin is running the show now, but he was an assistant under Jerry Sloan for years and I would imagine some of that old school mentality rubbed off on him. And I would rather have a competitive team who goes out every night and tries their best to win.
As for the second one, it means the exact same fucking thing! And I have seen no evidence that Millsap is more productive as a 6th man than a starter. And Favors will have a chance to develop. It doesn’t have to be right now when the team is trying to make the playoffs.

butidonthavemoneyMillsap does not thrive in a starting role. He’s been a below-average defender this year and a mediocre rebounder. Those were his greatest strengths coming off the bench. Favors needs the playing time, and he is actually a great compliment to Al Jefferson.
The funny thing is, Jerry Sloan might have actually started Favors in steed of Millsap — in the same manner Hayward would start over CJ Miles.
Makes sense, but won’t happen.

Greg Miller is a younger more outspoken owner, and Corbin is a younger more enthusiastic coach. This trade took balls to make.

That’s it? Ya’ll win the 6-8 seed every year? That makes you better? Damn. Eventually, you guys should be able to make a break…oh wait, you won’t because you just traded your star point guard for 60 cents on the dollar.

Sigh, how do you know? New Jersey has better wings then Utah and a better center then Utah. I call it a upgrade on a team without a good point guard. Deron Williams won’t lead that team to anything this year, but rest assure, the Nets will be winning more games then Utah next season. When that happens, I wanna see your words then.
As for the Knicks comment, the Jazz been to how many finals? Zero. The Jazz won how many titles? Zero? Who earned more money in the past 10 years? The Knicks. Who got a big free agent even after they sucked the year before? The Knicks. Who had their best post player leave even after winning a postseason round? The Jazz.
Who just had a player complain about thier coach and wanted out so the team had to move him in a inpluse move? The Jazz
Who added a top 10-13 player in the NBA after he demanded to come to their team/city? The Knicks
I rest my case on that.

CodySLCParticipantsigh, how do you know? New Jersey has better wings then Utah and a better center then Utah.
Who do they have on the wing? Travis Outlaw? And Al Jefferson can score just was well if not better than Lopez, on a good team, and can acutally grab a rebound.
The Knick are a huge market with money to throw around and they waste it on guys like Eddy Curry and Allen Houston. Lets hope Amare doesn’t get poked in the eye or somthing. Than that max contract will come back to bite you guys. The Jazz are a small market and still are better than the Knicks, and have been for some time. Like i said whens the last time you one a series or even made the playoffs?
And who had the balls to move their star player so he didnt pull a Lebron, Amare, or Carmelo? The Jazz did.
We let guys like Williams and Boozer walk if they dont wanna be here.

BKKnicksfanParticipantYou know what? No money is correct and I apologize. Let’s end this thread on a good note. Here’s what I wrote about the Jazz this afternoon on my blog.
http://nbastateofmind.wordpress.com/2011/02/23/good-job-utah/
Remember last offseason where Cleveland and Toronto got left with nothing but late 1st round picks and trade exceptions for LeBron James and Chris Bosh? Looks like teams like Denver and Utah, weren’t going out that way. With the Nuggets and Jazz moving both Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams, they both did what the Cavs and Raptors didnt: Decrease the time it will take to rebuild a franchise. When you trade for superstars, you will never get fair value for him. Instead, teams will try to get back 60 or 70 cents on the dollar for him. In Utah case, I love what they got back
The other two huge pieces? Those two first round picks heading to Utah. The first pick is New Jersey’s 2011 1st round pick. That’s a huge haul because the Nets are a bottom 6 teams (currently 17-40) and that pick could be a HUGE pick for Utah. Imagine Utah grabbing Baylor’s Perry Jones, or North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes in the draft? (Note: I tried so hard to not say Utah is taking Jimmer Fredette from BYU. Couldn’t hold it.) The second pick is Golden State’s 2012 1st round pick. While I’m in the minority believing that pick won’t be a lottery pick, The Jazz will potentially have two of the top 20 picks in the 2012 draft.
No matter what happens now, Utah throw out their biggest chip, and got a great deal. The bigger question now is, does Utah move Al Jefferson? Paul Milsap? Only time will tell, but good job Utah. No 26 game losing streak in your sights.

The lake show2The problem is no one wants to come here ( utah where i live now) Players talk about it all the time when they come to play against the Jazz. They will be able to get someone but they will only come because Utah may offer themt he most money but they won’t wanna be here and as soon as they build up there stock they will wanna leave.
As far as the argument between franchises Utah is the better one as far as going to the playoffs and winning(on the court). The Knicks have one a title but that was before any one on here was born. But The Knicks are better as far as making money and thats because they are in New York.
The Nets possibly have a very bright future, they do have a nice present since Dwill is a great player and he’s a point guard which is very good since he has the ability to raise other players games. As far as the future , the Nets now can entice players to come join Dwill and Lopez and they have the move to brooklyn on there side. Time will tell if they are able to lure other players there but i have no doubt that the Russian owner will do his best to try and make that happen

CodySLCParticipantI live in Utah also. And yes thats always been a problem for Utah, free agency. We have always build threw the draft and trades.
But whats to say wont leave NJ like everyone was saying he was going to leave Utah. They have almost no supporting cast their. Maybe if they can snag another star or borderline star player he might stay. But otherwise i see him leaving beacuase now he goes to a much worse team than the Jazz.
