daggers818ParticipantBreaking news. One of the greatest ever quietly hangs it up. Much respect to Mr Duncan. He played the right way at a high level for nearly two decades and left a legacy in San Antonio.
Enjoy retirement, you’ve earned it!

ChoppyParticipantNo nonsense, no long drawn out retirement "tour", just a simple statement during off season. I’m sure the fanfare will come, whether he wants it or not, but he’s tried to retire with a minimum of fuss and disruption. One of the greatest to lace them up. Rest up big fundamental, what a career!

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantMaybe the best teammate and one of the most unselfish players ever. Was the centerpiece behind the most successful long- term run by a franchise in NBA history. The spurs never won less than 50 games ( save for lockout seasons) and were in contention every one of his 19 seasons. When he couldn’t be the go to guy and focal point of the offense anymore, he seamlessly transitioned into being the ultimate role player without any complaint. Aside from maybe Kareem or jordan, probably the most successful and consistent overall career from start to finish in NBA history.
Duncan was never the icon and never wanted the adulation or send off that Kobe got. You always knew when he did go out, this was how he was going to do it, almost like an afterthought. I have to admit I got chills watching that last game vs. okc in last year’s playoffs. When he waved to the crowd after the game on his way you could tell he was probably done.

HitsterParticipantI had assumed Tim was going to play on as he had passed the deadline for when he had to opt in for 2016/17 and I was wondering with Pau Gasol now in situ would Tim possibly come from the bench.
Tim has always been the ultimate class guy, no apparent ego, just let his success do the talking. As a Suns fan, his Spurs shattered our dreams many times in the play offs but I still appreciate what a great player Tim was.
I’m sure if he wants to remain in the game, he can, he’d be in huge demand for media work and probably has a job for life with the Spurs if he wants it. Lots of great players don’t make great coaches but I think Tim could be a huge success at that if he wanted to turn his hand to it. At worse I feel he could be a great mentor for young bigs.
Maybe he takes a break, spends time with his family and then decides what he wants to do.
Tim the greatest PF of all time but we all know you really played C we all salute you and thanks for the great memories.

OhCanada-ParticipantWhenever any of my friends, family, co-workers or employees accomplish anything and shows too much excitement or is too boasty I look at them and say "Hey, can you please pretend your Tim Duncan for a second, pretend you’ve been there!". Or something along those lines.
Truly is a great role model. Model of excellence, consistency and class. The league won’t be the same without him and the Spurs will miss him the most.

7. Tim Duncan
8. Lebron

Memphis MadnessParticipantMy TOP list is TOP 15.
I think I have most of the same guys you do. Last spot between somebody like John Stockton and Elgin Baylor.
I think Stockton is overlooked on a lot of the all-time lists. Had a RIDICULOUS number of assists and steals, played great defense, could shoot, and helped lead his team to back to back Finals.
I also like break it down now with the BIG MAN Mount Rushmore: Russell, Wilt, Kareem, and Duncan with apologies to Hakeem and Shaq.
Non-BIG MAN MOUNT RUSHMORE: Jordan, duh. Magic. Bird. LeBron.
Top 10 is hard to do. There is about a 4 or 5 way tie for the last couple of spots.
Top 15:
Jordan
Wilt
Bill Russell
Magic
Kareem
LeBron
Bird
Duncan
Kobe
Shaq
Oscar Robertson
Hakeem
Jerry West
That is 13 guys who should be on the top 10-15 list. Big O is 11 and I feel he should be on an ALL TIME SHORT LIST.
Last two spots: Malone toss up (Karl or Moses). Then Stockton. Or, Elgin Baylor. Kevin Garnett? For really old school: George Mikan. He WAS the league for a stretch there… Dr. J: Kept TWO pro basketball leagues in business.
You can have LeBron as high as 2 or as low as 8.
You can have Duncan somewhere between 7 (maybe even a bit higher) to about 10-12.
