Wolves have fired Head Coach/President Tom Thibodeau. Ryan Saunders will take over on an interim basis.

Bold and the Timberwolves part 2.

Thibs is fired after winning 2 straight games. The timing of this firing is a head scratcher. Oh well.

Hoiberg is reportedly a prime candidate for the job. How weird would it be if thibs got replaced by hoiberg twice?

It’s surprising to make this move now. It will be interesting to see if the Wolves improve after this.

A bit shocked. To think they just beat the Lakers. Wow! The timing is too weird. Now, Hoiberg is a prime candidate for the job. I don’t know if he can make the Wolves better than what Thibs did. Not a Hoiberg fan.

Clearly, Minnesota would be interested in Hoiberg because they know that he will be able to get Andrew Wiggins to play hard.

Might be the most predictable thing in the history of basketball — I don’t have anything against Thibs per say, but this was the wrong job for him, and they doubled down on the mistake by giving him the ability to trade away talented young players for his favorite Bulls.

The end result is the team has purged itself of valuable assets and pieces in a misguided and hard to follow strategy.

Thibs should be coaching college ball. The sensitivity of these primadonna NBA stars and management just does not mesh well with his coaching style.

One of the odd aspects of his exit in Chicago is that there was a campaign to spin it as Thibodeau driving his players crazy, but numerous players willingly followed him to Minnesota. Is it that players don’t mesh well with him, or is it Andrew Wiggins? Minnesota paid him to be a star. Thibodeau was there, and he has responsibility for it. In many ways, it is hard to feel bad for his firing because the Wiggins, and to a lesser extent the Gorgui Dieng extension, did him in. Thibodeau the GM did in Thobodeau the caoch. That said, what Wiggins is given versus what he was paid to be would kill any coach, regardless the personality or style. Maybe the light eventually goes off for him, but it doesn’t seems likely at the moment.

So leaves Popovich as the only Coach serving as GM/President. There have been very few that held both positions and were Successful!

Popovich is the coach and president of basketball operations. Buford is the GM. As far as what the difference is between general manager and president of basketball operations is, I’m not quite sure, but I’m sure popovich is the one who has the final say of pretty much all basketball decisions.

In this case thats the only difference. Pop gets final say. RC Buford does all the work.

I donno if thats true either. Didnt pop not wanna draft tony parker? Im sure pop signs off on most things, but ultimately you have to let people do their jobs.

Regardless, i wouldnt have a coach/gm combo nowadays. It creates a weird environment in the locker room i feel like. You want eveeyone on the same page, doing their respective jobs.

I agree, Thibs would be an amazing college coach. Id fire Mark Turgeon tomorrow for him

At this point of his career I dont think Pop does much of anything accept for as you stated signs off and lets people do their work. He sarcasticly said so in an interview.

Either way his situation is completely different than Thibs. Thibs signed there and demanded full control and was granted the position through negotiations. Pop won championships and has had decades of winning earning his final say. So its two completely different worlds.

Thibs had his in place because he had no trust with his former management. Popavich and Buford’s arrangement is built on their trust.

     Its definitely rare to see.

I dont think Thibs had trust from ownership and that’s really where it starts. Poor twolves. Bring in Chauncey and KG! Lol

The Gorgui Dieng & Wiggins extensions. Both have proved to be grave miscalculations, and unfortunately people in Thibs position are more strictly judged on failures than successes. That’s just the world we live in today.

Wiggins still has time, and maybe Ryan Saunders can coax more production out of him. But I wouldn’t go to Vegas with that prediction……..

Popps tends to leave a lot of the front office moves to Ric Burford so we often forget that Popps is still in overall command.

Thibs as coach alongside an experienced guy running the FO would have been ideal. Sadly Flip’s passing meant this never happened and Thibs moulded Chicago Mk II.

Thibs will still likely get job offers from teams as he is a highly regarded coach and could walk into a defensive co-ordinator role tomorrow with any number of teams. But he may wish to take some time out to consider options and we don’t know the terms of his severance package etc.

Billups has been mentioned for either role and would be a good choice, Ryan Saunders knows the team well and could get an extended run as interim coach if the T-Wolves decide to keep their options open until end of the season if they want to appoint some who is a top assistant or from the NCAA etc. Plus Ryan being Flip’s son could mean the owners feel so loyalty towards him so give him a chance.

He gets them back in the playoffs and this is how that muppet of an owner pays him back SMH

The T-wolves will regret firing Thibs as he had this team at least competiting…Especially if they Hire Hoiberg as the next head as that guy is to soft to be a head  coach,if that guy gets this job also shows how much of snake he is as the B*tch weasles his way into a job rather than earn it..First he spoke to bulls while Thibs still had his job there and if he didn’t again what a C*ck.

Personally I don’t think Saunders jr derserves it either as I believe when he has coached the T-wolves previously as I think they stunk also(I think he covered either Sam M or Flip for a bit)..

This team has bunch of players that lack drive to be great and seem like cry babies..Kat seems like he would be the kind of player that would cry to Glen Taylor if things aren’t going his way and seems soft like sharman(see Kobe quoate for what this means)…

I wouldn’t mind a Monty williams head coach he may get something out of Wiggins and KAT and Billups as GM may have player respect meaning that you may get more chance to get players in the building for at least an interview/talk..

The other question I had is this Wasn’t Thibs the President of Basketball Ops doesn’t that mean he can’t be fired by the CEO and the GM? I thought he could fire them not the other way around lol..
