Mr. JewboyParticipantThis team is not gonna be as good as the last one, and it definitely needs as much help as it can get. That’s why I don’t get why guys like Josh Smith, LaMarcus Aldrige and Brandon Roy aren’t on the team. Roys got injured late last season, so that may be the reason, but still..it’s your country and it needs you’re help
any idea why they aren’t on the team?
and what are other players that should also be on the team?0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/10/2010 - 7:31pm #372369
omphalosParticipantIt does seem like Josh Smith would fit the bill of a player who can guard multiple positions so its odd that he didn’t make the team. However, its entirely likely that he simply declined to focus on his off-season development.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantSmith has some similarities to Gerald Wallace and it was apparent that Wallace was a poor fit for the international game so perhaps Smith would’ve been in the same boat.
Roy is coming off surgery. Honestly as much as I love patriotism and all, these guys have mega contracts with NBA teams and they are an investment which many jobs depend upon, their priorities should lie with their NBA team over team USA.
I do think Aldridge would’ve been a good fit but there are other guys who can bring his skills to the table while providing better versatility and rebounding ability.

Tongue-Out-Like-23Participant“This team is not gonna be as good as the last one”
Not many teams are going to be as good as that one.

Mr. JewboyParticipantwell yeah and thats why you need as much help as you can get
and smith is much better than gerald wallace, he is longer, taller and more athletic.
everyone should try to help their country at least once- i mean every good player in the nba has played for the national team-
Iverson, duncan, mcgrady, carter, garnett, pierce, ray allen, J-kidd, Jermaine O’neal, shawn marion, finley, baron davis, gary payton and others, and every international player in the NBA helps their team until their 30’s
so why not endanger yourself for a month and come help your team?
brandon roy would have helped the team out a whole lot0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/11/2010 - 3:45am #372447

McDunkinI bet alot more people will want invites and to be apart of the National team
1.When/If Kobe,Lebron,D-Wade etc play again
or
2.When the olympics roll around

Cusemen727ParticipantI’m a little confused, correct me if im wrong, but this isnt the same team thats going to go to the Olympics, right? If thats the case, who cares how good this team is if the superstars of the league come back for the olympics.

dwat4444ParticipantCusemen77, Most of the world take the world championships a lot more seriously than the Olympics. Its like how the World Cup is10X larger than soccer at the olympics. We in the US dont feel that way, but we should. For the rest of the world, their opinion of the US is going to be based more on this team than the team in 2012. Winning the Olympics doesn’t matter as much as this despite what you would think, because to the rest of the teams this is more important.

His loyalty is, and should be, to the organization that just gave him $84 million. He isn’t healthy. It is no different from Yao or Kobe sitting out.

sheltwon3ParticipantRoy will not help anyone if he is not fully recovered and there are plenty of guys that can play for US so unless you are fully healthy, you should not try to play but it would be cool if they did. Howard is not even playing and isnt he healthy. I think it is good to see what these younger guys can do because the top players from the pass team USA is not going to play forever and this team is not that bad. Durant should make up for a lot of mistakes with his shooting plus Curry can shoot as well. The last team USA had great players but only a few great shooters and International ball requires great shooters. Aldridge would have been a good pick up because he is a shooting big man.

IknoBall12Participantthis isnt the olympics this is just the fiba tournament. yesits big but its not as big as the olympics. trust me in 4 yrs wade and paul and the stars will be coming back. theres too much at stake for them not too. think about this:
its the biggest stage and everyone will be watching. which means guys will want to get on tv. this could boost both their image and brands if they have one.0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/11/2010 - 2:11pm #373032
