NBATalk20098Participantu think D’antoni can turn him to be a another steve nash
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 11:12am #258589
sheltwon3Participanthmm good question and well he may not be on Steve Nash level, I think D antoni can get him to be a steady playmaker and shot maker for the Knicks. This move was a very underated one.

JNixonParticipantNot until he learns to shoot the ball or finish as well as Nash does every year he won’t be a Steve Nash. He could be a decent level starter for them, but he won’t be the scorer that Nash is. He’ll probably have good assist numbers though.

fastdanParticipantNash was a very good point guard in Dallas and a great shooter, D’antoni’s tempo just highlighted that. Sergio is no where near the pg Nash was when he went to the suns.

quinceyhodgesno where near nash is a understatement

knicks82ParticipantHow do we know what Rodriguez’s potential could be? The guy has never gotten consistent playing time. Hes averaging 6pts and 3ast in very limited mins with the Kings. Hell give the guy 35-40 mins a game for the rest of the season and then we can make comparisons.

quinceyhodgesi find it funny that no knicks fan ever talked about this guy before but now that hes a knick out comes all these comparisions and how he didnt get a fair shot and how good he can be. but now that hes a knick he could possibly be this or that and the future

fastdanParticipantGotta love knick fans..

quinceyhodgeswhat has this guy to warrent such comparisions is what i wonder though. this is his fourth year and third team. he could unseat blake in portland or anyone else. he couldnt unseat ulrich out in sac town and he’s never shown that he is capable of being a starting pg so im wondering where this is coming from. its not like someone like bayless who has shown in games what he is capable of in only year 2. nopt saying he cant become better because no one knows the future but when someone gets comparisions it is usually brought on by something the player has done on a consitant bases
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 1:53pm #258670
knicks82ParticipantBeno Udrih got a nice contract to play for Sacto thats why Rodriguez didnt get big minutes, plus adding Evans didnt help him either. But he was still good enough to get some time. I dont think anyone was comparing him to Nash, just that thinking that maybe Dantoni could get him to put up Nash type numbers (Which is unlikely).
And why would we talk about a guy that doesnt play for the knicks Quincey? The thing is Duhon sucks big time, and Rodriguez is an improvement without a doubt.0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 1:59pm #258673
IndianaBasketballParticipantI think Sergio will be more like a Jason Williams, not Steve Nash.
He hasn’t had much success in Portland or Sacramento, but if he’s going to have success in any offense… It’s D’Antoni’s. He’ll be good at handling the ball, pushing the tempo and passing… I want to see if he can make shots on a consistent basis though.

joecheck88Participanti think its funny that a guy who has never played people still have hope for him. im not saying he cant be a good point guard for this team but steve nash? in my memory i dont remember anyone that came into the league and turned into an absolute star after riding the bench for a few years. i have seen guys be productive but never a star. maybe michael redd but even he was behind ray allen. rodriguez has been behind steve blake and beno udrih and couldnt get time.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 2:00pm #258675
quinceyhodgeseven when he got minutes he wasnt spectacular and he doesnt get minutes for a reason. the fact is hes a back up as well as duhon. he hasnt shown anything that would suggest that hes better then duhon. my point about the guy not being talked about is if the knicks fans thought he was really that good he would have been talked about awhile ago. i see plenty of knick fans on here talk about guys who dont play for the knicks. some of which have been guys who dont even start. what has this guy shown to suggest that hes even better then duhon?..the only thing people say his his stats in limited minutes but there are plenty of guys who have comparable stats in garbage minutes playing against the 3rd string players

IndianaBasketballParticipantJermaine O’Neal…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 2:03pm #258679
LeroyJenkinsParticipanti agree with the jason williams comparison. thats exactly who i thought he would be like when he got drafted to the suns..but then he got traded to portland…and then i remembered how bad he was on d and knew that would limit his time there.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 2:04pm #258680
IndianaBasketballParticipantHe doesn’t have to be a better player than Duhon to be a better fit for D’Antoni’s offense.
Both players are probably better served as backups, but he’s a better ball handler and passer than Duhon, which already makes him a better fit for the offense.

quinceyhodges^lol..yeah that defense is something awful

knicksfan7ParticipantI have not watched much of Sergio Rodriguez, so I have no clue, but if anyone can answer these questions for me about him that would be helpful.
Is he faster than Chris Duhon?
Is he more athletic than Chris Duhon?
Is he more durable than Chris Duhon
If yes to at least 2 of the questions then I think the Knicks could be a more productive team with Rodriguez at the point guard position. I only see Rodriguez as a short term solution. I think the Knicks will draft a point guard with a 2nd round pick, and if they pull off the amazing (signing Wade and Lebron) then Sergio would be a very serviceable back-up.0- Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 2:40pm #258694
knicks82ParticipantIve seen this guy play quite a bit and having watched Duhon playin every game for Knicks for the past 2 seasons thats how I know hes better than Duhon. Yeah Duhon has a ok assist avg, but thats all he does! He cant shoot the damn ball for all but probly 8 games Duhon has been atrocious from the field. Even if Rodriguez doesnt shoot that well its still better than Du…trust me.

quinceyhodgeshe’s definatly not as skilled as duhon. as of now hes a career 2nd string at best pg which is pretty much what duhon is except duhon can play the starter role from time to time. ya’ll knicks fans are entertaining i must admit. when ya’ll dont like a player thn thats it fro them. ya’ll will think hes worst then manute bol on offense. ya’ll are extremeley tough on players..lol and draft picks. i think knick fans might be the most impatient fans in the nba. actually it might be ny fans period because baseball fans do the same thing with the yankees
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 3:42pm #258739
joecheck88Participantthanks tezo i forgot about j oneal and even he was behind sheed and some other good vets. im just saying i dont think he will be spectacular or an all star. im saying he could be a good pg. good players always end up playing even as rookies with a few exceptions. but even those exceptions the guys were usually behind all star guys. and to back up quincey and im not pointing out any one person in particular but alot of knicks fans were hoping they could get jerryd bayless or anthony randolph but i dont remember talk of rodriguez. yes u guys got a good player but he is best served as a backup or a starter next to a ball dominant player like a lebron b roy or maybe even tmac
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 3:45pm #258741
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think NY might bring him back next season…he could be a 10 point, 10assist type player if D’Antoni lets him play PG as a starter
Also, he MUST learn how to shoot.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:01pm #258762
quinceyhodgeslol..10ast???..riiiiight he’s never shown anything and i mean ANYTHING that would suggest he can be a 10ast player…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:12pm #258777
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantNeither did Duhon….he averaged I believe 9 assists?
Rodriguez never really got a shot…give him a chance.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:14pm #258781
quinceyhodgesyou would be believing wrong wrong then. i cant believe this is really qhaynes because he would know better then this
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:16pm #258784
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantHey man, how many times have we seen players come off the bench or go to a new team and really do better?
Maybe 10 is a little drastic. Maybe 8 assists.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:18pm #258787
quinceyhodgesand how many more times have we seen players who have played for 2 different teams and not do much go to there third team and still not do much?
he sure is killing it so far isnt he?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:19pm #258788
Mr.Knick 32Participanthe played 9 min….what’s the matter with you?
If he comes back next season- I expect him to some good things in a NY jersey
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:21pm #258792
quinceyhodgeshes doing exactly what hes been doing for the past 3 years which is what i expect. hes not better then duhon and i forgot house is there. hell house will get more time at the pg then he will
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 4:24pm #258797
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantAlright man
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 6:54pm #258910
NBATalk20098ParticipantSergio Rodriguez is way better then Chris Duhon
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:05pm #258911
quinceyhodgesafter one game in which he had 5pts nd 6 ast in a overtime game while helping give up 31 to westbrook showed hes a way better player??…lol man some knicks fans have there sites pretty low. in either case hes easily the worst overall staring pg( if he ends up starting) in the east. his defense is worst to duhons clearly
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:11pm #258912
NBATalk20098Participantwhy u hating on Sergio Rodriguez ?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:21pm #258913
quinceyhodgeshating would be if i didnt say things that are tru. hes a career 3-5 ppg player 2-3 ast for the past 3 and a half season. if anything im being the most realistic compared to gusy saying he could be like nash and average 10ast a game.. going by his past which would you say seems more accurately?..not conting guess work or what someone THINKS he can do. exactly. seems like theres alot more riding then hating dont you think?..it would be a different story if he had a bunch of games where he showed what he could be capable of like j.bayless has done out in portland

quinceyhodgesso what have i said that isnt true?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:33pm #258919
OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantJust give it up, man. There’s no point in arguing with Quincey. He doesn’t change his mind for anyone. It’s like throwing a ball off of a wall and expecting it to turn into a Playboy bunny.
Anyways, Sergio Rodriguez is a great fit for the Knicks. He’s a liability on defense, but defense isn’t a very high priority in D’Antoni coached teams. You can disagree with me on that one, but it’s true, and I really don’t understand why they’re so lax on defense. Don’t you need turnovers and rebounds to get into the open court? Duhon is more than likely gonna get benched soon, and Sergio is gonna have a chance to prove himself, albeit in D’Antoni’s “anything goes, just shoot the damn ball” offense.

quinceyhodgesi change my mind when the player proves me wrong.. case in point demarcus cousins. unliek some i dont just jump on a bandwagon before a palyer proves his worth. does that make sense to jump on a bandwagon be fore someone proves there self???..exactly… as far as defense not being very high im lost because one minute everyone on here is talking about how d’antoi has changed his style and that the knicks now play defense and the next they dont when someone is trying to prove a point. at anyrate why would anyone be happy about a guard who cant play defense on a team that isnt that good?..seems kinda backwards to me
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:36pm #258922
quinceyhodgeswhat happen to the days where a player had to prove his worth before jumping on there bandwagon
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 8:01pm #258925
scoutguruParticipantyea i agree with quincy. Lets wait and see how things turn out. Don’t know if he’ll be a two-timer…but can be solid pg in Dantoni’s system. Lets not jump on bandwagons like the Favors kid. No way should he be taken ahead of Demarcus Cousins or even Patterson. This guy needs a lot of work. Why not just stay in school, and be the featured guy and constantly work on your skills instead of sitting on the pine and being a freaking d league send down candidate…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 8:10pm #258927
quinceyhodgesits no use people on here love jumping on bandwagons wayyyy before some one proves a thing. wait untill this summer or after the mcdonalds games its gonna really gt crazy on here. i cant agree with you about patterson over favors though even though i like patterson more. favors has pretty good potential that you have to take a chance on him

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantI would’ve never thought a Sergio Rodriguez thread would get this much posts.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/20/2010 - 9:04pm #258945
knicks82ParticipantI gotta know Quincey..have you ever watched a Knicks game? Cause if you did you wouldnt have any positive things to say about Duhon. Why do you think he didnt play the 4th qtr and ot tonight? Cause hes a bum..thats why. And I want to know another thing..why do you post on these Knicks topics? Clearly you are a hater.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/21/2010 - 8:00am #259012
rtbtParticipantIf you simply checked the box score from last night’s game, you wouldn’t be impressed with his stats. However, if you actually watched the game, you couldn’t miss the positive impact Sergio Rodriguez had on the Knick’s on offense. Unlike Duhon who’s more suited to a set offense, Rodriguez is built to play in a fast paced, high motion offense. He demonstrated that last night as he repeatedly drove to the basket and broke down the defense, something Duhon rarely does.
When the big men came over from the weak side to help on Rodriguez, he would always hit a wide open teammate. Unfortunately the Knicks missed several wide open shots or else he would have had a few more assists.
Yes it was only one game but you can tell by his style that Rodriguez is a serious upgrade over Duhon.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/21/2010 - 8:06am #259013
quinceyhodgesi never said duhon was great either.. both of them are career backup pg..and thats real. either one would rank last out of all the starting pg in the east and in crunch time i did notice eddie house was in the game over both. matter of fact i wouldnt be suprised to see him running the point more then both of them since his a better scorer and like ya;ll said thats what the coach likes. how about we wait a couple games before saying hes a great fit. dont ya’ll think that makes more sense then saying in one game hes a great fit. if we are going by one game then does that also mean he will only get the same minutes he got this game and put up the same mediocre stats?..cu if you gonna pick one game to say he’s this and that then you have to stick with everything he did from the one game not just the parts you like
