Dario Saric may stay in Croatia
    Updated: June 6, 2013, 2:37 PM ET
    By Chad Ford | ESPN.com

Croatian forward Dario Saric is leaning toward withdrawing from the 2013 NBA draft, league sources told ESPN.com.

Saric has until June 17 to make a final decision.

Saric is ranked No. 11 by ESPN.com and was projected as a lottery pick. The New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks had all shown significant interest in Saric.

Pelicans general manager Dell Demps was actually in Croatia earlier this week to scout him in person.

Sources say that Saric, who plays for the Croatian team Cibona, understands his lofty draft position but wants to stay in Europe one more year to hone his skills. He’s enjoying his time in Croatia and feels he’s not quite ready for the NBA.

The 19-year-old Saric had a rocky start to the season before coming on strong in the Croatian playoffs, averaging 15.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in the playoffs and winning the MVP award for the Croatian finals.

Sounds like he didn’t get the lotto promise he was looking for. It’s funny, cause unless he absolutely dominates workouts, international competition, and league competition, there’s even less of a chance he gets picked in the lottery next year. Financially, he’d be better off going in this year. But hey, it’s probably a good thing he takes the time to develop his game. I wonder why he won’t stay in the draft and just be a draft and stash prospect though? That way, he’d have a pro team to go to when he decides to come over, and he’d be able to stay in Europe to develop like he wants to.

I agree with your opinions on that he should stay in the draft and if he wants to stay in europe to work on his game playing big minutes. I think he is an absolutely top talent and people shouldn’t sleep on him. He is one of the most ready international prospects you could have in a while and already better than Vesely is now while beeing very young. Maybe he has promises from teams he don’t really like and doesn’t want to be taken by then.

If he can play… and it looks like he can, he will be drafted and paid like an NBA player unless he has another one of the “double secret buyouts” that keep players in europe longer than what a lottery/struggling team can wait.

    report——

Dario Saric said he would “try to stay” in Croatia even if he’s drafted in the first round of June’s NBA draft.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Saric replied when asked if he planned to return to his team next season. Saric then confirmed it would be to work on his game, and the 19-year-old admitted that he’s not 100 percent certain he’ll remain in the NBA draft. “I don’t know. In this moment maybe my name will be put out (withdrawn) in this draft. I must talk to my agent and make a decision.” When asked why he’d pull out, Saric said, “I might not be ready at this moment.”

He could very well still be drafted as a late lotto pick

    report—-

According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, the Mavericks believe Dario Saric “could be a star someday.”
The Mavs invest as much as anyone in international scouting. Ford suggests that a year or two of mentoring from German import Dirk Nowitzki could help bring the Croation Saric along quicker. For now, however, Saric looks like a raw prospect because he’s 19 and has really struggled to shoot the ball in Europe. Barring a surprise at the Draft Lottery, the Mavs will pick 13th in the draft.

You guys think he is trying to scare some teams off. Some of these guys only want to go to certain markets
