I made a topic yesterday about Derrick Rose not being the best PG in the game until he polishes up some key part of his PG arsenal..I thought everyone agreed that he was next in line to be the best PG in the future given his already elite physical tools. But alot of guys brought up his draftmate Russell Westbrook, who is a physically gifted player as well (if he’s indeed a PG). I thought the Thunder should’ve taken Bayless or Gordon in the 08 draft, because I felt they were much more proven and were already ready to be quality 2nd options. I thought Westbrook was a work in progress, and electric athlete without a position. He proved to be a better passer and a much better ball-handler than I thought, so he was a better PG prospect than I imagined, especially since it was his 1st season. He wasn’t the crazily raw player I thought he was either. But he is the overall work in progress I thought he was (which is a scary thought since he was good last year). He isnt quite a real PG yet, and he doesnt have much range on his shot. He cant even really be considered a threat shooting from mid-range distances yet. He’s reckless and he plays 100 mph for better or worse, which is why he committed the most TO’s last season out of all the players in basketball. He is just so explosive though, that he cant get away with it alot of times, even in the NBA. Right now his greatest attribute is his D. He has the ability to be the best defensive PG in the NBA, him and Rondo.

I think he has all-star potential. Maybe more. If he does what him, Derrick Rose and (when he’s drafted) John Wall need to do and :

    A.) Improves his shot
B.) Makes teammates better in plays other than exclusively fast breaks and drive and dish situations
C.) Play more focused on D.

I personally don’t see it happening with Rose, CP3, and eventually John Wall, but do you think Westbrook could be the best PG in the NBA in the future?

Well, his weaknesses are things he can fix and since he has that Defensive mindset then he has a better chance then John Wall and Rose to take over Paul’s seat, but I don’t think he ever will….He’ll be a Top 5 Point Guard behind Paul and Williams and Rose…Now I’d take him over Rose, but since Rose is already the Leader for the Bulls he’ll get more love and score me because Westbrook will always be second behind Durant in OKC. I am not as High on John Wall as others.
I think Westbrook will improve his Mid Range Jumper and be deadly from it sooner then later and as for Turnovers I think he’ll get 2-3 for the rest of his career, just the type of Player he is.

    Yes.

He can because he has the Defense already there. He can be a solid 17-19ppg and 7-9 apg guy. He can be the best PG to some people I dont think he will be a ” no brainer” to experts but to some fans, he maybe a better option then Rose and Williams (who you forgot!)

also- Wall already? Come on man…

Nah, I think the other 3 (including Wall) are in a whole other world, plus Westbrook will never be “the guy” on his squad, he will always live in the shadow of Durant.

I wouldn’t put Westbrook ahead of either Paul or Dwill and as I always say, Rose is the future best pg in the league imo. SO westbrook could potentially crack the top 5 but I doubt it.

John Wall does have the ability to be a top PG in the NBA, I dont know if anyone is questioning that anymore. He has the same elite tools Westbrook and Rose have.

You don’t think Westbrook can ever be Top 5 Point Guard? I know there are plenty of others deserving, but the Top 3 to me now is D-Will, CP3, and TP…Leaving Two Spots open for him and Rose. I seriously think it’s ridiculous to put Wall in their class. I hate Jennings, but I think he can rise above and become a Great and Elite PG.

well i think Rose is the better scorer and playmaker and thats huge if you want to the best point guard in the league and Rose is better than him at both which is why i think Rose has a better chance.

Brandon Jennings has the ability to be a top PG, I think he has a chance because he has the passing skills and PG ability that the guys we’ve mentioned dont have.

I didn’t say he could never be top 5. I said he could potentially crack it, but I doubt it. It will be close. But I don’t see him beating out Rose CP3 or DWill and I slo think there will always be some pg’s just ahead of him like Parker, Billups, nash, Harris, Arenas, plus whoever else grows from now and then. But still, saying he could never be top 5 and saying he can crack top 5 are two very different things.

westbrook is one of those people that would be great in any sport becuz of his god given tools he is a big point with his wingspand and all he has a crazy work ethic thats why he was taken so high in the draft
my blazers was gone to draft him u all kno how that went
but next year should be a big one for him with his learning curve he is scorer a shoot first point that can lock 1’s and 2’s
and the extra short 3’s out there he’ll be crazy good you heard it here first but he wont be be an all star in the west untill cp3 ,deron or tp move out the west in the east he would of made it his first year lol

even though durant doesn’t miss alot of threes, westbrook will eat up long rebounds, and he has a ridiculous vert and motor, give him 1-2 years and he will average most rebounds among pg’s, very underrated stat in my opinion

Westbrook has the Raw skills to be better than all of them but he is not yet a true point. If he can develop late like Billups than I may have look at him as being the top but the thing is Rose is a leader so he would have to get his leadership skills up and playmaking and not just making a pass but controlling the pace of the game too.

what the hell is wrong with you people. your putting john wall at one of the top 5 PGs in the league and he has not even played against any high level of competition yet! he hasnt even played COLLEGE ball yet and you already think he is one of the best PGs. Same goes with Jennings even though he has played againest better players. He has not played a single NBA game yet and you think he could be up there. if derrick rose would have not have a fabulous year nobody would be talking about these guys. LET THEM PLAY IN THE NBA FIRST before you act like they are the best. my goodness!

btw i also love westbrook. the kid is amazing and will be top 5 in the league. he will get a lot of exposure since he will be on one of the best teams in 4 or 5 years and when your on a great team it makes you a great player.

Top 5 Pgs for the future

Cp3,D-Will,Rose,Harris,Jennings,n Tyreke .Until I see Wall in Kentucky I’m not puttin him up there yet and I believe he can though become a future top pg especially with his quickness and athleticism. If he doesn’t do good at Kentucky. As for Westbrook love his game but him being better than Rose now happening.

Not happening I mean Rose is a natural pg compared to Westbrook.

Hes not a better player than Rose but what does that even mean…Rose is insanely good, the best PG prospect I’ve ever seen, and I never thought I’d say that after Dwilliams and CP3….The comparisons are fun to make but lets just be happy we are in the Golden Age of PGs and can enjoy watching these two future superstars as they develop together

I refuse to call Tyreke Evans a PG..he’s big, and he can run the point in spurts. But asking Tyreke Evans to run a team at the NBA level is asking for a bad year. He shows no PG skills at all, he just needs the ball all the time (like a PG) to be effective. Doesnt make him a PG.

He will be a PG I can see it he has the vision and handles the rock perfectly Kings will let him develop into to 1 with the scorers he has around him.
